I bought this as a larger replacement for a Razer Sphex which had lasted four years and was damaged on the edges. I had these problems with the first Perixx pad so bought another in case it was a fluke - unfortunately it wasn't.
The main issue initially was that the adhesive on the back was useless - it didn't hold the pad in place, let alone stick to the desk well enough to keep the edges stuck down to prevent debris and dust from getting underneath. I tried to solve this with some 3M ReMount Spray Adhesive which does stop it from sliding around the desk and holds it in place, but as the material warps (see below) it isn't strong enough to keep it attached to the desk.
The other issue is that you cannot expose it to direct sunlight. This was not a problem for the original Sphex, but this material will lift and warp quite badly, as shown in the photos. In my case, even the parts at the back of the mat that have not been exposed to direct sunlight are lifting, despite the additional adhesive (although the effects are less pronounced than the parts that are exposed to direct sunlight). I have tried clamping it in place to minimize the warping, but it didn't have any appreciable effect after a week.
As both pads had the same issues, they get a 1 out of 5 from me. I'm currently waiting for the Sphex v2 to be released, the "Standard" size is 270x380mm, different dimensions from this Perixx product at 400x320mm, but should be good enough for me.
The mouse pad's only saving grace was that it came with a cardboard backing in the packaging, meaning there was no annoying curl that needed to be ironed out; as is the case with many new mouse pads.
Came rolled up in a good sturdy box.
Unrolled it and laid flat straight out of the box (no curling up or wrinkles).
Nice neat edges (no stitching), just a clean flat edge.
Fits trackpad, keyboard, and mouse, and provides softer area for forearms and wrists to rest.
Good material surface.
Good rubber base.
Brand new rubber is a bit smelly (almost fishy), but Im hoping that will subside. So Im not going to mark down for that.
Mouse feels a little sluggish, but I am used to mousing directly on a laminate desk, so its to be expected. I just need to get used to it.
My advice though, go for the bigger size. So many times I've used a mouse mat in the past and if you start the mouse off in the wrong place you run out of mat. A4 should be big enough for most people - that's about all I use of the A3 size I bought. But hey, the price is just fine too.
Its great to have the whole desk as a mouse pad and it means our slightly scratched desk looks as new due to it being covered. Also handy if you ever drop drinks as it will soak some up before it gets to your electrics. Nice that they are cheap enough to just replace it when it gets a bit tatty.
Packaging is worth more that the actually mouse pad. If it had a little more stick it would work as intended.
While some users prefer hard pads, I prefer the softer options as I find they tend to last longer. I have had this pad for several months and it is still in perfect condition, so I expect this to last for a very long time. The build quality is great and the fabric doesn't feel "scratchy", which would have been a deal breaker for me.
