A wealth of online Apps, videos to rent and catch-up TV.
With a wide range of Apps available you can rent films directly on your TV from online video stores, watch catch-up TV from your favourite channels that you may have missed out on and stay connected to friends and family through social networking Apps. You can also stay up-to date with the latest news from around the World and surf the Internet all on your smart Philips TV. The new, friendly user interface allows you to easily find the App you want quickly. You can organise the Apps in the order that most suits your needs, so if you use the social networking Apps the most, you can set these to appear on the first page, so you no longer need to switch between pages, making it even faster and convenient to use. As well as the order of Apps, it is easy to remove Apps that you no longer use or want. The App store continues to grow with more Apps being added all the time so you can sit back, relax and be entertained. To quickly and easily start up the smart TV interface there is a button on the remote control, so with one push of a button you will have a host of Apps waiting for you.
This TV is Wi-Fi ready, meaning that you can experience the rich selection of online services with the Philips Wi-Fi USB Adapter (PTA01) for Smart TV. Simply insert the adapter into the USB connector at the side of the TV and connect your TV directly to your home network. This wireless adapter is sold separately and will help reduce the quantity of wires and clutter in your room. You can however still connect to the online world through the Ethernet port on the back of the TV. Once connected, you can navigate to your preferred online content with your TV’s remote control.
Stay in Control.
Control the TV with your smart phone, tablet or keyboard.
In addition to the standard remote control included in the box, you can also connect your other smart devices to your Philips TV and control the TV with ease. Ever been sat on your sofa and your remote control is just out of reach or you can't find it? Now you can use your smart device to change channels, adjust the volume and more. Simply download the ‘MyRemote’ App from either the Apple App-Store or the Andriod marketplace and you are ready to go. The App’s user interface is designed to be simple to use and friendly. What's more, if you have a compatible Philips Blu-ray player or Home Theatre System this App can also be used to control those too, so instead of having multiple remote controls you now have your smart device. To make controlling your TV even more convenient you can also connect a wireless keyboard (compatible with USB-HID standard - the majority of keyboards are). The keyboard’s wireless adapter plugs into the USB port on the TV and once connected gives you even more flexibility to type comfortably and with ease, so if you are using your TV to visit websites or write on social media sites it can be done much quicker.
Sharing made easy.
Share photos, music and movies on your TV.
Share photos, music and movies wirelessly through DLNA compatible devices such as your smartphone, tablet or computer straight to your Philips smart TV. More and more people are using their phones and other smart devices to capture moments on video or photo; instead of having this content restricted to that one device you can display the content on the large screen of your TV. This will allow you to share the videos, photos or music with the whole family and your friends when you are sat together. In order to allow sharing between devices you will need to download the 'MyRemote' App from the Apple App-Store or Andriod Marketplace which is quick and simple. Once downloaded to your smart device the on-screen menus are simple to use, user-friendly and set-up to allow instant sharing. If you have content stored on your computer you no longer need to connect it with wires to your tv, simply sit back, relax and connect through the DLNA technology. As well as this wireless option, this TV has a host of connectivity options which will be covered below.
Find, schedule and pause TV.
With the built-in Electronic Program Guide (EPG) you can find and schedule your favourite shows. The Electronic Programme Guide allows you to view 8 days worth of programming across channels, and once you find the show you are interested in you can set a reminder. You can also get a program synopsis which gives you an overview of the show for further details, as well as the duration and start times so you can organise your viewing around your day. To pause your TV you will need a connected storage device and is ideal if you are interrupted by a telephone call or someone at the door during your show.
Full HD LED
Full HD TV with Pixel Plus HD for better details and clarity.
The most advanced LED lighting technology in this Full HD 1080p LED TV combines an eye-catching minimalistic design with stunning image quality. Full HD delivers real-life detail which is perfect for watching any content with stunning picture quality. The images are more detailed than HD-Ready TVs because the picture is made up of 1080 horizontal lines, versus 720 horizontal lines for HD-Ready TVs. So if you are watching sports, movies or playing games, characters and scenes spring to live. On top of that, LED lighting technology does not contain any hazardous materials so it is more environmentally friendly compared to other older technologies. Thus, with LED backlights and Full HD you can enjoy low power consumption, high brightness, incredible contrast, sharpness and vibrant colours. Combined with this impressive LED lighting technology and Full HD, this TV also has Pixel Plus HD technology. This innovative feature detects artefacts and noise from any connected sources, from multimedia to standard definition TV and reduces them, ensuring that the picture is clear and razor-sharp. Therefore you can be confident that with this Philips TV you will experience great picture quality, great design and a great entertainment experience.
