What is OptimalTEMP technology?

Optimal moisture and a heat of 130 degrees is required to remove all creases and iron effectively. PerfectCare, with its OptimalTEMP technology, offers the combination of high steam pressure with one optimal temperature that is safe for use on all ironable fabrics.

OptimalTEMP has been made possible thanks to the cyclonic steam chamber and the control processor. The cyclonic steam chamber ensures that, at a gentle temperature, consistently high steam can be delivered at the push of a button, where other steam generators at the same temperature would leak or deliver little to no steam. The control processor keeps the soleplate at a consistent temperature at all times, which makes it safe to use on all ironable fabrics, never being too hot or too cold.

Earlier irons used a hot soleplate alone as a means of removing creases and pressing garments. Later, the addition of a steam feature allowed for ironing with greater ease and speed, but required different temperature settings for different fabrics. Different temperature settings also interfered with the iron's ability to deliver steam. The higher the temperature, the more steam was possible, but the lower the temperature, the poorer the steam output.

Because of this, all irons and steam generators work with a soleplate of up to 260 degrees to generate enough steam. Furthermore, the soleplate serves only to press fabric, not to remove creases, steam is most efficient for this job.

Features

Philips
OptimalTEMP Technology

1) Soleplate temperature is maintained at all times, so you can't burn your fabrics.
2) High temperature and high pressure steam reaches deep into the fabric layers to loosen and smooth out deep creases in thick materials such as linen and pure cotton.

Philips
Approved by independent experts

This technology has been tested and approved by independent textile experts on the most delicate fabrics like silk, cashmere, wool and polyester.

Philips
No more scorched clothes

This iron promises to never burn your garments again, safely rest this iron flat down on the ironing board or clothing, rather than the heel rest, to reduce any risk of repetitive strain on your wrist.

Philips
Powerful pressurised steam for 2x faster crease removal

Pressurised steam is technically measured in bars of pressure. The higher the bar pressure the more powerful the steam comes out of the soleplate to penetrate deeper into the fabric layers. This steam generator creates 5.5 bars of steam pressure, up to 120g per minute of continuous steam and a 310g steam boost ideal for getting through larger ironing loads in half the time.

Philips
Vertical Steam

The iron can be used vertically and the steam is powerful enough to be used to iron out creases from curtains or hanging clothes for example suit jackets or dresses that might need a refresh.

Philips
SteamGlide Soleplate

Philips SteamGlide soleplate is durable, scratch resistant and provides a superior glide on all fabrics for effortless ironing. The protective material on the plate makes it scratch-resistant so your iron can stay new for longer.

Philips
Easy de-calc process and calc clean reminder

Easy De-Calc, hassle-free and effective calc removal to extend the life of your steam generator. Open the Easy De-Calc outlet on the side of the steam generator base to remove any left over water. This process takes less than a minute of easy maintenance. The reminder light indicates when to carry out the de-calc process every 10 hours of use to extend the lifetime.

Philips
1.5 litre detachable water tank

The 1.5 litre water tank gives over 2 ½ hours of ironing with fewer refills, perfect for larger ironing loads. This water tank is detachable so you can easily fill under the tap or empty into the sink.

Philips
Quick start

No more waiting for your iron to heat up, PerfectCare has a quick heat-up time and is ready to use in just 2 minutes, even the powerful steam. Turn it on, prepare your ironing area and get ready to go.

Philips
Safety Auto off

This iron shuts off automatically when left unattended after 2 minutes, when left flat on its soleplate or after 3 minutes when stood up on its heel rest.

Philips
Convenient carry lock

The safe carry lock included on this steam generator can be easily clicked into place to securely fasten the iron into place to ensure safe transportation around the house to and from storage.

Philips
Cord storage

No more trailing cables, 2 cord storage compartments housed on the side of the base provide a safe place to tidy the steam hose and power cable away.

Philips
Eco setting

Reduce your energy consumption by up to 40% with the ECO steam setting.

Philips
Power

Power efficient at 2400 watts, this steam generator uses the optimal amount of energy for the desired task.

Ironing is not my favourite pastime, so anything which makes the job easier is a bonus and i had been looking for a good iron for a while.

When this iron arrived i was a little worried about the weight of it but the weight is only in the base and the iron itself is very light.

