Simulate Natural Sunrise
Inspired by nature's sunrise, light gradually increases before your wake time from soft morning red through orange, until your room is filled with bright yellow light. The process of changing and increasing light is designed to stimulate your body to wake up naturally, as light gently prepares your body for waking up while you are still asleep. By the time light has filled the room, your selected natural sound or radio station completes the wake up experience, leaving you ready for your day.
With RelaxBreath for Sleep
Inspired by well-known breathing and relaxation exercises our light-guided wind-down function is designed to help get you to sleep by helping you decompress from the day’s activities and unwind. Follow one of seven rhythms of light intensity or sound with your breathing while keeping your eyes closed for a calm and peaceful transition from your day to your dreams.
Sunset Simulation to Sleep
The sunset simulation programme prepares your body to sleep by gradually decreasing light and optional sound to your set duration, gently helping you to relax before you fall asleep.
Multiple Sound and Music Options
Wake up to nature sounds, ambient music or your favourite local FM radio station. At your set wake up time your selected sound will start to play softly, and gradually increase in volume to your pre-set level within a few minutes. The transition from sleep to waking is gentle, but intended to eventually get you fully awake. Connect your mobile device or tablet to the AUX port to turn the light into a speaker.
Multiple Brightness Settings
Sensitivity to light differs from person to person - a brightness level that could instantly wake you might not budge someone else. Multiple light settings let you choose which intensity level is just right for you. In general, when the brightness is set to a higher light intensity a person needs less time to become fully awake. When you aren't going to sleep or waking, the wake up light is becomes an adjustable bedside or reading light.
Midnight and Reading Light
The ideal lux level lets you read comfortably before sleeping. When using RelaxBreath or the sunset simulation, the auto shut-off will turn the light off after a set timeframe. While you are sleeping, the illuminated clock completely dims to darken your room. When turned on the middle of the night, it provides just enough light to find your way in the dark, letting you get in and out of bed without a jarring brightness to your senses. Easily set personalised controls for your light intensity and alarm scheduler.

I've left it on the 30 minute dawn and this seems perfect. It really does wake me gently.
The alarm noises aren't great but I've chosen some deep bells and it's not unpleasant.
Snoozing requires tapping the top of the light so this feel natural (and not fiddly).
I've also been using the sunset feature. Although I've never struggled to get to sleep, it's very calming and I think I get to sleep within about 15 minutes.
When used as a lamp, it's pretty bright. I use this in the morning. My one annoyance is that it's 3 taps to turn it off again.
Overall, the build quality and design is good. It's easy to set up and looks pretty cool. It doesn't omit any annoying noises and I've got it set up so the time isn't lit at night (I like a dark room).
It was £110 when I got it (ouch) after reading all the reviews for similar products. I'm glad I bought it. It's cut my snoozing down by half.
It could be improved by having different alarms per day / weekends etc. but I knew it didn't have this when I got it. I leave it set for the weekend now too.
The radio quality is really good and the fade in with the alarm makes it less jarring.
The overall design is modern and slick, I’m really pleased I decided to try this instead of another lumie, which are always so unnecessarily complicated to use. Highly recommend.
And let's be quite clear - this is NOT worth the full price & barely the Amazon price!
The menus do seem simple to use, but I felt left with the feeling "did I do that right?" Having the menus without any buttons, can create confusion. Some of the options are too restrictive, in that you can only have the fall asleep mode for 15 minutes, that's way too short for me. The quality of sound is average to poor depending on what you're listening to, the radio seems better than the built in digital sounds, I have a tiny, cheap BT speaker that sounds better than this, there is also a slight vibration when on very loud, this shouldn't happen. On a design point, other colours would be nice, as white isn't suitable for everyone's home, me included.
However, the worst & most surprising point for me is the extraordinarily high EMF given off by the Somneo. Philips know low EMF products are a good thing, remember my M8 phone, one of it's selling points is it's low radiation emissions. I have a very reliable EMF detector, a high reading, near a plug or light switch will give off 200-300 V/m, which would not be good to put your head next to on a regular basis. The reading coming from the Somneo was over 600 V/m, which to have your head next to regularly, say next to your bed, is at best inadvisable, at worst dangerous!! I unplugged mine immediately & will most likely return it - shame!
My advice therefore, if you insist on purchasing a Somneo, for a genuinely good nights sleep, DON'T put it right next to you on your bedside table.
