Why doesn't the shaver work when I press the on/off button?
If you already tried recharging your Philips shaver, please try the following:
1.This shaver is designed to be used with emulsion, foam or gel or in the shower. For safety reasons, this shaver does not work when it is connected to a power outlet because electricity and water are a hazardous combination. The only thing the shaver does when it is connected to a power outlet is charge the integrated battery. It charges through an adapter that converts the voltage from the outlet to a safe low voltage. Nevertheless, we urge you to keep the shaver and the adapter away from water during charging. The adapter is not waterproof.
2.Some shavers have a 'travel lock' function. This travel lock may be activated. Press the on/off button for 3 - 5 seconds to deactivate the travel lock.
3.The shaving unit may be soiled or damaged to such an extent that the motor cannot run. Clean the shaving unit thoroughly or replace it.
4.The display of some shavers shows the exclamation mark, the replacement reminder and the cleaning reminder at the same time when the shaving heads are jammed. If this happens, clean the shaving unit thoroughly or replace it. (Specific models only)
5.You may not have reassembled the shaving unit properly after extra-thorough cleaning.

What makes a top-class razor?
Designed to naturally follow your facial hair, Philips shavers use a rotary system with independently rotating shaving heads. Moving the shaver in a circular motion helps you to capture those hairs that grow in different directions, even in hard to reach places, for optimal shaving results. The flexible heads adapt to complex facial contours providing a clean, comfortable and close shave.
10 Times Less Nicks and Cuts than Regular Blade*
Protect your skin from nicks and cuts with Philips Series 5000 shaver. The MultiPrecision blades glide across your face giving you a smooth, close shave whilst reducing the number of nicks and cuts vs. regular razor blades*. The powerful quick charging battery offers 45 minutes of shaving time or if in a rush a 5 minute quick charge will give one full shave.
To complete your shaving experience, the Series 5000 comes with precision trimmer to help you always look your best.
*Test done in Germany 2015, after 21 days acclimation.
MultiPrecision Blade System
MultiPrecision blades are specifically designed to give you a close shave whilst protecting your skin. The dual-blade Super Lift and Cut system uses two blades to give a close shave whilst still offering optimal skin comfort. The first blade lifts each hair shaft away from the skin while the second blade cuts the hair shaft at skin level, guaranteeing a close smooth shave.
5-Directional DynamicFlex Heads
5-directional DynamicFlex heads follow every curve of your face and neck to give you an easy, comfortable shave even in tough to reach areas.
Aquatec Wet and Dry
Shave your way. With the 100% waterproof Aquatec Wet and Dry seal, you can opt for a quick yet comfortable dry shave. Or you can shave wet with gel or foam or even under the shower.
45 Minutes of Cordless Shaving
With a powerful, energy efficient and long-lasting lithium-ion battery, you can get 45 minutes of cordless shaving time from a one hour charge. That’s about 15 shaves! Or if in a rush, a 5 minute quick charge will give one full shave. Shaver is supplied with a UK 2-pin bathroom plug. For use with a 3-pin mains plug, a separate adaptor will need to be purchased.
Perfect your Look
Complete your shaving experience with the SmartClick precision trimmer - ideal for shaping your moustache and sideburns.

Over the last few months the shaver head has increasingly started to fall off when shaving. It is now at the stage where it is coming off 5 or more times when shaving. The problem seems to occur when the angle of flex increases when shaving between the neck and lower jaw. I consider it unreasonable to have to replace the shaver after only 9 months when the fixed head shavers lasted at least 5 years, being replaced only because it was not much more expensive to replace the shaver than to buy a new set of heads.
Update: 5th June 2017. I have contacted Philips Support through Amazon and a replacement is being sent. The support by Philips is excellent and the support from Amazon, as usual, is excellent.
Good but not to my father's liking.
I see no major advance over my last shaver and yet the price has increased dramatically. Admittedly, that was top of the range and came with the automatic cleaning gizmo, but such a shaver would now cost me a couple of hundred quid and I'm not prepared to pay that. In every other sphere that I know, the cost of consumer electronics goes down, yet shaver prices increase without giving anything extra. So my review is coloured by that, but I'm happy to pay extra if it's worth it but this isn't just about price.
My last few shavers have had an integral clipper, ideal for getting at errant hairs above the shave line, under the nose, wherever they grow. Which, at my age seems to be everywhere. This model has no such clipper but instead comes with a trimmer attachment. Now that's intended to trim beards, which is a fashion thing, and I have one but I don't just want to trim my beard but tidy around the edges and a beard trimmer isn't fine enough for that. The attachment is pretty useless anyway as it doesn't have a plastic guide like my other one does thus allowing me to trim to a specific length. This one is just a whizzing blade and you'd have to be pretty acomplished to use it for an overall trim.
The power button has moved to a less natural place. At least it is for me. Whether that is seen by Philips as an ergonomic triumph or just an oversight when buying cheap components I don't know but it is annoying! [Afternote: forgot to say that this is the first shaver I bought that didn't come with a little brush. You might be thinking "OK, so you're supposed to wash it under the tap", but if you like to clean it properly you'll find that can leave a residue of gunk which brushing doesn't. So I had to buy one except they omly come in threes or more it seems and have to be shipped across the world, begging the question "why not include one?!"
Well done Philips. After all these years I think I might go back to razor blades!
