Take care of your mouth--your body will thank you
One of the first things people notice about a person is their smile. That’s one reason it’s important to look after your teeth and gums--you only get one chance to make a first impression. But brushing your teeth also gives you a healthy mouth, and that can make an impression that's much more important than the first: a healthy body. Research shows that your oral health can significantly contribute to your overall health. Especially the health of your gums. Gum disease has been linked to a variety of conditions that affect the entire body. One recent study showed that bacterial by-products present in diseased gums can damage the heart once they enter the bloodstream. In fact, there is growing research that says people with severe gum disease have a significantly greater risk of stroke or heart attack, and recent studies show a link between gum disease and diabetes.
People with diabetes are more susceptible to gum disease. In turn, gum disease makes diabetes harder to control. It's a harmful cycle that’s centred in the mouth. But what if there is more than one mouth to worry about? Most pregnant women have heightened oral care issues, and certain pregnant women with severe gum disease are more likely to deliver a preterm, low birth weight baby. This risk can be significantly reduced, however, by treatment before the third trimester.

Sonicare FlexCare features
ProResults brush head--designed for a better fit
The Philips HX6952/71 sonic toothbrush is clinically proven to remove significantly more plaque than Sonicare Elite and manual toothbrushes. It is especially designed for a better fit with your mouth. The HX6952/71 brush head's contoured fit, wider bristle range and broader sweeping motion provide better tooth coverage. It reaches those contours of your mouth and cleans the areas that others can't. Provides better plaque removal and a comfort-enhanced brushing experience.
Two contoured brush heads
Philips Sonicare HX6952/71 comes with two contoured brush heads: Standard is ideal for complete cleaning while Compact provides precision cleaning.
Philips Smartimer® technology
Philips HX6952/71 Sonicare toothbrush comes with a Smartimer, which encourages two-minute brushing as recommended by dental professionals. The Smartimer automatically stops your Sonicare toothbrush after the dentist-recommended brushing time of two minutes has elapsed. If you switch the toothbrush off at any time during the brushing cycle, for instance to rinse or apply more toothpaste, the Smartimer interrupts its timing and resumes where it left off when you switch the appliance back on again.
Although a two-minute brushing session is recommended for optimal results, you can always stop or restart the toothbrush at any time by pressing the power button. When the handle is placed in the charger, the Smartimer automatically resets to ensure a complete two-minute brushing cycle the next time you use it. The Smartimer also resets itself if you stop your Sonicare toothbrush for more than 45 seconds.
Philips® 30-second interval timer
The Philips HX6952/71 features beeps at 30-second intervals during the two-minute brushing period, telling you when to move the toothbrush to the next section, thus making sure that you brush all sections of your mouth evenly and thoroughly. It takes the guesswork out of when to move the brush from the outside of the teeth to the inside, and from the upper teeth to the lower teeth.
Deluxe recharge gauge
The deluxe recharge gauge prompts about the charge left in the the electric brush.
Multi-voltage compact travel charger
Compact travel charger lets you enjoy FlexCare while you're on the go.
All-in-one sanitising, charging and storing solution
The Philips HX6952/71 rechargeable sonic toothbrush comes as an all-in-one UV sanitising, charging and storing solution. It is so convenient to carry anywhere and you can enjoy 20 two-minute brushings from fully charged. The multi-voltage charger and deluxe soft travel case give you peace of mind to carry it anywhere in the world. The deluxe recharge gauge helps track the battery charge by showing a light signal. The green light level tracks battery charge and the yellow light signals when to recharge.
Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser
Behind those pearly whites, the mouth harbours hundreds of different types of micro-organisms (germs), some of which are transferred to a toothbrush during use. Micro-organisms in the bathroom or household environment may also collect on a toothbrush. So how can you be comfortable that your toothbrush heads are as clean as can be? Philips Sonicare, the number one sonic toothbrush brand recommended by dental professionals worldwide, introduces the Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser, designed to sanitise Philips Sonicare and other leading rechargeable toothbrush heads.
Why Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser?
The Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser safeguards against potentially harmful germs on the toothbrush by using ultraviolet (UV) clean technology, similar to that used in hospitals, to alter the DNA of germs that may be residing on a toothbrush, preventing germs from reproducing and thereby rendering them ineffective. As a result, the Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser helps eliminate germs for a clean, hygienic brush head in one simple sanitisation cycle. Conveniently, the sanitiser unit holds two brush heads, and multiple family members may clean their brush heads in one go, without any cross-contamination.
