Three lighting levels available: - MAX POWER, power prioritized - STANDARD, power/burn time balance - MAX AUTONOMY: burn time prioritized Red lighting mode preserves night vision (red LED) Two independent switches simplify usage: One for lighting mode (REACTIVE LIGHTING or CONSTANT LIGHTING), the other to choose between the three lighting levels; Lock function to avoid accidentally turning it on during transit or storage. I've just taken this for an offroad run, accompanied by somebody with the Tikka 2. Although the Tikka 2 on full brightness produces enough light to run with, the Tikka RXP clearly produces a far brighter pool of light. In you immediate surroundings, on dry trails, you may as well be in daylight. The clever bit is that if you need to look further ahead the headlamp throws a decent beam, but when you are only looking at something nearby you are not swamped by all that extra light, as the headtorch adjusts the light output to suit the conditions. That way you can just concentrate on running, and not worry about seeing where you are going. I have yet to see how well the adaptive bit copes with proper mid winter conditions when wet mud absorbs most of the light thrown at it, nor how long the battery lasts in real world use.

Brilliant in both senses of the word. This gets used everyday, for locking up at night, feeding the animals and for roller skiing on winter nights. Its robust, easy to use, holds it charge, and best of all, gives wonderful light. If you want a good head torch - buy this one.

I toyed with which headlamp to purchase for ages, really doing my research. I have two Petzl headlamps already, a Tikkina 2 and a Pixa 1 but also have a cheaper Realian Nimbus. The Petzl lamps I have are great quality but the output is pretty low whereas the Nibus has a great output but is better for running / longer range as it produces more of a spotlight than a distributed light for close up viewing. I wanted a lamp that would be between the two and last me a while too and was very tempted to go with a LED Lenser alike some of my colleagues at work but I feel the LED Lenser headlamps whilst being incredibly bright to produce a spotlight rather than a distributed light which is better for confined space working. Anyway the Tikka RXP!!
Its an incredible headlamp, I know it costs a bit but its worth every penny. I am so glad I went for it in the end. The reactive lighting is better than I expected, it works so well. I have sadly been taking the dog for a walk every night since i got this just so I can use the headlamp and haven't even had a chance to use it at work yet!! All the features have been so well thought out if you need to use more than the reactive setting?!
My advice would be to go for it, you wont regret it! Its light and comfortable, not bulky at all and the micro usb charge port means you are likely to have lots of leads laying around already to use to charge it with.

O for Awesome these are not as heavy as the next model up (which my brother has) and although not as powerful it still kicks ass over anything else Ive ever used. I ran the 3 peaks in these and was impressed with battery life, I could even use it with a gopro strapped to my head too.

Deeply disappointed with mine. I run at night on paths and trails. The sensor switches the pencil beam on almost immediately so that all you see on the ground in front of you as you run is a bright patch of light about a foot across, destroying your night vision but not illuminating the track properly. The sensor seems to be set wrong. The spot beam shouldn't come on until you look up. You have to switch the torch to manual non-reactive to get a wide beam which gives you a diffuse light that makes it easy to see the path.
So if you want it just for trail running it's a waste of money, the reactive feature is not useable.

The strap is wide and quite warm on your head (good for winter!), but very stable.

The programming ability when attached to the computer merely allows you to set different power levels on the reactive program. On the manual programme you can change it to diffuse light only, as well as change the power levels.

A fellow runner has the more expensive reactive NAO which actually works properly. You get a diffuse beam which changes to a diffuse long beam as you look ahead. Perfect for running. I was expecting a lower power version of this with the RXP.

It's expensive but well worth the money. Bought this mainly for dog walking as head torches mean that you're hands free for cleaning up deposits. Has 3 power modes all of which shed enough light to see by but in full power mode, it may as well be day light. Battery lasts well too between charges (one of the main reasons I bought the RXP was because it had a rechargeable battery) and the reactive light feature is surprisingly useful.

Best head torch ever. We live in the country where there is no light for miles. My husband is an outdoor instructor so bought this for hiking. But I 'borrow' this head torch all the time to take the dogs for a walk, go for a jog and Pop out to the shed to get clothes from the drier in the winter. Seriously brilliant. So we bought one for my Father for Christmas as he is a farmer and needs to go out in all hours for lambing. He was shocked by how good it is. You can see far, and clearly. Well worth every penny!

Lightweight and stays firmly in place. Very good light coverage both brightness and scope of beam. Extends the running options for those of us who don't like pounding the streets just so we have light! Highly recommend. Good battery life too.
