Brilliant! Thank you Phil Vickery for giving me back my enthusiasm for cooking. I have always loved cooking and baking, making my own bread, cakes & biscuits, however, I was diagnosed with coeliac disease around 3 years ago and found simply swapping ordinary plain & SR flours for the gluten free versions simply didn't work. I bought a few books but the results were so erratic I gave up, particularly when trying bread. I tried different recipes & different flours but nothing was particularly palatable. A friend gave me Phil's 'Gluten free Baking'; I tried some of his recipes in that and was delighted with my results. I then bought this & I have just made the soft milk bread rolls - the closest to 'real' bread I have tasted since my diagnosis. All of his recipes work, giving really lovely results that my non-coeliac family & friends enjoy as much as I do. I thoroughly recommend this book as the best gluten free cookbook I have tried. (And I've tried a lot!)
Since posting this, I've noticed a review saying the ingredients are hard to find, I live in a rural area and some things that would be basic in a city definitely are a little harder to find, but worth it as the recipes are so good. With regard to the different flours, most that Phil uses are available on prescription in my area. However, I am aware that other parts of the country have had their prescription choices reduced or even abolished but if you are able to obtain gluten free foods on prescription, it would be worth looking to see if the flours are available in your area.

As a household of two coeliacs I do find that I`m always at a lose as to what to cook on a daily basis.
Especially when it comes to puddings, cakes and most especially breads.
Most shop bought cakes and breads are for the most part not very appetizing.
I find when baking as a coeliac quite a scary thing as there are loads of different flours you can use and knowing which one Is best, or even which blend of several for the recipe you are following can be very daunting.
This book contains a few different flour blends you can make yourself that will be used further on in the book for various recipes. I find this great as different types of recipes work better with different types of blends and this section takes all the guesswork out of the equation making it a far easier process to follow.
There is also a great section on making different types of pastry which is easy to read and follow.
There are loads of recipes you can follow and each recipe gives a preparation and cooking time so you can roughly know how long each meal can take from start to finish which in this fast paced world where we all seem to have limited time is great when choosing what to cook.
There is wide range of recipes that would suit nearly everyone's tastes and for the most part most of the ingredients are either readily available or what you would probably already have in your kitchen anyway. [ I do hate cookbooks where half of the ingredients are hard to find or even worse something you have never heard of.]

All in all this is a great addition to anyone that for whatever reason has to eat gluten free and want to widen their range of taste experiences and not feel like they have to avoid those sweet treats they have always loved. I have used several of the recipes already all of which have been met with great enthusiasm by my family.

This is the third Phil vickery gluten free book I have bought. All the recipes I have used so far have turned out perfect. My daughter has just been diagnosed as coeliac and she thought her life was over because she loves her food. So these books have made it possible to realise she can still enjoy bread cakes etc. Thank you Phil

Having just been diagnosed as having Coeliac disease and not yet received an appointment with a dietician I decided to sort things out for myself. After firstly joining Coeliac.co.uk (invaluable for anyone who suffers from Coeliac Disease) and getting lots of useful information I then decided I would need some practical advice regarding recipes, so who better than Phil Vickery. This book is recommended by Coeliac.co.uk and is full of a variety of recipes and different ideas, a few of which I have tried. The bread recipes are particularly good.
