Product Description

Take care of your mouth--your body will thank you

One of the first things people notice about a person is their smile. That’s one reason it’s important to look after your teeth and gums--you only get one chance to make a first impression. But brushing your teeth also gives you a healthy mouth, and that can make an impression that's much more important than the first: a healthy body. Research shows that your oral health can significantly contribute to your overall health. Especially the health of your gums. Gum disease has been linked to a variety of conditions that affect the entire body. One recent study showed that bacterial by-products present in diseased gums can damage the heart once they enter the bloodstream. In fact, there is growing research that says people with severe gum disease have a significantly greater risk of stroke or heart attack, and recent studies show a link between gum disease and diabetes.

People with diabetes are more susceptible to gum disease. In turn, gum disease makes diabetes harder to control. It's a harmful cycle that’s centred in the mouth. But what if there is more than one mouth to worry about? Most pregnant women have heightened oral care issues, and certain pregnant women with severe gum disease are more likely to deliver a preterm, low birth weight baby. This risk can be significantly reduced, however, by treatment before the third trimester.

Sonicare FlexCare features

ProResults brush head--designed for a better fit

The Philips HX6952/71 sonic toothbrush is clinically proven to remove significantly more plaque than Sonicare Elite and manual toothbrushes. It is especially designed for a better fit with your mouth. The HX6952/71 brush head's contoured fit, wider bristle range and broader sweeping motion provide better tooth coverage. It reaches those contours of your mouth and cleans the areas that others can't. Provides better plaque removal and a comfort-enhanced brushing experience.

Two contoured brush heads

Philips Sonicare HX6952/71 comes with two contoured brush heads: Standard is ideal for complete cleaning while Compact provides precision cleaning.

Philips Smartimer® technology

Philips HX6952/71 Sonicare toothbrush comes with a Smartimer, which encourages two-minute brushing as recommended by dental professionals. The Smartimer automatically stops your Sonicare toothbrush after the dentist-recommended brushing time of two minutes has elapsed. If you switch the toothbrush off at any time during the brushing cycle, for instance to rinse or apply more toothpaste, the Smartimer interrupts its timing and resumes where it left off when you switch the appliance back on again.

Although a two-minute brushing session is recommended for optimal results, you can always stop or restart the toothbrush at any time by pressing the power button. When the handle is placed in the charger, the Smartimer automatically resets to ensure a complete two-minute brushing cycle the next time you use it. The Smartimer also resets itself if you stop your Sonicare toothbrush for more than 45 seconds.

Philips® 30-second interval timer

The Philips HX6952/71 features beeps at 30-second intervals during the two-minute brushing period, telling you when to move the toothbrush to the next section, thus making sure that you brush all sections of your mouth evenly and thoroughly. It takes the guesswork out of when to move the brush from the outside of the teeth to the inside, and from the upper teeth to the lower teeth.

Deluxe recharge gauge

The deluxe recharge gauge prompts about the charge left in the the electric brush.

Multi-voltage compact travel charger

Compact travel charger lets you enjoy FlexCare while you're on the go.

All-in-one sanitising, charging and storing solution

The Philips HX6952/71 rechargeable sonic toothbrush comes as an all-in-one UV sanitising, charging and storing solution. It is so convenient to carry anywhere and you can enjoy 20 two-minute brushings from fully charged. The multi-voltage charger and deluxe soft travel case give you peace of mind to carry it anywhere in the world. The deluxe recharge gauge helps track the battery charge by showing a light signal. The green light level tracks battery charge and the yellow light signals when to recharge.

Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser

Behind those pearly whites, the mouth harbours hundreds of different types of micro-organisms (germs), some of which are transferred to a toothbrush during use. Micro-organisms in the bathroom or household environment may also collect on a toothbrush. So how can you be comfortable that your toothbrush heads are as clean as can be? Philips Sonicare, the number one sonic toothbrush brand recommended by dental professionals worldwide, introduces the Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser, designed to sanitise Philips Sonicare and other leading rechargeable toothbrush heads.

Why Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser?

The Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser safeguards against potentially harmful germs on the toothbrush by using ultraviolet (UV) clean technology, similar to that used in hospitals, to alter the DNA of germs that may be residing on a toothbrush, preventing germs from reproducing and thereby rendering them ineffective. As a result, the Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser helps eliminate germs for a clean, hygienic brush head in one simple sanitisation cycle. Conveniently, the sanitiser unit holds two brush heads, and multiple family members may clean their brush heads in one go, without any cross-contamination.

How to use the Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser

The Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser is simple to use and has a built-in automatic shut-off for a hygienic and chemical-free sanitisation process. Users place one or two rechargeable toothbrush heads inside the unit, close the door and push the button. It is that simple. A blue light will indicate that the product is on and working. Once the sanitisation cycle has begun, the sanitiser will run for 10 minutes, and will automatically shut off when the cycle is complete, leaving fully sanitised brush heads ready for their next use. The unit may also serve as a storage device, until the next time the brush is used.

Sanitise your brush head daily with Philips UV clean technology

Frequency of sanitisation is at the user's discretion, but it can be done as often as you brush to be sure that your toothbrush head is sanitised before each use.

How do I sanitise a Sonicare brush head?

After brushing, rinse the brush head and shake off excess water. Place your finger in the door recess on the right-hand side of the sanitiser and pull open the door. Place the brush heads directly on the drip tray with the bristles facing the UV light bulb.

UV clean technology

Specially engineered Philips UV sanitising technology helps kill germs on brush heads.