How to use the Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser
The Philips Sonicare UV sanitiser is simple to use and has a built-in automatic shut-off for a hygienic and chemical-free sanitisation process. Users place one or two rechargeable toothbrush heads inside the unit, close the door and push the button. It is that simple. A blue light will indicate that the product is on and working. Once the sanitisation cycle has begun, the sanitiser will run for 10 minutes, and will automatically shut off when the cycle is complete, leaving fully sanitised brush heads ready for their next use. The unit may also serve as a storage device, until the next time the brush is used.
Sanitise your brush head daily with Philips UV clean technology
Frequency of sanitisation is at the user's discretion, but it can be done as often as you brush to be sure that your toothbrush head is sanitised before each use.
How do I sanitise a Sonicare brush head?
After brushing, rinse the brush head and shake off excess water. Place your finger in the door recess on the right-hand side of the sanitiser and pull open the door. Place the brush heads directly on the drip tray with the bristles facing the UV light bulb.
UV clean technology
Specially engineered Philips UV sanitising technology helps kill germs on brush heads.
All-round clean reflection for optimal results. The reflector distributes sanitising light around the entire top of the brush head for optimal results.
It is so simple to use. A simple push of the button safeguards against germs.
You don't need to tie yourself up with the sanitising cycle. It just automatically turns off after 10 minutes when the UV clean cycle is complete.
Hygienic storage for your brush head.
The Philips UV sanitiser fits all leading rechargeable brush heads.

Now I know a lot of you are thinking, well you need to brush softly anyway. Well, I do but you need to be "extra" gentle with this device. Furthermore, for the price there should be some feature to tell you.
I am now using the old fashioned toothbrush. I don't care if adverts say dentists recommend these devices for cleaning teeth. I'm still not convinced.
I had been a user of the Oral-b toothbrushes for the last 7 years until I changed to this Phillips Sonicare brush in October 2007.
Even with the oral-b I still had to visit my dentist every three months for a clean and polish, who typically graded the tartar build-up as a '3'. I've used this for 3 months, had my check up and my dentist said there was no need to have my teeth cleaned GRADED '1'.
The only difference in the way I clean my teeth has been the brush. Every time I use it it feels like I have just had my teeth cleaned.
This also has a two year manufacturers guarantee. My first brush, that I bought in 2007 gave up the ghost 4 weeks short of two years. I contacted Amazon, sent the broken one back and received the replacement within two days. Customer service such as that cannot be bettered can it! Well done Amazon and well done Phillips for producing a toothbrush with a 2 year guarantee.
It still is the best and my dentist loves me for using it. Don't settle for second best, buy the best and at this price it is good value.
Firstly the handle starts to make an awful noise, the vibrations build up to a crescendo of sound then kaput!
No more sonic waves of lovely cleaning loveliness.
This is a real shame as it beats the competition hands down and does give great results... It also looks good too with the stainless metal detailing and the brush sanitizer is useful.
I seem to be not alone here with these faults and really do hope that these are remodelled and their reliability improved soon as they are the best on the market... But let down by their performance.
So I purchased this with some trepidation since so expensive, although lucky enough to get on the Amazon Friday special at around [...].
The brush movement is gentle but also effective - I like the softness of the brush. I know other reviewers talked about the 'yelp' they made when first using - true, however, it lasted for less than one second, and then the joy of using takes over. Bought with the UV sanitiser which I haven't yet tried so cannot yet comment on its effectiveness.
Before purchasing, I was intending to buy the smaller brushhead (because my mouth is small) but the standard brushhead is just perfect for getting round the back of the back teeth so I will not bother with the smaller brushheads because a) expensive and b)not needed.
Just to add though, that along with another reviewer I found I could not register the product on the Philips website. I wonder why?
Well sadly one of the brushes stopped charging but since it has a 2 year guarantee I phoned Philips and fantastic! They sent out a new one. The new one is slightly different in that the display for the different brushing routines one displays when turned on. I didn't realise this so phoned them again. THIS is for information for anyone else in the same position.
So still a good buy but was disappointed that one packed up after just a year.
Have used the sanitiser regularly. Obviously although one cannot see the difference I hope there is one!
