At this point in time this is one of the cheapest AirPlay speakers available. It's a very compact offering and looks beautiful for a speaker. I traded in my Sonos System to go to AirPlay after having endless issues with dropping zones and accessing NAS drives with the Sonos. I have to say that the AirPlay is far easier and almost as flexible. This particular speaker is certainly as good as a Sonos Play:3 speaker and setup is less than 5 minutes (if you read the quick start sheet). I've only given it 4 stars because I still believe the AirPlay speakers are a little over priced and £180 (£200 in the shops) is a little steep, I'd say this is more a £150 speaker but if you want to make a start with an AirPlay setup this is a great place to start.

Just been given one of these by a friend as a gift - I was going to buy one (or something similar) but had always been deterred by the fact that AirPlay tends to be a bit hit and miss.

However, once I'd set it up (of which more below), it's very easy to use, and so far (only a day's usage, but there's surely no technical reason why it should be any different after a longer period), there's not been a hint of trouble with AirPlay - it's been rock-solid, responsive, and the sound quality is excellent. (I use an iPhone 4S (iOS6), and iPad 1 and a BT HomeHub 3)

The setup though is a complete faff, as others here have noted. It is worth persisting with, but took several tries to get it to remember my wifi details and then detect the wireless network. Now it's done, I'm hoping that if I don't use the speaker regularly (it will spend a lot of time unplugged - I do hope the battery powering the hardware which has the wifi settings retains a charge) I don't have to go through it again, as that would be unnecessarily painful.

So, that's it really - a speaker with great sound quality, hassle-free AirPlay support (for my setup at least), but irritating to get started with - so 4 stars.

This device doesn't work and suffers from Wifi drop constantly. Just search the Philips forums. They released an updated firmware, but unbelievably they no longer provide any downloads for it and refer you to a local service Center. See below:

"AD7000W is end of life product and the support is now offered via repair centres. Please contact your local Philips dealer for further assistance."

I have a Sonos 5 and Sonos 3 but needed an AirPlay speaker. This is a bargain price for an AirPlay speaker, but it's also proved in the month I have had it to be the equal of the Sonos 3 for sound quality and has been super reliable, not one drop out or difficulty in connecting to it.Setting it up is very easy, plug it in and press the appropriate button for 5 seconds, sit back and wait for your iPad etc to see it appear in your list of available networks, tap on to connect and open safari and type in 168.192.1.1,this sends you to the Setup page and from there you simply follow the online prompts.
The looks and build quality are excellent and the fact it's slightly angled upwards, like its leaning back slightly helps infuse the room with music very efficiently. There is an app that can be downloaded called Soundstudio, this gives you the ability to do things like change sound settings and add radio stations.
Two minor complaints are its only wireless,no Ethernet and that as its on 2.4ghz when my iPad is on the 5ghz it can't immediately see the AirPlay speaker. This is solved by flipping wireless off and on again. As I say minor.

A fairly nice little speaker unit. The sounds quality is good but nothing to write home about: a little lacking in bass (and what bass it has tends to be boomy rather than punchy) but no more than other speakers of the same size.

Configuring the unit is simple enough but fairly lacking in feedback - it's hard to know if you've done the right thing until the unit has had time to configure, while there's nothing to tell you you've done it wrong.
More importantly, it's not easy to realise the instructions are talking about the multicolour LED on the BACK of the unit, not the blue one on the front. Being clearer about this would have saved some frustration

The only serious annoyance with the unit is the power adapter - if you don't quite connect the UK plug properly you can bend the adapter a connectors out of place a little which gives you a loose connection. It's possible to fix, but an un-necessary annoyance that could have been solved with a better adapter.

Other than that the quality is good, it 'just works' with Airplay nicely, although I recommend leaving the unit running rather than turning it on when you want it - it's slow to reconnect and takes up to 40 seconds to be ready to play your music.

There's an aux cord option that works fine but leaves you wishing it came with a remote control - something which would be nice anyway, particularly if you're sending music from iTunes not your phone. There's also a configuration app for iOS (and possibly android) but it's only useable once your speaker is configured, and frankly it seems like an after thought. I used it once then forgot about it entirely

Overall I found it good quality (both build and sound) but a little tricky to configure and slow to connect.
