About the Author
Cardeno C.—CC to friends—is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few awwws into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset. It makes the stories really enjoyed read as you know there will be a perfect ending after a lot of seriously steamy sex and always a good dose of communication.
This one takes two popular tropes and mashes them together seamlessly to give the reader a fake boyfriend romance with a rock star musician.
None of the drama comes from the relationship development, which is also beautifully drawn out as JJ realises he hasn't ever connected with anyone before because of the surface first world he's lived in.
This could technically be a gay for you romance as well but, for me, it was more a case of Reg and JJ each finding their person through friendship and trust.
There's also an awesome bonus scene set a couple of years later which is beyond cute. Lovely cover too.
Cardeno C Audiobooks and I, have a great work ethnic – I do the decorating whilst the Author keeps me entertained with the latest release on Audiobooks – my house has never looked so good!
Normally, I always read the book first, decide what’s needs decorating and then we are off! However, this didn’t happen for me this time, I went straight to the Audiobook, so I only knew what to expect from the blurb (which immediately appealed to me). Now I have to say that Cardeno has this amazing knack of picking the right actor for narrating the books, Charlie David had a great, clear voice. The timing was perfection and managed to convey the correct emotions when called to do so.
But I had a slight problem and I have to tell you that it was my problem not the Author’s. I’ll try to explain and what my solution was to arrive at the 4.5*. I wasn’t feeling the normal “fluffiness” that I always associate with this Author and the reason, in my opinion at that time, was Reg. I originally thought that Reg was manipulative, he used Jeremy’s lack of affection from people that should have loved him, but basically couldn’t give a dam! and used it to his own advantage. He instilled himself in Jeremy’s life and became indispensable.
Would Jeremy have fallen in love with Reg without his machinations? I truly didn’t know!
Jeremy is a Super Rock Star, like all Rockstars, he’s unpredictable, moody and demanding – boy, is he demanding! Though straight, he needs someone as a “pretend boyfriend” (read or listen to find out why) and we are introduced to Reg and as I have already said, he becomes indispensable, but did he really love Jeremy? When I was listening, it felt a bit creepy! and there was one particular scene that really felt “ weird” because I was still hung up on the whole “does he truly love him thing” going through my head. Cardeno only ever writes HEAs, I knew that I should have more faith, but my heart said Yes! my brain, said No!
So I ended up replaying the whole Audiobook again! Listening for clues – had I missed something the first time? Was Reg a scumbag or a saviour? And my verdict? on listening the second time? Reg is Jeremy’s saviour! It was me, I really should have had more faith, listening again was wonderful, it all made sense now, I was a happy listener!
I hope this review hasn’t confused you, but I had a need to try and explain, in case any other listeners were confused, as I was at the beginning. But I have to tell you, Reg does love Jeremy!
****I would like to thank the Author for the privilege and opportunity of reviewing this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the audiobook****
Jeremy Jameson is at the peak of his music career so should be riding high on his success, but for Jeremy, life seems to have no sparkle or sizzle. For his entire life he has lived in the goldfish bowl of the spotlight due to his parent’s showbiz careers and it was a natural progression for Jeremy to carry on in the same route due to his love of music. However, every decision has been made for him both professionally and personally to ensure the money machine that his music is, remains constant. So yes, a rock star can live a sheltered life. To take stock of his life at the age of thirty-one, Jeremy takes off for a few days and finds himself in an out of the way dive bar in a small town.
Reg Moore has always been happy in his shell, he knows who he is, what he wants and how to get it. He doesn’t suffer the small stuff and is content in his life with his family supporting him. In order to live his dreams of travelling he is currently saving up all the money he can get by working as a barman in his local and who would have guessed who walked into the bar that night.
Jeremy thinks he is well disguised and finds himself having a great time shooting the time away drinking and chatting to the barman, Reg. He feels free for the first time to be himself and speak as he feels. At the end of the night, slightly the worse for wear, Reg offers him a place to sleep off his overindulgence, even after Jeremy’s stage aloofness makes a small appearance. Reg just bats the attitude away which is a refreshing change for Jeremy. He feels at ease in this man’s company and is desperate to have him around for longer. When he finds out Reg’s dream to travel he offers him, well has a bet, which if he wins Reg should come on tour with him and pretend to be his boyfriend!
I must admit when I first read that I was thinking why would he need to pretend that and not just be an assistant but it is as you read further you get to understand Jeremy and even know his sub conscious before he gets to so it’s kind of like he was hinting at himself who he truly was!
I was so glad this was no insta love or a GFY which I thought it could be at first. Reg is an amazing character and I just loved the whole package. He was so clued in to Jeremy it was gorgeous to see revealed, in one fabulous chapter after another, the love developing between these two gloriously divine men. It was one of those books you just could not put down and everything stopped so you could continue to be lost in the beautiful romance evolving.
The vulnerability of Jeremy just took my breath away, after all here was a thirty one year old man who didn’t know himself? But then every thought he’d ever had was given to him by others, his life controlled by the inch. When he couldn’t explain to Reg why none of his relationships with all the women he had never lasted, I was there shouting ‘Think about it J man, just think!’ When he was hesitant in asking for a hug my heart just melted and immediately Reg stepped in and just gave whatever Jeremy needed. He was wonderful for nurturing what Jeremy needed and his protector. Oh I so loved this book and these men!
When Jeremy finally opens up and accepts who he is and the relationship stepped up to another level I was rubbing my hands with glee. Oh and the sexy times that then took place – oh my GEE!
A brilliant sweet and sexy read that has left me with a serious book hangover and a ‘you must read this book’ recommendation. Five stars plus.
The story isn't just about fame and fortune it's about finding yourself even if your in your thirties and meeting the one person who is meant just for you. Jeremy and Reg are great characters and I liked the bonus chapter at the end of the book.
