From the manufacturer
The Philips hue ecosystem combines brilliant LED light with intuitive technology and it puts them both in the palm of your hand. Together, the bulbs, the bridge, hue tap and the app will change the way you use light. Forever.
Simple and smart, hue lux bulbs produce beautiful warm white light that can be brightened and dimmed to suit any occasion. Hue lux gives you total control over your lights via your smartphone or tablet, even when you’re away from home. The bulbs screw into your current light fittings and they work with the hue app, your alerts, timers and geofencing. Even use hue lux with IFTTT recipes, or simply dim it to suit your mood or activity. Set it up in your bathroom, your kitchen, the hallway, your living room, anywhere you need high quality white light.
Philips hue lux lamps give off a bright, warm white light for a range of functions. It’s so easy to set the light level for any activity you have in mind. Enjoy optimal digital dimming control from your smartphone/tablet - no more fiddling with dimmers or switches.
750 lumen output
hue lux is intuitive and easy to use. All the E27 bulbs are fully dimmable, without ever needing to install dimmer switches, tearing up your walls in the process. Just unscrew your traditional light bulbs and replace them with a hue LED light bulb. The light quality is very high, and gives off a type of light equivalent to an incandescent globe.
Safety and security
If you're working late or out for the night, you can simply turn your connected lights on or off remotely. That way you can make it look like you're home, even when you're not. You can also set your lights to come on at a set time. Ideal if you're away on holiday but you want people to think you're still in. The lights will switch on just before you arrive home from work; that way you'll never come back to a dark house again.
The timer function lets you preset what time your hue lux bulbs activate, whether simply switching them on/off or fading in/out over time. Use hue lux as your wake up light. Preset it for gradual brightness intensity to bring you out of your sleep in a pleasant, gentle way. No more jarring beeps of a conventional alarm clock. At night, you can preset the timer to turn your lights off very slowly, to help you fall asleep naturally.
A first for Philips, the hue ecosystem is open to the developer community beyond Philips. There is an ever growing number of applications being developed by inspired third party developers, which has resulted in creative lighting schemes opening possibilities such as syncing your lights to incoming mails or tweets, or linking it to many other signals from online feeds.
Plug & play
The plug & play design of the hue lux starter kit ensures a hassle-free installation. To make things more fun, Philips hue is controlled by the Philips hue app, the hue tap wireless smart switch, IFTTT online services and a huge range of creative third party applications available in app stores, thanks to the API being open to all developers out there.
Control from your smart device
The Philips hue personal wireless lighting system lets you control your lights wirelessly from anywhere in your house. Be it from the living room, the dinning table or from your bedroom, your smart device can control any light connected to the bridge.
Customise and automate
Make your smart lighting work for you. hue eases your life by offering you the possibility to automate light settings. The integrated Geofencing technology toggles the lights off when you leave your house and switches them back on when you’re back. Never come back to a dark home again. By linking it to If This Then That (IFTTT) you add another digital layer to your lighting. Have a bulb flashing when getting an important incoming mail or social media update, program a light flash when your favourite team scores or have your lights react to the weather forecast. Possibilities are endless.
Over the air upgradeable
The Philips hue ecosystem is based on the ZigBee Light Link technology - a low-power, safe, and reliable way to control your lights. Updates to both software and firmware are done wirelessly and seamlessly, direct to your hue bulbs or bridge.
Expand your ecosystem
You can connect up to 50 bulbs or lamps to your Philips hue bridge. Simply begin with any of the available starter kits and start adding in any combination. So, you can have Philips hue and lux bulbs, Philips Friends of hue Bloom, Iris or LightStrips. Control any connected light in your home with just the tap of your finger.

Top customer reviews
You can dim the brightness, but the yellowy-white colour is fixed. (Originally Philips had said the lux would feature variable white colour balance too).
Not to be confused with the more expensive hue bulbs which can adjust white from warm white 2700k to daylight white 6300k and any spectrum colour too at double the price.
Good for people who simply want dimmable warm white led bulbs to save on electricity costs, combined with a touch of 21st century automated home technology.
Although the colour isn't variable, these have a nice, warmish light, significantly more pleasant than the original Ikea LED we had in our lamp. They go nicely with incandescent lights.
As with all Philips Hue products, you need the Home Hub for these to work, which you would normally get with the starter kit. Once you have it, there is no reason not to have all the lights in your house on it. Although you can't change the colour with the Lux lights, you can control when they go off and on, including setting them to switch on when you arrive home if it's after dark, or dim when you leave the house.
Philips Hue is now compatible with Apple HomeKit, but if you have the original Bridge, you need to replace it with a new one, for which Philips offers a discount, but not a free replacement.
Usually in the UK, the E27 screw connections are found in down lights usually found in the kitchen, bathroom or outside porch lights. Most table lamps are either B22 connections or the E14 connections, so the only thing you can do is get some adapters.
With that in mind, these are not really suitable for downlight lamps. The Hue bulbs are slightly longer than the normal E27 bulbs, and that is being they shine the light out in a 360 degree fashion, not a 40 degree arc like your normal bulbs, therefore you lose any downlight lighting features and instead get a light cast across your room.
I had planned to pop one of these into my porch downlight so I could have it come on as I approached the house, but unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to do that due to the above.
In reality, the Lux bulbs aren't as fun as the RGB ones. If you've got a dimmer switch on the wall already, then all you're doing is moving the dimmer switch to your phone, with the added features of the smart home world. If you're not after RGB, and simply want to dim the lights automatically when a film comes on, or have them slowly brighten up as your alarm comes on, then these are perfect for you. Otherwise you might want to invest in the RGB ones
These are fabulous, and easy to set up too. I really love them, but be aware that despite whatever apps you use with them, these bulbs do not have a deep dimming capacity and so are not really that good for a gentle wake-up light. Other lamps do work, like the Hue-go , so if the wake-up capacity is what you want, look at the other options.
You need broadband to use these lights.
It works, and does what it claims to do, however the mobile app could use some work and certainly would benefit from some better widgets to control the lights without having to open the app every time..
