It came in a box, complete with a black carry bag to store when not in use - a nice touch. Along with a charging cable (3-pin plug) came a paper leaflet with care instructions. It was very easy to set up, and even though the instructions weren't brilliant on the enclosed leaflet, I found it very straightforward to set up and charge it for the first time. I left it charging overnight as it said to charge for 8 hours.
It looks like a small, green and white iron. It has a plastic chamber which collects the fuzz that comes off your clothes. Underneath is a white plastic dial which twists to enable you to to remove fluff of different sizes/select material depth. There's an on button which you need to press once and it stays on.
As this is from Phillips, I'm actually a bit disappointed with how it performs. I really expected an amazing gadget, which could replace my less than £10 defuzzer that I already own. But I'll be honest, my little gadget works better.
I gave the Philips Fabric Shaver a really good go and tested it on several different materials with varying levels of bobbling. I used all three settings on the bottom, on several different materials, multiple times, and still didn't get the closeness and smoothness that I was looking for. Just to thoroughly compare it, I used my existing defuzzer on another patch. Sadly the Philips just didn't remove enough fuzz. It's also quite a noisy little machine.
I know I can get rid of all the bobbling, fuzz and fluff, so that my coat/sheet/top look and feel like new - I just wanted something faster, more powerful and able to clear a larger area more easily. Does it remove fuzz? Yes it does - just not enough for my liking.
Sadly this reminds me of something you could pick up at a poor quality market stall. It has such a design that though it has a button on the tip of handle ir is not what makes the blade assembly rotate. Instead, the only way to get the unit to make a response is to press the lower rear part of the unit on the clothes to be defuzzed. This is curious as it results in the unit cutting section no longer lying flush with the clothing when it clearly is intended to as that has openings throughout it, but worse, as the unit is so flimsy, either the inner case that holds fuzz cut or the front guard section fall off or apart Well, I gave up trying to use it after this happened several times and each time I fully put parts back it did it again!
An appallingly bad designed unit which is nothing but a waste of materials. Fortunately I did not have to pay for it but I cannot believe this was released by Philips they really should look better at product design and quality if released under their name
It takes 8 hours to charge, has a fairly short run time of 20 minutes or so, and does not hold its charge for very long. So I found that having been unable to get going on de-pilling immediately, and having had it on overnight to charge, I was unable to try it out for a few days, due to other commitments. And when I finally was ready to groom my woolly - it had lost that charge.
I was also disappointed to discover it specifically says it does not deal with loose threads - a far more pressing tailoring requirement as my newish towelling dressing gown has some thready snags caused by irresistible cuddling of recent rescue kittens. I had hoped the Phillips was going to help, but, no, no threads please, only pills
You receive a handheld de-fuzz shaver, which is rechargeable or you can use it via the mains.
Comes with three different sized cutters, I’ve used this on some of my fleeces, jumpers, bedding and its done a great job, no issues with it stopping, it worked perfectly.
The price is high, there are lots on the market that would do similar, this having a handle works best for me, much easier to hold, and my hand didn’t ache after using it.
For me, build could be better, and it needs to be cheaper, its just under £33 when reviewing, but can’t knock its performance.
Impressed with this item, its obviously well made and designed.
It takes a long time to charge, but once charged it seems relatively easy to use. There's an on/off button on the top of the handle however you actually have to press the rear down to get it to work. This often makes it quite fiddly as the blades end up lifting off the clothes.
It doesn't do too bad a job but I just found it too fiddly and I haven't bothered much with it since.
