The central character Peter, as a young boy, lives in a small village with his parents. As he grows up he feels the village to be too parochial for him and he leaves home as a young man to see the world.
He is brought back to the village as an older man by circumstances and sees the village through different eyes, and appreciates it in a way that humbles him.
I won't give away the plot; in fact the story is simple without twists and turns.
The book however was for me completely absorbing and beautifully written.
I'm sure it won't be everyone's cup of tea but I hope someone loves it as much as I did.
