Product Description

Pebble is the first watch built for the 21st century. It's infinitely customizable, with beautiful downloadable watchfaces and useful internet-connected apps. Pebble connects to iPhone and Android smartphones using Bluetooth, alerting you with a silent vibration to incoming calls, emails and messages. While designing Pebble, we strove to create a minimalist yet fashionable product that seamlessly blends into everyday life. Apps bring Pebble to life. Pebble are building some amazing apps for the Smart Watch. Cyclists can use Pebble as a bike computer, accessing the GPS on your smartphone to display speed, distance and pace data. Runners get a similar set of data displayed on their wrist. Use the music control app to play, pause or skip tracks on your phone with the touch of a button. If you're a golfer, feel free to bring Pebble onto the course. We're working with Freecaddie to create a great golf rangefinder app for Pebble that works on over 25,000 courses world-wide. Instead of using your phone, view your current distance to the green right on your wrist. These apps will be the first, with more in the pipeline!

Having upgraded from the standard Pebble some weeks ago, I felt it may be useful to "compare & contrast" the two here?

On the plus side, the Steel looks like a proper watch, especially if you select the ModdernCal+ watch face (this is a must have by the way) and opt for the steel wrist band.

In terms of functionality, the two are identical and in terms of operation, I would say the button spacing on the standard watch is slightly easier to operate (feel for at night). This is because the buttons on the Steel are so close together, which whilst looking better than the standard button layout, is less ergonomic because you can't easily "feel" where one button ends and another starts. Beyond a very small bevel which separates the buttons on the Steel by >1mm there is nothing to tell you have moved from one button to the next. That said, it's not a huge problem and certainly the improved "look" of the button layout adds greatly to the less "geeky" look of the Pebble Steel itself but it is worth a mention if you have large fingers.

The leather strap (standard with the Pebble Steel) looks fine but you'll soon have to replace it if you wear the watch all the time; as I do, including in the Gym. Any vigorous exercise resulting in the generation of even moderate perspiration will soon render the leather strap sufficiently unpleasant to your olfactory senses that you will be forced to replace it. This is when you will discover that your choice in alternative straps is sorely limited and whilst the fixing is a standard 22mm because of the three tine design of the watch bezel itself, there are few options available beyond the ones offered by Pebble.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the office / work place! 4 Feb. 2016

Got a great deal on this from a Seller on Amazon!

Bought this for work. It allows me to leave my phone on silent ALL the time and decide from the watch if something is important enough for me to respond immediately for txt, email, calls and any other messages you decide to receive from your connected mobile!

I don't really care for the colour screen of the newer model, since I don't plan to spend any time REALLY looking at it - it's a watch! :)
I also don't use many of the apps available, just a few different watch faces to complement what i'm wearing, ie. short sleeve, long sleeve, polo, or dress shirt etc.

Battery lasts for the working week, so take it home with me Friday evening, approx 3 hours to FULL charge on a Sunday evening ready for Monday morning.

Happy to recommend!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgracefully Overpriced! 25 Aug. 2014
Great watch worth 5 stars - but I bought mine in the US for £135, including the metal strap so its a total p#ss take that they are trying to charge this much in the UK

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Product 12 Jan. 2015

Good product, and a sensible size, battery life is excellent. Some smart watches look like half a brick on your wrist.and the battery life is useless, the only gripe I have is that the blue tooth range is not that good & it is difficult to pair, sometimes takes 5 or six attempts, otherwise no complaints.

The only bad thing is the app that runs it from the phone is pretty battery heavy, other than that a very good product.
I think having the maps on my wrist is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!! 7 Sept. 2014

Easy setup and very impressive first couple of weeks. 4-5 days battery life so far. I'm a farmer and finding it great as I don't need to keep taking iphone out of pocket. A few more uk based apps would be good.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not all cracked up to be, very poor documentation 18 Feb. 2016
Bought this watch due to large screen size, however thing did not go well after I received it.
Pairing was intermittent, found the watch face too dull and not bright enough, you can add bright coloured faces but I'm not a teenager.
The lack of documentation is a problem, could not find a manual online to let you start using it, tried putting some apps on the watch but they went into the app locker, I could not find any information on how to move them onto the watch, also maybe it's me but could not understand how to get mail/txt/messages on the watch, are the apps preloaded Or do you have to put them on first.
I tried some forums to try and get the watch sorted, I use iPhone, iPad so I'm used to getting to grips with mobile technology, but unlike Apple who have a good information service, Pebble seem to let you sort it out yourself.
After two days of trying I gave up and returned it.
I now have Apple Watch, all set up and working as expected, pebble come on and get yourself sorted and get some user information online, and increase screen brightness, or put a nice colour screen on the watch
And also get the price differential the same, yet another case of the U.K. Customers paying more paying more
