I recommend these 5 times, as that is how many of the less sturdy pairs I would have bought in the same timeframe! I bought some for my girlfriend and 2 pairs for me, and they all still work, even after they accidentally went through the washing machine!
There are comments about the noise which is caused by the cord, this is easily avoided if you take the wire over the back of your ear then put them into your ear canal.
1. you'll get robbed by an idiot. maybe
2. you'll be an idiot
3. you'd essentially be paying for an equaliser
4. these sound better
5. die iphone. with your crappy headphones. and then having the cheek, the cheek to release that advert about how theyre changing the shape of their headphone. well done guys, you're 10 years too late to the party, everyone has gone to the nosie-cancellation party, or the in-ear gummy headphone rave.
and they look dead smart too.im not northern
The sound quality is very respectable. The EQ is fairly standard, no glaringly loud bass or treble frequency boosts - I mostly listen to Rock, Metal, Audiobooks and Orchestral and I get a good response from all of them.
The cord is simply divine. Doesn't tangle, is very durable (On my 2nd pair, last pair I purchased in 2011 and the died just after Christmas, replaced with some JVC headphones but they broke very quickly) and the rubber surrounding the bass of the ear-piece helps prevent damage.
Some complaints have been aimed at the braided cord generating noise whilst rustling against clothing and I can't say I heard much if anything. Sure, it's there but whilst listening to the aforementioned genres I couldn't hear anything whilst walking or jogging. Perhaps if you were listening to sparser tracks at a lower volume it'd be more noticeable but I had no problem.
The build quality for the ear-pieces is fairly standard. The only metal is around the jack which is very tough but I can't say the same for the ear-pieces, they certainly feel like a pair of £10 headphones whilst the rest of the construction and materials feel like something much more expensive.
The Philip O'Neill headphones are built to last without sacrificing sound quality in any doubt. They perform especially well wilh EDM and heavy rock music genres, nailing the bass drops, sub bass, synths ,guitar riffs, death growls, ect you get the idea. The highs and mids on these are not over the top in any way, this is also to be said of those low frequency, spine tingling but not distorted, or overpowering. This can be expected from a frequency respone of 6hz to 23.5khz. The result is a very balanced sound that is fit for a wide range of music tastes and is friendly on the ears (be kind to your ears, because tinnitus is not cool). These are nearly noise isolating, due to the semi open type, something I have never come across with headphones.
Of course the main reason why I brought these was the durability and robustness, these are all proved by the threaded cable, thus is much more longer lasting and environmentally friendly than standard plastic. They may rub and make some noise against clothes, but it is hardly noticeable in my opinion and something I am not hypersensitive about. I think that if these headphones were to have a L connection instead of an I (straight shape) they would be even more enduring, however adapters are available.
Finally the ear buds have three different colours but only two sizes medium and large, this wasn't a problem for me but for smaller eared users, better get some in advance. The shape of the ear tips are slightly longer and the holes are narrower, which rids the nozzle dampners (metal mesh) from any wax, but doesn't compromise sound quality in any way. These ear phones fit nice and snug into ears and can be worn upside down, over the ear and normally.

It is clear that Philips have really put some thought into headphones by teaming up with O'Neill, I hope they continue this series. I would highly recommend them to anybody desperate for longer lasting headphones.
If you are sitting still and listening to music they would be ok but in this situation I would use over ear headphones.
