Product Description

Review

[An] inspiring book on entertaining (Bee Wilson Stella Magazine)

A discursive, chatty, knowledgeable and didactic kaleidoscope of a book, the sort of thing Mrs Beeton would no doubt be writing if she were alive today. As we all know, entertaining has the potential for stress and disaster. Felicity Cloake has provided us with the means to reduce the risks (Daily Mail)

Sprightly and engaging . . . this is a girl who will not hesitate to give you a recipe for English muffins and for a breakfast martini; my sort of cook (Evening Standard)

Delightful (Observer Food Monthly on Perfect Rachel Cooke)

Brilliant . . . Finely honed culinary instincts, an open mind and a capacious cookbook collection . . . Miss Cloake has them all (Evening Standard on Perfect)

The Crumpet recipe is the best I've tried...and I've tried alot! The pea and mint fritters are a triumph! The recipes are interesting and varied, not complicated and the writing style is easy going...a keeper for the collector of cookery books!

This isn't just a recipe book - its a sort of 'bible' for those who, like me, enjoy entertaining but always end up in a state of complete chaos 10minutes before the guests arrive. That said, the recipes look fantastic (haven't tried any yet, as I only got my copy this morning, but I can't wait to get cracking). I'm a fan of Felicity's column so probably should declare an interest, but her prose is beautiful to read, whether she is simply describing how to beat an egg, or gentling bidding the reader that preparation is key to success.
Big thumbs up from me - over a hundred recipes and lots of good advice.

Author writes a nice story but very few usable recipes. Not very impressed with the type of recipes for entertaining especially when you have over 4 guests, as guessing the eating likes and dislikes of people can be tricky. Most of the recipes in the book are 'ttoo gourmet', to be safely cooked for a gathering. So not a very useful book. There are other books which do a better job.

A properly beautiful and inspiring book. The sort of thing you can sit down and read for hours while you're feeling seriously tempted. Practical too, which matters to me. Worth every penny.
