As a new user of Photoshop I needed a manual. This book is probably very good for those who know the product. It is based on the software and then describes all the tools, controls etc. in great detail. I would have preferred to have started with a photograph and then seen what I could have done with it (if you see what I mean). Anyway I shall keep at it. However, there are some very annoying features, I accept that Americans cannot spell colour, split their infinitives and talk about "dudes" but I cannot accept "'em" rather than "them", "talkin'" rather than "talking" and so on. It is very distracting and I hope future editions will correct this.

If you have a basic understanding of photoshop, but want to do more with Adobe's masterpiece, this is the book to get you up and running. It works if you are new to photoshop too, but might be a wee bit heavy going to start with, but stick with it, you'll find that it's the only book you'll need.
The book covers both Mac and PC users, although I think it leans more towards the Mac, which is fine for me as that's what I use, but whatever you sit in front of, this is the book to get.

Let's face it, there's no one book that is going to teach you everything about Photoshop but if you're looking for a one volume overview of just what this software is capable of, this would be an excellent choice.
Clearly written, well illustrated, just the right combination of techno-geeky stuff, and artistry.
On its own, it's not going to turn you into a Photoshop ninja - you still need tons of practice - but this will definitely got you off on the right foot.

This is a very good book but the author's style does grate a bit after a while. She has done a find and replace on the word 'them' to replace it with 'em' throughout the whole book in an attempt to sound cool. Get rid of the poor attempt at a chummy narrative and this would be getting five stars.
