At one point I so wanted to shake Gabriel and scream at him to fight instead of treating Natasha the way he did. His reasons seemed quite weak until towards the end of the book, when I not only forgave him but so very much wanted to hug him too. Natasha wasn't totally innocent and the pair of them could ignore an issue and not talk about it, or read too much into a situation that wasn't really there. And wow did these lead to one angst filled, hope filled, despair filled, love filled story.
It felt different to the first story as the relationship was already there. However it also felt very similar in that there is so much more to the book than just Tash and Gabriel's story. We only 'hear' their voices but Adrianna, Danielle, Josh, Josh's parents, Michelle and Darcy all play big roles in this book, along with a couple of other new characters.
The story is both complex and yet startlingly simple and it kept me gripped - I even got annoyed when my family tried to talk to me whilst I was reading it! Once I started the book I simply couldn't put it down until I had read it all. I loved it from start to finish - even when it made me sad and despairing. Part of me would have liked a few more chapters from Gabriel's POV but then another part of me wonders if the book would work so well if we did hear more from him.
I can't wait for Book 3 and will be one-clicking it as soon as it available to buy.
Gabriel is an incredibly gifted artist and has been sought after to paint people's portraits, despite the fact that he was only partially sighted. Now that he has had corrective surgery he has perfect vision, but has lost the special something that made his paintings perfect. He tries not to focus on that because he's about to become a father to twins.
Natasha is his girlfriend, she met Gabriel when she had him paint her portrait. She's in remission from cancer and is unable to have children herself. Thankfully her sister, Adrianna, offered to be a surrogate mother, using frozen eggs from Natasha, and an anonymous donor from the sperm bank.
Their lives are perfect, and their excitement about the pending birth of the twins knows no bounds. Unfortunately, instead of the happiness the babies should bring to their lives, everything starts to go wrong. The babies are perfect and well, but Adrianna becomes a big thorn in the couple's side. The problem is, only Gabe can see what she is doing, Natasha can't. She just thinks Gabe is being paranoid, and isn't understanding at all. More often than not siding with her sister. Add to that Gabe's frustrations with his art, and the constant worry about Natasha's cancer coming back, and it's no surprise the situation is tense for him.
Can our couple get past all the obstacles that seem are coming at them since the babies were born, including the fact that Tash's ex boyfriend is on the scene in a big way? Will Natasha finally see what Adrianna is up to. Will she realise that while she has been focusing only on the babies that Gabe is dealing with a lot of issues?
What I love about the authors is how they can get you to run a gamut of emotions over each plot and over each character, never knowing what you should feel. If you aren't laughing, or feeling happy, you are tearing up, if you aren't doing that you are getting angry, or frustrated. I can't go into detail about all that is driving a wedge between our couple, spoilers and all, suffice to say, it's all very believable, and at no point did I feel like the ending would be a foregone conclusion. As for each person, take for example Adrianna, one minute you love her and think she is fabulous, the next you hate her, but then later you think she's not so bad, only to go on thinking that perhaps she is. I love it. Each character has flaws, are 'Perfectly Flawed' as it were, and whether they can overcome those flaws, or whether they revel in them makes this book an exciting, intriguing read. Once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down, the storyline kept me hooked from start to finish, and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers' copy of this book.
Any way as this is the continuation of Gabriel and Natasha story, so please ensure that you have read Perfect Imperfections first.
Their lives have taken a new direction and in many respects, it is one that should make them the happiest they have ever been but not everything is as it should be for the pair of them and they find themselves facing a mountain of uncertainty and in its wake, a plethora of problems that if they don’t navigate carefully, will have the capacity to derail everything they have been working towards.
I thought the authors were very articulate with their descriptions of what exactly was going on and how those events were driving a wedge between the two of them, they had to face some harsh truths but in order to get to where they needed to be they also had to learn to pull in the same direction…instead of allowing every single minute detail to blow up in their faces and drive them apart.
For as much as I can say that I loved Natasha and Gabriel, I can honestly say that I thoroughly disliked Josh, Natasha’s ex.
He had his place in the story, yes, I get that but he got on my nerves and while I knew that they couldn’t turn their back on his offer, I also knew that his offer was not made without ulterior motives. He knew that his presence was going to bring a whole new level of complication to the two of them and for me that was distasteful…but deviously clever on the part of the authors.
So, with the hurdles that continue to mount, can Gabriel and Natasha navigate their new lives and find a happy ever after or will their misery continue?
Fantastically well written this is a book not to be missed.
