Product Description

From the Author

The first in-depth analysis of a unique double act
Some comedians have already been written about to death (Monty Python's Flying Circus &c.) Others are only interesting when performing (Rowan Atkinson...) Now at last, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore - whose work so hugely influenced the above-named comic giants and many more - have received their first proper critical appreciation. 'Pete & Dud' is a provocative and rather moving book about a unique double act which doesn't just reheat old anecdotes. If you love Pete and Dud, and especially if you're a fan of Derek & Clive - Cook and Moore's ghastly 70s proto-punk incarnations who never received the critical attention they deserved - this is the book you might have been waiting for. (By the Comedy critic of the London Evening Standard.)

I really enjoyed this book. As you can imagine, there is not a great deal of Cook & Moore material available in the US and I was delighted to find this book. It is nicely illustrated, well written, and informative (but not in a boring "In 1966, this and this and this happened" way). I have to agree with the author's comment about his book being provocative and moving - it's very sad at times. A very good book about two interesting, talented men.

I was unsure as to whether I was interested enough in Pete & Dud to read a whole book about them, but I was carried effortlessly along by the humour (both theirs and the author's) and the author's thought's and discussion about the two, together and individually. I was drawn in to their story and finished the book with great sympathy and respect for them both. A fitting tribute. An admirable achievement.

You'll get ten, No nonsense and rumbustious, too. For an unauthorised effort, it outscales most presumptions about that magically surreal, scatalogical, confused and ultimately celebrated duo. Come all over my train set? Any time.

I have to say that this book does not contain many new materials. However, since I am a big fan and a bit nerdy, I like the way the book is written. If you would like to read something about the couple but has no interest in digging in every biography, this book is worth reading.
