Assign as many individual lights to the switch as you like, or just an entire room. By default all of the buttons act as you'd expect with a single press - on turns them on to their last setting, off turns them off, and you can raise/lower the brightness with the middle two buttons. However you can also assign additional profiles to subsequent presses of the "on" button. You can have separate actions assigned for 2 up to 5 presses for a total of 4 profiles. It sounds more complicated than it is - it works really smooth in reality and you quickly get used to "two presses for bright white, three for mood lighting, four for movie watching setting..." or whatever you prefer.
If you're feeling extra lazy, the switch itself easily comes away from the wall mount and can be used as a portable remote, and attaches back magnetically.
Of course it also comes with a "standard" Hue bulb. So no reds and blues of the premium bulbs, or even the adjustable white balance of the medium bulbs, but you still have the smart management and dimming, so great for the places where you just want light, but not full customisation, like hallways.
Overall, a great addition to your Hue lighting system.
These are fantastic... so easy to mount & link to your bulbs. Literally takes around 3 minutes from getting out of the packet to having it fully installed and working.
The self adhesive strips fit very securely to the wall & have withstood the fingers of my 4 & 6 year olds!
The switches are slim & neat - we've chosen to place them next to the wired switch and have avoided using them as a 'mobile remote' to stop the little ones loosing them (they're unaware that the switches are removable!).
You can preset your favourite lighting recipes using the app so that each press of the on button changes the bulb setting.
Great for use in my sons room as I can easily change the lighting to a night light just by pressing the button twice.
Will definitely be purchasing more as our lighting conversion expands!!
Technically, the remote works very well and I have one at both the top and bottom of my stairs.
Their support is the worst I've encountered! One response every 24 hours and each one was as useless as the previous one. This has been ongoing for days now and I still don't have this resolved. Each time a different person picks up the ticket and so there is no continuity (or incentive it would seem) in them resolving the issue.
STAY AWAY from Philips Hue and go with a manufacturer who cares about their customers.
I've programmed the Dimmer to work via the bridge and the colour light in the master bedroom - as my other half kept forgetting to bring her iPhone upstairs of an evening. I set the "On" button to scroll through 5 different scenes - the first being a low light setting so as not to dazzle if we need to turn the light on during the night. I've also purchased an app called "iConnectHue" that allows for programming more options and scenes to different button presses, as we'll soon be receiving a strip light for behind our bed's headboard, I'll use that to adjust different scenes. We currently have 8 Hue lights in the house, and I may well buy another Dimmer for mounting downstairs.
The attached images are screenshots from the iConnectHue app! The amount of Control options for the whole Hue system make Philips' own Hue app look crippled, and adds greatly to the functionality of the Dimmer switch.
The dimmer switch is programmable from the Philips Hue App. I have two bulbs in lamps in the lounge and 4 spotlights in the lounge ceiling. The remote and App will control one set of bulbs or one room!?
I have a problem with how the system works... I can have the spotlights and bulbs as a room, and a scene will be applied to all. I don't want to sit of a winters evening with all my lights on, so I have programmed the lamps as one room and the spotlights as another room. You can't have the bulbs associated with more than one room! So then the dimmer will only operate one room, so currently I have this set to my spotlights, which means if I wish to dim the lamps, then I have to use a different controller such as my iPad or Phone, which is fine if it's next to you, but it's often in the room next door charging.
So beware, the system is limited, Philips support suggest you buy a few third party Apps to solve the problem, I have 4 apps currently with little more control, and extra cost. Of course Philips will tell you they don't support these apps and there is little more they can do.