200Hz Perfect Motion Rate
200Hz Perfect Motion Rate (PMR) creates extreme motion sharpness for clear and vibrant images in fast action scenes, perfect for movies and sports. Combined with the technology above your viewing experience is further enhanced. The new Philips PMR standard shows the combined visible effect of the panel refresh rate, HD Natural Motion and a unique processing formula, for unprecedented motion sharpness and overall picture quality. You may have experienced before when watching a sporting event or fast action scenes that the movement on your older TV is not smooth, is blurry and fast movement judders across in phases rather than being smooth, with this technology the movement will be smoother and more realistic.
USB and HDMI connections
USB and HDMI slots for fantastic multimedia playback.
The USB slots on this TV allow you to view jpeg photos, listen to mp3 music files and watch video files from most USB sticks. So when you backup or save content to these devices you can easily play them on your TV. Simply plug the USB into one of the slots on your TV and access the multimedia content using the easy on-screen content browser. You can now view and share your videos, photos and music on your TV. This TV also has a host of HDMI connections. A HDMI cable is a single cable that carries both picture and audio signals from your devices to your TV, avoiding cable clutter. It carries uncompressed signals, ensuring the highest quality from source to screen. With several HDMI ports included you will be able to connect numerous devices to the TV. The HDMI also has Philips Easylink, this enables you to only use one remote control to perform most operations on your TV, DVD, Blu-Ray, set top box or home theatre system, so you no longer need several remote controls next to you. In addition to USB and HDMI inputs, you can also connect the TV to your computer using the PC-input socket allowing you to use it as a monitor as well.

Software controlled menus are a bit buggy.
I bought this television because Philips were recommended by my local hi-fi shop who know what they're talking about when it comes to buying the best. They assured me that Philips televisions have the most natural and realistic picture compared with other brands.
I would say I'm generally very happy with the picture quality, after considerable playing around with the settings. I would recommend anyone who has got one of these TVs and wants the most natural looking picture to: turn off HD Natural Motion, turn off Dynamic Contrast, turn off Colour Enhancement, set Sharpness to zero and set Colour to about 50. The picture looks excellent from HD sources and very good from SD sources once the settings above have been made. It looks very natural and realistic, clean and crisp and the picture processing is excellent meaning no noticeable glitches, artifacts, skipping or blurring.
The only negative with the picture is the lack of contrast. Blacks do not look black but a deep grey. While most of the time this is not noticeable, dark scenes do suffer. Having previously had a high-spec CRT TV, this is taking some getting used to. Note that none of the picture settings can improve this, it is a characteristic of the display itself.
The sound is reasonable. It's a bit weak and lacks bass but all the flat screen TVs on the market are the same in this respect. What can you expect for a television that's just over an inch thick? At least the Philips has a sub-woofer that adds some bass.
The Smart TV application is ok, though the only real worthwhile apps at the moment are iPlayer and YouTube. You can tell it's Philips first venture into this realm as the whole thing is a bit clunky and very slow.
If I've got one real gripe with the TV it's with the software which has got quite a few niggles. When initially turned on, the TV reacts very slowly to button presses and if you want to use the Smart apps you'll have to wait around for about a minute while it connects and gets going. The programme guide is pretty poor, very basic and sometimes displaying the wrong channels, missing out programme information and not always selecting the channel it's been asked to. The BBC red button doesn't always work and sometimes when pressing a button on the remote you never quite know if the TV is going to respond. This is all after upgrading to the latest software. Let's hope some or all of these issues will be addressed in later software updates.
Overall though it is a good television and certainly the picture quality is very good which is what I bought it for. The screen surface is slightly matt finished and so not overly reflective and the power consumption is very low.
- Very good picture quality, especially in HD
- Reasonable sound quality
- Low power consumption
- Lack of contrast
- Requires some careful adjustment to get the best picture
