At this price point I was looking at this or the comparable Dyson. It has no problem cleaning my apartment's air and easily detects spikes throughout the day.
Two issues here : there is no app, it is not a smart home appliance so is not future proofed if you're looking to ensure you don't have to upgrade quite soon. It also does not have a multi directional fan. It does do a good job but there are times I'd like to use it like the dyson which cycles an area.
For the price - it is priced as this year's premium model, whereas the truth is that it is a premium model 1-2 years old. When it comes time to buy new filters which are not cheap I might add -- I'll instead purchase a different air purifier with expected premium price functionality.
I would not recommend this product for this price, but it does do a good 'basic' job of purifying the air in my apartment. Should it be £50-80 less I would recommend it.
In use when on the Auto setting, which I found the best for everyday use, the unit is very quiet in operation but this does change if you decide to crank it up to one of the higher fan settings then it does become more noisy and it would be unreasonable to expect otherwise . When Auto or Allergen setting is used, and in most cases you would not need to use any other, the unit is almost silent. The device looks very modernistic and high-tech and will be a talking point for anyone entering the room. The build quality and design is to the usual Philips high standard. The User Guide is to the usual low standard as once again Philips have produced a hefty multi language tome full of hard to understand and poorly labelled illustrations which are almost impossible to follow.
As to how well it works, I can only say that since first switching it on I have had no breathing problems, but it will be later in the year when the pollen season gets fully underway before I can decide properly just how effective it is.
Like other reviewers I am concerned about the cost and availability of replacement filters, of which there are there are three in the machine. Although it can be over ridden by a complex key input sequence, in normal use the device is disabled when the filter lifetime is judged to have expired. Potential buyers need to know much the filter will cost and how often they are likely to be needed. I suspect the fillers will be neither inexpensive nor long lasting.Read more ›
With regards to day to day use, I find that it's ability to detect air quality quite impressive, I was doing DIY in other rooms and the air quality monitor was able to detect the high levels of dust and debris, and then act up on that information (the ring in the middle goes red when the quality is particularly bad, but this quickly reduces into the purples and blue levels, so it must be performing it's intended task)
In terms of the aesthetics, visually this device looks very cool and has an almost 2001: a space oddessy-esque look to it, which I find appealing, however, it is quite a large device, so you will need to make space for it, somewhere convenient that won't get in your way.
Overall, after a few weeks of use, I am pleased with this purifier, it's worked better than previous purifiers I've owned (my last one was a Vax, still pretty good, but quite loud), I like that there's a lot of options in terms of setting running times, power settings, and I particularly like the 'AL' setting which will adjust the power level to handle the current detected air quality.
Would recommend for someone who suffers from dust allergies or asthma, and maybe has less than ideal air quality in places where they sleep and work.
Can definietly recoment this product especially when you have little baby.
As an asthmatic, who suffers from rhinitis symptoms too, I can be quite disturbed by the air quality in the home. At certain times of year this is made worse by having lots of tree pollen being released along my road, which aggravates my symptoms substantially. It is intensely frustrating to spend half the night feeling a combination of snotty, and wheezy. It does not make for a restful slumber! As such, I have enjoyed using an air purifier for quite some time, and become quite accustomed to having it in my bedroom at night. When pollen count is very high, I carry it downstairs, to use during the day, as it definitely helps to alleviate the symptoms.
This particular model is exceptionally easy to move around, and weighs in at a surprisingly light 10kg. It is also very quiet, unless it ramps up a gear in order to deal with poor air quality. Even when it is running full-blast, it isn't particularly annoying. It is such a constant fan-type noise, that it just becomes akin to a white-noise effect, and doesn't disturb sleep. This is something I find particularly important, because like many parents, I sleep very lightly.
The unit arrives with the filters in place, but these need to be uninstalled so that you can remove the packaging from them. This is something that could be potentially overlooked, so I feel that this is worth mentioning here.Read more ›
