BCAA’s are Branched Chain Amino Acids consisting of 3 essential amino acids Leucine, Iso-Leucine, and Valine. They are considered essential amino acids because human beings cannot survive unless these amino acids are present in the diet. Together they comprise approximately 1/3 of human muscle tissue. All top quality protein sources will supply all 9 essential amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, which has been shown to increase lean muscle mass. BCAA’s have long been popular with athletes from a variety of sectors, involving strength and power, along with endurance and stamina. BCAA supplements are convenient to use and should be taken around the training window for maximum effect. PhD recommends using BCAA’s before, during and after intense exercise.

Most protien powders have a daily amount of BCAAS added to them.
BCAA's are very popular with athletes who use strength, power, endurance and stamina … BCAA's are branched chain Amino Acids and consist of three essential Amino Acids … Leucine, Iso-Leucine and Valine. These are considered the building blocks of protein and are considered an essential part of your diet. It is recommended that to get the maximum benefit they should be taken before, during and after exercise.
My eighteen year old son is an amateur boxer who takes his training very seriously indeed … he runs six miles daily and trains in his boxing gym for around six hours every day. He has been taking these BCAA capsules for a little under two weeks.
It is recommended that for maximum effect you take five capsules with water before you start training, five during your training and another five after your training. This amounts to fifteen capsules daily … which is an enormous amount of capsules. I don't quite understand why the amino acids cannot be condensed down into a smaller amount of capsules.
Anyway my son has been taking these capsules religiously before, during and after training and he hasn't really noticed any difference in his endurance, strength etc. … in fact the only thing he has noticed is indigestion which is probably due to the amount of capsules and excess liquid that he needs to drink to be able to swallow the very 'large' capsules (2cm x 1cm).
In summing up … my son has decided that he will not be continuing to take this particular variety of BCAA's and will be looking for a powder form that he can mix into his protein shake. Also the 195 capsules only last for thirteen days (taken at the rate of fifteen per day) which works out quite an expensive supplement over the course of a full month.
As part of a committed training schedule and dietary plan you may have the appetite to take 5 capsules before, 5 during and 5 after your work out.
It's not like they are tiny either - you need an amount of fluid to get them down.
Unsure why there are so many - is it not possible to get the required dose in less pills?
If you can't fit them into your work out in real time another option is to take 8 before and 7 after.
So 15 per work out and 195 a bottle - that's 13 work outs before you need another bottle.
Packaged and presented in a way that exudes quality, if you can stand all the swallowing along with other supplements you might be taking, these may help you reach your training goals.
As for this product, for me it is not great. 5 capsules before exercise, 5 during and 5 after. I'm surprised people have the patience for that, and although I am fine with tablets, by the 15 I was choking them down a bit. In the future I'll stick to the powdered versions.
