I’m not a lover of cards games, and so being a games collector (now having more than 700 in my collection!) for once, did not really purchase this intending to play, but for the beautiful artwork, and theme; I LOVE anything to do with mushrooms or toadstools.

An unusual theme this for a game anyway, but having had it several months, decided impulsively to just have a go at reading the rules the other day and having a go at playing - am I glad that I did! This has turned out to be one of the very best card games we can remember playing!

At first, one can be forgiven for thinking the rules are very complicated – and there a lot of things to remember, however, they do supply cards so players at a glance can see what choice they have on their turn, as there are no less than five different actions they may perform – but only one of them, and even if it is to their disadvantage to so!

As always in these types of games; it can seem a little pricey for what is really a pack of cards (no other playing pieces at all) but do not let this put you off, as this will grow on you! (no pun intended!)

We love it, and since starting to play, have found it rather addictive, and have played so far each day since! Having so many games in my collection to play, this is a first for us!

Great game that is also educational.

Fungi is a wonderful two-player game! The premise sounds a little odd, but is completely engaging once you start playing. There's a nice amount of strategy (you do need to plan ahead!) and not too much luck involved (beyond the order of the card pile), but the game itself is quite short (about half an hour) and compact and is easy to play while travelling. The artwork is completely striking and the attention to detail is amazing (the night cards have, for example, little night animals nibbling the mushrooms). It's easy to learn and fun to play, though I recommend using the alternative forest path layout recommended in the instructions!

this game is fabulous for forest and card game lovers alike, takes a while to grasp for those not used to new games (my mum aged 80 took four goes to get the real hang of it) .. but after that is a great time filler game (i do find it takes longer than 30 minutes to get through the forest though)

Brilliant card game. Its a really nicely done 2 player game about collecting mushrooms and then you get points for cooking them etc. Will be buying it for other friends who I know will love it.

Nice 2 player game but a bit long winded and not terribly exciting. Our best 2 player card game is Jaipur, which we play a lot more.
Best 2 player board games:
Ticket to Ride Europe
Pandemic
Carcassonne

I had a chance to buy this for my girlfriend at the recent UK Games Expo. It's a really delightful little two player strategy game with some beautiful artwork depicting various forest scenes. We both love it.

There is a pool of eight cards in the middle of the table that represents deep forest, and there is a card showing a pair of feet on a forest floor. This card is laid horizontally in front of the first two cards of the pool, this represents what mushrooms you can immediately find. Then you can acquire 'stick' cards to spend in order to get to the cards further down the line, ergo finding rarer mushrooms in deep forest.

Highly recommended!

Fab little game. Quite simple to learn, but once you know the game play this can get quite challenging. Basically it's a set of cards, so very compact to transport if you want a happy 2 player travel game. Suggest playing the circle layout though, as the original line layout is tedious for re-arranging. Both options are in the instructions. Previous comments about the naming conventions (English versus scientific) are true, but only really relates to the 'bad mushroom', and easily overlooked.

Fantastic, enthralling game that is very fast paced. Great subject matter too! Who knew that mushroom gathering could be so competitive!?

The instructions are a little complicated at first, which could be down to the translation, but after a 'dummy run' through the game, it was fairly straight forward.

It is painful to see the cider and the butter all disappearing into the decaying forest though!
