Product Description

Ideal Precision

The beard trimmer with as little as 0.2 mm steps

Switch easily between trimming and detailing with the dual-sided reversible trimmer. Just 'lock in' the trimmer wheel for the precise length you want: from as short as 0.4mm up to 10 mm.

Features

bt5260
0.2 mm Precision

You can adjust the cutting length with good precision to give you exactly the trim you want. The length settings go up in tiny 0.2 mm steps between 0.4 mm and 1 mm, then in 0.5 mm steps between 1 mm and 5 mm and finally in 1 mm steps between 5 mm and 10 mm -- giving you ideal precision with control.

bt5260
100 Per Cent Waterproof

To clean the trimmer head, simply rinse it under the tap.

bt5260
17 Lock-in Length Settings

To select your preferred trim length, just turn the zoom wheel on the handle until the length you want is displayed. Your chosen length is now 'locked in' for a precise and even trim.

bt5260
Three Day Beard Every Day

If you want an ideal three-day beard, just use the trimmer's shortest setting of 0.4 mm. For an ideally groomed longer beard, simply adjust the setting to the exact length you need.

bt5260
Beard Comb

The design of the beard comb gives you more control, allowing you to trim your beard evenly.

bt5260
Built to Last

All of Philips grooming products are built to last. They come with a worldwide voltage compatibility and they never need to be oiled.

bt5260
Dual-Sided Trimmer

Take off the adjustable length comb and there's a reversible, dual-sided precision trimmer underneath. One side is a 32mm high-performance trimmer. Turn it around and there's a 15 mm-wide precision trimmer -- ideal for getting into small spaces, like under your nose or around your mouth. It's designed to cut very close while still protecting your skin and its small size and angled design make it easy to see what you are doing for fine lines and details.

bt5260
Rechargeable and Corded Use

You get 60 minutes of cordless use after a 1-hour charge. If you run out of battery power while trimming, just plug it in and keep trimming.

bt5260
Skin-Friendly High Performance

The steel blades lightly brush against each other, so they sharpen themselves as you trim. The blades stay extra-sharp to always cut hair neatly and effectively, but have rounded blade tips and combs to prevent skin irritation.

This is an unbiased review and have been using the unit for over 4 months now.

I looked at a number before purchasing this Philip series 5000. My selection process was based on robustness durability performance and also the price.

Also let me just say if you’ve never used a beard trimmer before, then you are really going to love this. It will give you that look that is usually only exhibited by the most sought-after Hollywood stars! You cannot compare this to using a razor or scissors for achieving a perfect shape to your stubble.

This is a totally waterproof model which really does make a huge difference. You can simply place the whole unit under the tap to wash it and pat it dry clean without having to worry about water ingress damaging the unit. It is a very stylish unit with a lovely velvety looking blue trim black details and a gold section to the thumb wheel. It does not look shabby at all on the bathroom shelf as some units do so this may help if you have a very particular wife or girlfriend!

The head is also removable which allows for cleaning of fine hairs which may become entangled in the mechanism below.

There is a very easy thumbwheel setting to adjust the length of hairs this is based on millimetres. The operation of the thumbwheel moves the grate at the top of the head of the unit so that the blades move to and from your skin to the specified level.

Now for the performance and use. I have to say and this may sound little odd but trimmer performance is so linked to your face shape. For example I have a very angled jawline and have to pull my skin in a few different directions in order to get the closest shave!

Well, I'll preface this with some perspective: have been using a variety of beard trimmers for 10 years. I only clean shave for funerals, weddings, and the occasional black tie party, depending on the host (that applies to weddings too). This is demonstrated by the fact that last time I clean shaved, I was asked multiple times if I was coming down with the flu. I would describe my beard as medium-to-thick, more on the thick side. This is somewhat of a silver lining as my head hair is medium-to-thin, more on the thin side. Such is life.

Previous trimmer: Babyliss i-stubble 7890u (known in some traps as the 7895u).

The short of it (no pun intended) is that this beard trimmer only trims neatly, effectively, and evenly at the 0.8mm setting and below. I would equate this with a 1-2 day growth. If you set this bad boy to trim at 1.0mm or above, oh my does it kick up a fuss. Too short in some areas, too long in others. Multiple passes to get anywhere. Keep in mind I stuck with this trimmer for a few months trying all manner of technique, so this isn't a knee-jerk reaction. I like to keep my beard at around a 4-5 day growth, which is around 2.4-3.0mm.

If you want an even, fast, precise shave of anything longer than a day's growth, this is not the device for you. I would recommend the Babyliss 7890u though with some hesitation, as the comb on my device broke after about 2 years of use. I will most likely now go for the upgraded Babyliss 7898u though cannot comment on its quality at this stage.

I write this because as a beard connoisseur, I wish I read a review like this before purchase. I would propose a re-classification of device categories: beard trimmer-off-er; and beard length maintainer. The BT5260 most certainly falls into the former category.

2 stars.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a well made and ergononically sound trimmer. It has 17 settings and it's a doddle to switch between them using the rotating adjuster on the handle (although it looks like a digital display, it's not). I use it without any of the attachments and it leaves me with about 2-3 days worth of stubble. I have quite an aggressive stubble but this cuts through 2-3 weeks' worth of growth with ease and gives an even shave. The head is rotatable and when rotated there's a smaller head for refined trimming purposes. It takes about 90 minutes to charge from empty and the battery life is extremely impressive and lasts long enough for six complete trims.

For the past 18 months I've been using a BaByliss trimmer that cost £25 and it cuts no better or worse than this one. However, the BaByliss trimmer needs recharging after each trim and the build quality is inferior to this - I'm quite confident that this trimmer can withstand plenty more wear and tear.

In short, there are cheaper alternatives but if you value an effortless cut, a very long lasting battery and a superior build quality, then this is the beard trimmer to get.

This is my first trimmer. I use it mainly with 0.4mm, so that the grey hair in the moustache is not very obvious! Using it for 3 times a week for the past 6 months and no issues. I guess the battery life might just be 30 minutes or so. When I bought, the price was £60 while now it is only £38. Thoroughly recommended.

It works. Will it last? Can't tell.

Unfortunately, when you open it, the experience is a bit of a let down. The digital setting display is actually a sticker, it's not digital. The mechanism to move the settings are simply a mechanical ratchet, which is fine and should last. The device weighs a reasonable amount, probably because of the 60min battery.

The precision is a gimmick. The grille head that determines the length of cut is made of plastic; the teeth of it are thin plastic and therefore flex and move, so you can forget the tiny increments. Basically, it allows a nice close 1 or 2 day stubble. Crank it up a few notches to get a noticeable change. I'd prefer to see a stronger plastic, or metal guard. You end up finding your ideal setting and stick with it.

The device is long and cumbersome, you will find your self holding it in odd positions to work around the contours of your face. The grille/guard is removable - it's a squeeze and pull, and I cannot imagine the plastic catches will last long if I keep removing it. Once removed, it reveals the trimmer blades, allowing a close trim, for some 12 o clock shadow. Turn the head to get the thin trimmer, if you want to neaten some edges.

Yes, it's washable. But I don't really see the need. I've had trimmers that are not waterproof and rarely needed a clean. Simply a dry soft brush does the job. If you're adamant on getting waterproof, there are others out there like the QG3322; I'd just choose the cheapest.

To mention price, I don't see the value of its RRP; but if you can get it circa half price or less, then maybe it's worth a punt.