It is simple to use- you put water into a measuring jug, it holds 1.5 litres, and fill in up via the spout in the tank. Alternatively if your sink is big enough you can fill the tank up directly from the tap, mine isn't big enough.

Once the unit is switched on it only takes a couple of minutes to heat up before use and the water tank hold more than enough for a good pile of ironing. It will make a funny noise though so be warned, when mine 1st kicked in, it really made me jump and I thought I had broken it , it was only when I stood there and listened to it that I realised it was the generator kicking in.

What i really liked about this Phillips Steam Generator was the fact that it recognises the type of fabric you are ironing so there is no need to have to keep adjusting a dial.
There is in fact no dial at all on this unit and that seems alittle strange at 1st not adjusting the iron for different fabrics but you soon get used to it.

You can leave the iron face down too and it won't burn.

It glides over all fabrics effortlessly even heavier items like jeans, and i found that i usually only had to iron one side, so i can now get through my ironing in no time at all. Jeans take about 40 seconds if that, I was so impressed. Shirts which is my biggest hate, took a minute tops.

I got through an entire basket of ironing in 20 minutes, something that normally takes me 3 hours.

I have had steam generator irons for a few years now and they truly are a marvel generally cutting a 3 hour weekly task to 1 (we are a family of four with lots of school uniforms and smart work clothes). The only issue is they don't last long, really no more than 18 months, which at this price gets pretty pricy. I was tempted by this revolutionary smart hot plate but I can honestly say it's as bad as the old days of ironing and it is truly SO annoying as it just does not get hot enough. I have just spent a whole hour ironing a double duvet with 8 pillow cases and am mad that I have wasted so much time, when I still have a whole basket waiting.

This was a great iron...until it starting flooding my ironing board with scolding hot spluttering water, thus drenching my clothing and anything in it's path! Not only does it drench everything, last night I noticed it had started leaking boiling hot water from the area where the electrical cord is stowed. As it was before the guarantee ran out I contacted Philips and they agreed to repair it. They duly arranged for the iron to be collected...only to be returned a week or so later still with the same fault. I contacted them again, went through the whole procedure again and yet again two weeks later the iron returns with the same problem. I am now sending it back for the third time, but this time I took a video of the problem in hopes that they will sort it out. You would think that given this is such an expensive iron and this is such a serious fault and they've tried and failed twice to repair it, they would just replace it with a new one. The faults on this iron render it totally useless if not downright dangerous to use. It's probably the most expensive iron I've ever bought and when it works its great but boy
oh boy, when it doesn't it's a real pain! UPDATE! It is now Jan 2016 and I received my iron back from Philips only to find that after the 3rd time of sending it back with exactly the same fault they had replaced it with a brand new one! Hurrah! Let joy be unconfined! Never the less, given my last experience, I shall be keeping all the packaging, just in case I have to start sending it back to them again. All in all, it's a great iron....as long as it works and doesn't develop the same fault. Having gone through a lot of the other reviews it seems that my iron wasn't the only one that had this drenching scolding hot water problem. :-( UPDATE 26th April 2016.

An iron is an iron. You switch it on, set the temperature and get to work. BUT NO! Women, your days of ironing dozens of shirts while the owner of them watches football may be numbered. It's time for the men to take over. Irons are no longer irons. They are no longer home appliances. Irons are now gadgets! With triggers!

This offering from Philips is a total revelation to me after years of cheap models. Ironing times have been reduced beyond all calculations. The claim is that no other iron is faster. BELIEVE IT. The world will never be the same.

#You DON'T have to worry about setting the temperature.

#Your ironing board won't burn if you leave the iron face down on it for too long. (What kind of magic is this anyway?)

#There's a lock that allows you to fix the iron onto its tank to ensure it never falls off, increasing child safety in the home.

#Continuous steam ensures no crease is going to outstay its welcome on your clothes.

#The cord is thick, long, of excellent quality and can be stored away in the base unit.

#There's an eco setting that uses reduces energy consumption but also debilitates many of the iron's superhero powers, so you won't find me going near it.

Ironing has long been a chore, a pain, a nuisance. For the first few sessions with this wonder it will become your new favourite hobby. Friends with inferior models will be mega jealous. Of course there's the small issue of the large price. You could buy an iron that costs a tenth of this and still get the job done - but nowhere near as quickly or with as much satisfaction. This crease destroyer makes your clothes and life better. If you can find a place in your budget for it, DO NOT HESITATE.
