- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 March 2014I just have my brush for the second day now, and so far I am quite pleased with it. It is completely different than my Braun I had before because the head doesn't move as much. You can only feel the brush vibrate gently against your teeth and it feels like it is not cleaning at all compared to the Braun. But it is, my teeth feel perfectly clean after usage.
The 30 second reminders you get, make the 2 minutes seem much shorter than with my Braun that only gives a signal after 2 minutes. And then the whitening still has to happen. I don't expect my teeth to get any whiter. Guess that is more for people who drink coffee and wine a lot and smoke. But who knows, maybe I will be surprised after two weeks.
I now combine my brush with the Waterpik i recently bought and every night my mouth feels like I just came from the dentist :D
I ordered the version that came in a loose carton box, but it arrived fine and the product seems genuine, even if it is hard to check that.
The charger that comes with the brush is an original Philips charger that actually comes with the retail version as well, only the retail version has an extra shell you can put on to wind the cable around it and put on two extra brush heads. Since I am single, that is not of much use to me so the charger that came with it is perfectly fine. Compared to the charger of my Braun, this is a breeze to clean. No nasty spots that you cannot reach.
This device comes with the initial brush but I believe the original package has two. Since the original one is now a lot cheaper via Amazon and the extra price will be compensated by the free delivery (I live in Portugal) you might as well order that one. It just got cheaper like a day after I ordered mine.
The plug is a normal European plug so I did not have to cut off the usual British monstrosity that comes with devices I order on amazon.co.uk
What the hell were the British thinking when they created that kind of power plug?
I read that this brush doesn't last as long as my Braun did. Actually after 7 years, it is still working, I just wanted to have a new one and since most people are positive about this brush, I decided to get it.
I'll update this post if I have more experience with this device.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 May 2014I was advised by my dentist to switch from a manual to an electric toothbrush. I must admit that I was sceptical about it as I felt it was another money-making fad.
However, 9 months down the line, I have no regrets. The toothbrush uses sonic waves to remove plaque and other gunk off your teeth to leave a silky feel. Granted, it's not a dentist clean and polish but it comes close! The brush head does all the work so you don't have to - particularly good if you suffer from arthritis.
The battery life is decent, lasting over a week based on brushing twice daily. It comes with a nice little box to tidy it away- either when not in use at home or for travel purposes. The only downside for me is that the plug is designed for a bathroom-friendly shaving socket, which is something I don't have. Therefore, I had to invest in a plug adapter to enable me to charge it up in my bedroom. They aren't expensive, it's just an extra bit of extra faff that Phillips could remove quite easily.
Charge time is not long at all, no more than an hour and the replacement heads are only what you'd pay for your average Colgate toothbrush at circa £4 each. Amazon sell them in packs of 4 for around £16.
My advice: take the plunge and buy one of these toothbrushes - you get what you pay for!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 March 2010I have used electric toothbrushes for a while, and they are pretty much ALL better than doing it by hand.
The ones I have used (in no particular order)
- Interplak (Bausch & Lomb) the one where each individual clump of bristles rotates independantly)
- oral b (Braun, one of their cheaper ones - maybe vitality)
- no-name 'sonic' toothbrush
This one does seem to be a bit better than the rest.
Better:
- lithium ion battery. Greener (I think than nickel cadmium - but mainly because cadmium is Baaaaad), and long lasting. The best rechargable battery tech.
- the quad-pacer (this is probably good on any make / all makes that have it or something similar, more later)
- the construction (the shaft that goes into the toothbrush is metal, as is part of the inside of each brush)
- the base. Very neat the way that the charging bit can be taken separately, and the cord wraps away, and is hidden when the base is closed.
- the travel case (it's silly really, but it is a good thing to have the bristles not bent out of shape in ones wash-bag when travelling
- whiteness result. My teeth are a bit whiter than with the others. They don't look like an American's teeth, but they are whiter.
- plaque prevention/removal. I think the brush is stopping any more plaque, hard to know for sure - as there already was a bit when I switched. I always got build up of plaque with all of my previous brushes. It could be the action, it could be the amount of time I was spending.
The same:
pretty much all of the e-brushes give the same 'clean' feel - i.e. no fur on the teeth after use.
Worse:
The price - though that's not a blocker, given the quality. It's worth it to me.
ummmmm.... I can't think of anything else.
None of my previous brushes had a quad-pacer, though a few had the two minutes auto-off. I think I lacked the patience to go the full two minutes so ended up cutting short most of the time. I can make it up to 30 seconds each time, however, and then two lots of 15 seconds for the front upper & the front lower teeth. These shorter goals are easier to stick to. It's a noddy feature really, but it really works in terms of keeping you at it. I'm sure that all the current makes do this equally well. Probably with my previous brushes i was doing a minute to a minute and a half.
The no-name sonic (or maybe the name was sonik, or something) had a nylon connector, into which the brushes slotted. This did not take long to wear a bit, so that the brushes are loose & floppy. It's land-fill. Shame as it was working otherwise.
The Braun / oral-b. was working OK, and then just stopped one day. It took me a while to make it into land-fill as I still had a few of the brushes, including the special polishing ones (no noticeable difference). In the time it stood around, the rubberised parts of the handle have gone all sticky. I'm not sure why manufacturers bother with this. I would be throwing it out just because of this. The Philips also has rubberised bits on the case. I hope they don't go funny. You can find reviews / how-to's to replace the battery in an Oral B, even with a NiMH one. The original one in most is NiCad (baaad).
The interplak worked well, and I think that I even made the 2 mins often. It's action of the contra-rotating clumps of bristles encouraged this. However, every now and then one of the individual bristles would wiggle its way into the space between two teeth, or between a tooth and the gums, which then had to be picked out. Ew[...] It could be because the heads that I had were getting old. I bought in bulk when they started to become scarce.
Update: 3 years on and still going strong. Well OK the plastic hinge of the plastic carry box does not close brilliantly.
I use it every day, and travel about with it.
I can't understand people who are having trouble with theirs. I do always let the battery run down, such that you get a few extra vibrations after finishing a brush. That is still generally about a week - 10 days use. I wonder if running it right down helps the battery life.
I also have a philishave shaver which is at least 5 years old, where the battery lasts for ever. It was part of the reason I chose philips.
I'm still pleased.

imangashReviewed in Spain on 25 October 20155.0 out of 5 stars Me ha sorprendido. Perfecto.
Me encanta. Es perfecto.

Funciona bien. Pero después de usar por un tiempo largo, la parte inferior cambió color por el contacto con agua.
