Dr. Pentti O Haikonen is an adjunct professor at the Department of Philosophy, University of Illinois at Springfield, USA. He is a well-known researcher and contributor to the field of machine consciousness with his books “The Cognitive Approach to Machine Consciousness”, “Robot brains; Circuits and Systems for Conscious Machines” and “Consciousness and Robot Sentience”. He has developed the Haikonen Cognitive Architecture (HCA) for conscious robots and has also outlined the System Reactions Theory of Emotions (SRTE) for the artificial implementation of emotions in conscious machines. He is also known for his experimental cognitive robot XCR-1 that is designed according to the principles presented in his books. His interests include the theory and practice of consciousness and machine consciousness, design of exotic electronic gadgets and the fundamental philosophical questions: why are we here and where did we come from, what was before the beginning.