All-round clean

All-round clean reflection for optimal results. The reflector distributes sanitising light around the entire top of the brush head for optimal results.

One touch

It is so simple to use. A simple push of the button safeguards against germs.

Auto shut-off

You don't need to tie yourself up with the sanitising cycle. It just automatically turns off after 10 minutes when the UV clean cycle is complete.

Hygienic storage

Hygienic storage for your brush head.

Compatible design

The Philips UV sanitiser fits all leading rechargeable brush heads.

Why Philips Sonicare?

  • The contact of Sonicare's specially-designed soft bristles, supported by unique, dynamic fluid forces, has a thorough cleaning effect, even in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Sonicare gives a uniquely stimulating clean feel that encourages people to brush for almost two times longer than with a manual toothbrush.
  • Sonicare is clinically proven to reduce plaque bacteria in hard-to-reach areas.

Bathroom plug

All Sonicare electric toothbrushes come with a standard worldwide bathroom plug lead, designed to be used in a bathroom socket. The lead can also be plugged into a wall socket via a converter (converter not included).

The FlexCare has a two-year warranty, but remember to replace your brush head at least every three months for optimal results.

I have had various types of Sonicare toothbrushes for nearly 15 years. They have always been superb in their efficiency of cleaning but we always had to change the head for individual use. Now not only do we have individual bases but an easy to use cleaning system for the heads as well. In that 15 years I have never needed a professional clean my BPE (Professional Scoring of Basic Periodontal(Gum)Disease) are all 0's, I am 60 years of age and a dentist. This version of the product is nearing perfection!

Buyer beware. I like this product very much. It does what it says and the sanitiser is a really nice feature. I appreciated when after about a year and a half, Philips replaced my faulty toothbrush. However, now, after 14 months, it has failed again. Philips can not tell me what the expected life of the product should be. They can only tell me that it depends on usage. I am the only one that uses this toothbrush. If you are buying this for a family, keep in mind that the product might now last more than a few months. My last two failed in less than the warranty period but of course the warranty is based on the date of the initial purchase. I will buy again because it is such a good product but I think that Philips has a quality problem with this product.

[...] for a toothbrush? Come on, there was no way on earth this was going to get 5 stars unless one of my back teeth actually grew back again

But I have had it for just under a week now and I haven't stopped licking my teeth and I am still shocked at how incredibly clean they feel - I've been using an electric toothbrush for years so what on Earth have I been doing wrong.

Well, I haven't been using Sonic

The first thing I noticed when I read the instructions was this odd little feature called Easystart. For the first 14 uses it slowly increases the power so you can get used to it. Oh honestly I thought to myself, who would need that? But because I wanted to review this from the start I didn't deactivate it so the very first time I used it it was technically at a very low sonic level and I swear to you here and now I actually yelped!

This sonic lark feels totally different from just a common or garden rotating electric toothbrush and if you haven't used this sonic technology before then let your mouth get used to it over a week as directed.

There are 3 timings for the main wash, a quick 1 minute clean, a more traditional 2 minute clean and a 3 minute clean and massage.
The massage function can be used as a separate function in itself and it feels wonderfully odd and sounds a bit like a light sabre fight in your mouth
The last function is a sensitive mode which gives a great clean on a slightly gentler level

Now onto the sanitiser... I'm not entirely sure about this and this stems from the very lazy doctrine "I've never needed one before"
It works well, you take the brush head off, open the door, place it, close it and press the power button and the logo lights up to show the UV light is on.

I looked around many places for different models of the Philips Sonicare toothbrush. The different numbers are particularly confusing, as seems the trend with ALL Philips products! As far as I could fathom, this set is for the 2 of the most advanced model of the Philips Sonicare FlexCare toothbrush, coming with -
2 x handles
2 x heads
1 x Ultra Violet Sanitiser (takes 2 heads)
2 x travel case
2 x charging bases

I have used the brush a few times now and it does make a noticeable difference to the clean feeling of teeth. This is most obvious for rear teeth, which are the most difficult to reach with a manual toothbrush. You basically hold the head of the Sonicare Toothbrush on the tooth (minimal movements help ensure bristles get in between teeth, but brushing motion is not required) and the Sonic movement of the bristles does the rest.

The auto timer function pauses at 30 second intervals, 4 times, for brushing quadrants of the mouth.
I would have preferred 6 times, as I like to brush (upper and lower teeth) in 3 stages - Left rear, Right rear, front.
It is simple to just start a new brushing cycle again and stop at the second interval.

I left both units charging for 24 hours prior to use and have been using for nearly 2 weeks, without need for recharging.

The only reason I have not given 5 stars, is due to the following frustration.
The main base holds/charges only one toothbrush! Located on main base next to the UV sanitiser.
The set comes with 1 x additional individual charger base

For years, my wife and I have bought Oral B electric toothbrushes and liked them to use but been very frustrated by their short recharge interval. Add in that the batteries have given out on all four units after 2-3 years and we felt it was time for a change of brand. We checked out the Which reviews and decided on Philips. This dual pack has made us wish we switched sooner. After owning these brushes for about a month, we have not yet had to recharge them and there is no discernible deterioration in performance. In addition, the included UV sanitiser unit means you can forget about that slight nagging doubt about hygiene that will have arisen in the mind of anyone who has inspected the grotty insides of a well-used toothbrush head. All this within a very keenly priced package that includes 2 brushes with heads and the sanitiser unit makes this an very good value purchase.
