'There's no mistaking Pearl Izumi's new bright orange Octane shoes which top their range. They feature a feathery one-piece man-made Clarino upper, which is not only soft and comfortable but robust too. This has super thin mesh panels that allow for superb airflow and are supported by an internal skeleton. The foot is held secure with two straps and unlike many these aren't reversed to avoid the chainset, but Pearl have offset these and kept the straps short, so there are no issues with them getting caught in the chainset. To be honest these straps were more intuitive and quicker to get in and out of, especially with the large heel tab to guide the feet in. The soles use a lightweight uni-directional Carbon fibre that not only offer great support and power transfer but are super light. With the lightweight uppers our test size UK 9 (Euro 43) samples tipped the scales at 220g. There are large vents up front that allow water out and ai

4.0 out of 5 stars Good looking Tri shoe 30 Aug. 2015

I have four rides in these shoes now. First, the toe-box is narrow, almost cramping. However, I have an insert and am wearing socks because I want to break the shoe in so I don't get blisters when I go barefoot. I followed the advice of others and went up a size as well. Glad I did. Second, the shoe is very light and breathable as advertised. The appearance is nice, almost more of a neon or bright orange, rather than a medium or darker orange. Third, the carbon materIal on the bottom is very stiff. Big change compared to my Nylon road shoes.

I can't believe retail on these shoes are over $300. Not sure I see the value if you spend that much (which I didn't). Good looking shoe and am eager to ride more with them.

UPDATE: So after a couple weeks now and numerous rides, I can add a couple of additional thoughts. First the toe box does not wear or stretch out. It is still a litte cramped with socks - even a thin pair. It fits just right w/o sock, but wonder about those hot days when your feet swell a little. Next, the heal and toe pad on the carbon aren't rubber. They feel like a hard plastic colored in orange to appear to look like rubber. They are slippery and scuf easily. I wear the Look Keo Cleats with the rubber contacts to prevent slipping around on the ground and still walk gingerly. Additionally, they are also not replaceable and appear to be part of the mold of the carbon outsole. This is not a good design in my opinion. For shoes that retail as high as they do, they should have replaceable parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Shoes 4 Jun. 2014

Not that a $325.00 pair of bikes shoes will improve anything about my riding, however these are just like putting a pair of gloves on. Just a wonderful fit. I love the air mesh for circulation on these shoes. If you want a fantastic pair of summer biking shoes, these are the ones.

Fits great and feel very comfortable. Long rides on the trainer my feet aren't soaked with sweat like with the previous shoes I had. Overall very happy with them.

They run small, I would recommend sizing up a full size. The shoe itself looked very cheap.

AMAZING! This is my 1st pair of REAL cycling shoes I must say, these do not disappoint. Super stiff, very snug, great quality product. All of my cycling apparel is PI, I love them and this is no different. Try finding your size for a great price... I got mine for 39.99!
