Great Sound from DAB+ Radio Anywhere
Tune in to Philips portable radio with DAB+ reception for clear sound. Its classic desktop design as well as DAB+ and DAB FM pre-set stations with quick scan DAB+ radio make this the ideal radio companion.
DAB and FM Compatible for a Complete Radio Experience
DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) digital radio is a new way of broadcasting radio, in addition to FM analogue transmission via a network of terrestrial transmitters. It provides listeners with more choices and information delivered in clear, crackle-free sound quality.
The technology allows the receiver to lock on to the strongest signal it can find. With DAB digital stations there are no frequencies to remember, and sets are tuned by station name, so there is no retuning on the move.
Large Backlit LCD Display for Easy Viewing in Low Light
Backlit LCD display ensures easy viewing and operation in low light conditions, and provides clear information at a glance.
Stereo Headphone Jack for Better Personal Music Enjoyment
Connect your own headphones for a more personal listening experience whenever you want it. You can enjoy your favourite movie or music in great sound without disturbing others by connecting your headphones to the player.

I knocked off one star because it does eat the batteries (as do many other dab radios, i use rechargeables, but at least you can use off the shelf batteries unlike some Pure efforts!) and i think it could do with an auxiliary in port (like my other Phillps DAB). However i will say that this radio looks brilliant (resplendent in the Union Flag), it has good sound for it's size, it's easy to use and it has reasonable build quality (apart from the slight afterthought retractable support). But at this price the outstanding feature has to be the preset buttons on top. Again with many manufacturers you have to move up the range to have this simple but time saving feature which means that all the members of your household can switch to their favourite station at the push of a button- winner!
We've got this set up in the kitchen and it took about 90 seconds to unpack, turn on, scan for channels and set 6 presets. It's a wonder people buy fm radios anymore. DAB knocks spots off of FM quality and this is so easy to use.
The sound is excellent, the unit is nice and compact and has a little pull out stand at the bottom for stability. I've had a John Lewis DAB radio/iPhone dock before and the sound quality is so much better on this.
A couple of tips for anyone buying this:
1) Scan with the aerial extended. You'll get more channels.
2) For presets 6 - 10, hold down the 5+ button and press 1 for 6, 2 for 7 and so on.
Excellent. So glad I purchased this.
Oh and delivery was quick etc as I come to expect from Amazon. Keep up the good work, guys!
Some people have complained about short battery life but this is common to most DAB radios, the conversion of the signal from digital and the backlit display both use a lot of juice. My solution is to use cheap rechargeables when it is not convenient to plug into mains. DAB radios are getting more efficient, but at the moment you would have to spend a lot more than £25 to get one that lasts longer than a few hours on a set of batteries.
My only 'complaint' is that it is a bit plasticky, eg, the battery cover and stand seem a bit flimsy, but to be honest I'm being very picky. Sitting on my shelf in the kitchen it looks really good. For the price it is one of the best value DAB radios around. Particularly so when you realise some high street chains are selling this for around £60. (Although I think this is a sales ploy so they can advertise it as 'half price' when they have a sale!)
The sound is clear and not crackly or tinny. You can preset up to 10 radio stations which was not that hard to do. I do admit that it would have been better if the volume control had been as a separate button, rather than being part of the menu/scan one. But all things considered for the price, it is a good product.
I use it plugged in to the mains, so I cannot comment on the how long the batteries last. If you are a more serious music lover, then perhaps you might want a more expensive type. I love this radio, so much so, I bought another for my office.
I do believe that the price of under £40.00p is the correct one and I would not want to pay much more than that.
