I really like this product. There's so many possibilities for where it can be used. The quality of the light output is unmatched in the LED world at the moment.
BUT.... in my particular use-case, I am running this with an additional 3 x 1 metre extensions. The total light output is not increased - it just dims the overall strip. This in confirmed on the FAQ section on the American version of the philips website, where it states that the 1600 lumen output is not increased by extending the strip. A lot of the issue springs from the fact that the kit comes with a 24W power brick. Doing the maths shows that this will get maxed out at a little over 2 metres.
Specifically, it gets maxed out at 4200k temperature. If you have the strip in pure red / green / blue / warm white / cool white you will not max out the power until you hit several metres.
I have done some tests with voltmeters, watt meters, and alternative power supplies (I used a 24v, 10a supply). The power limitation appears to be built into the controller so there is no way around it.
For most normal people this won't be an issue - but if you are planning on lighting an entire room with long lengths, just be aware of this limitation.

In fact, the 1 metre extension packaging states 800 lumen output - this is physically impossible, given that the total output (1600 lumens) gets split between each metre).

I began investing in Hue lighting when I bought a new home just before last Christmas. Then in January 2016, Currys has loads of Hue starter kits in the bargain bins at half price. I scooped them all up and sold the hubs that I didn't need. I also got a Hue Tap for half price, never seen it that cheap since. Anyway needless to say I have the Hue bug. A couple of weeks ago I bought the Hue Dimmer switch for a bedside lamp. The final piece of the puzzle was the Hue light strip for behind may wall mounted TV. Until now I have had a cheap eBay set behind there that came with its own remote. Unfortunately it began to fail and so I decided to bite the very expensive bullet and get a Hue light strip for full integration into my current setup.

First thing to point out is that the build quality is far superior to a cheap eBay strip, but most importantly for me, being able to integrate it and create light receipes was a big bonus. There are down sides though and they are pretty big ones. Firstly the light output is no better than the cheap ten quid set I had. Secondly the Hue light strip is less than half the length which makes the Hue strip appear dimmer in comparison.

Overall I am happy and plan to use the forthcoming motion sensor to switch on both my lightstrip and lamp when I walk into my living room. However if you don't care for the Hue integration save yourself a lot of money and get yourself a cheap set on eBay which light wise is just as good, and length wise much better value for money. Think of it this way, you can buy 6 much longer eBay sets for the price of the 2m Hue lightstrip.

Loving my Hue bulbs so far, but the Hue Lightstrip just feels like it has been rushed out.
There is a big wall-wart attached to the plug, which is ugly, but also an additional chocolate-bar sized box which has to stuck out of sight close to o the strip (that's assuming you have room there)

You can trim the strip to size, but only at 30cm intervals, so you usually either have some excess you have to wrap around somehow, or clip the strip and then leave a gap either side of what you're trying to light.

I'm sure it will be a good product after a couple more iterations of development, but right now it's a bit of a bodge

I delved into the world of home automation a few years ago, since then I have tried many different products from companies such as LightwaveRF, LIFX, Nest, Logitech Harmony etc. I have a wide range of experience with technology designed for home automation and I can honestly say that the Philips Hue Lightstrip overall is a good product, they provide an excellent range of colour and are some of the brightest Lightstrips I have ever used. But they do have some limitations and some simple changes from the product developers at Philips would turn this review from a 4 star into a 5 star. More on that later.

I use the Philips Hue Lightstrips in my lounge and kitchen. I have eight sets in total, all connected wirelessly to the Hue Bridge. The Lightstrips are ideal for placing under kitchen cabinets, or indeed on top of the wall mounted cabinets that I have in my lounge. I use the Hue Tap to control them in most cases, and also an Amazon Echo Dot for voice control and a standard wall mounted light switch in the kitchen. The Philips Hue app is easy to use, but somewhat convoluted in its setup. Having said that, once you have everything setup as it should be, its very good indeed. I suggest that when it comes to setting things up, do take your time and don't give up easily as the rewards are great when its all working properly.

As I mentioned, there are some downfalls to this product. But before I get into that, I need to tell you how I have my Lightstrips installed in my kitchen.

On top of some of the kitchen cabinets is a power socket, six of them in total, each one of these sockets are operated from a standard light switch on the wall in the kitchen, I can then turn on or off all of the lightstrips from this single switch.
