HASH(0x9bd9f5d0) out of 5 stars Pearl Izumi wins again with their Octane SL line of road shoes! 9 Sept. 2015

I've been cycling for 7 years now and the Pearl Izumi Octane SL I road shoes have been my go to pair of kicks. I've tried Bont A-1's and Adidas AdiStar Pro's and neither of them live up to the lightness, stiffness, and secure fit of the Pearl Izumi Octane SL line. After a good number of years, my Octane SL I's have seen a lot of road lovin' and have developed an undeniable perma-stink to them... which meant new shoes for me! It was hard for me to go with any of the others shoes because I've had such a great experience with these specific ones. Was glad to see that they've kept evolving the Octane SL road model and decided to get a new pair. I'm typically a size 9 US/42.5 EU. I knew my original shoes ran a little snug so the 9.5 US/43 EU size fit perfectly for me. I thought that they fixed the sizing issue, so I went with my normal size. Lo and behold, they were pretty tight on my feet. I returned them and got the larger size. Putting the shoes on, I immediately sensed a familiar fit and feel. Don't know how they did it, but the shoes are even lighter, yet have the same strength and stiffness that I'm used to. The new bold orange color will take a little getting used to (the originals were a versatile white and black color scheme), but they are beautifully crafted and designed. There are plenty of vents to keep your feet cool on those hotter spring and summer bike rides and have a small form factor to easily slip in and out of booties for those fall and winter excursions. I've always actually preferred the velcro clasps over any of the ratchet enclosures you'll see out there; they provide an accurate fit and allow you to quickly adjust. Overall, I love em as much as I've loved my original Pearl Izumi's. Hopefully in the few years the Octane SL V's will continue the tradition of quality construction and craftsmanship. You should definitely pick up a pair if you're looking for a superlight, superstiff pair of road shoes!

HASH(0x9bd9f7f8) out of 5 stars Quality bike shoe, but runs small 30 Jan. 2013

Every bike shoe has it's own style and shape. These tend to run very small. I usually take a 42.5 European size in bike shoes, even though I am an 8.5 American size shoe. In the case of these bike shoes, I would recommend ordering at least .5 size larger, if not a full size larger than your typical bike shoe size. They are very easy to put on and take off due to the velcro closures. Also very light, as light as Mavic Huez shoes. Carbon sole seems nice and rigid. s

HASH(0x9bd9fa5c) out of 5 stars Order one full size bigger! Shoe runs small! 15 Sept. 2015

Awesome shoe! Order at least one full size bigger than your traditional shoe size and follow the suggested US to EURO size difference. ( ex. I normally wear a men's U.S. 12 so I ordered a size 48 which fit very well)

These shoes are not rigid enough but they have good ventilation. Too bad there are not the Boa System.
HASH(0x9bd9ffcc) out of 5 stars Narrow Toes 12 Oct. 2015

The narrow toe is causing me some problems. I had to switch back to my older pair because of bruising on the big toenail. I also adjusted the clips so after my toenail heals, I will try this shoe again. Very light. I like the feel of the shoe overall and hopefully the narrow toes will not be an issue after the clip adjustment.
