Paws and Whiskers was an amazing book! It is filled with stories about cats and dogs from all different authors...
e.g. Michael Morpurgo, Philip Pullman, Malorie Blackman, Francesca Simon, Anne Fine, Patrick Ness, Dick King-Smith, Noel Streatfeild, Lewis Carroll, Enid Blyton and even two stories from Jacqueline Wilson herself! However, each of the stories only have one chapter in this book!

I would reccomend this to 7-12 year olds.

This is a very good selection of animal stories by a huge number of authors. They range from a page or two long to quite long. Many different animals are the subjects of the stories. Children who like animals will love it. The age range targeted is about 8 to 13 although older children and adults with an interest in animals will like it too. Jacqueline Wilson's name appears prominently on the cover and it would be possible to think the book was by her; she is, in fact, the editor but there is a story by her in the book.

Disappointing collection of mainly (very) old stories about cats and dogs. Whilst many of these will be new to young readers, it's a shame that we can't celebrate more of our newer authors instead of rehashing Enid Blyton, Charles Dickens, Kipling, Kathleen Hale, Noel Streatfield, Richmal Crompton etc. Yes, there are some current authors as well, but most of those are also reprints of existing stories - for such a good cause it would have been nice for authors to have written new stories.

Also interesting that there are more cat than dog stories! Sandwiched in the middle is a section of me and my pets by authors.

My eldest daughter is an avid reader and absolutely loves this book. We bought her a kindle last year and yet she prefers still to read "Real" books as she calls them. I asked her (bearing in mind she has just turned twelve) why she prefers "Real" books and she replied "Books have soul".
My daughter loves these books and if they are good enough for her they are good enough for me :-)

There was absolutely nothing wrong with book but unfortunately my Granddaughter already had a copy.

However, I do recommend this supplier from ease of access to site and products through to supply and delivery.

As excellent service all round.

When I was younger, I loved Jacqueline Wilson's books. I practically devoured them, reading and reading my dog-eared copies until the spines split. I wanted to be her characters: Eliza from The Bed and Breakfast Star, Ruby from Double Act (although I was probably more a Garnet), Tracey Beaker in the dumping group, and even Lottie from the Lottie project.

Now I'm a twenty-something year old, I've obviously grown out of that. Of course. Now, I've realised that who I really want to be is Jaqueline Wilson herself.

This was a really lovely and well-chosen collection of stories and extracts about dogs and cats. I myself am more of a cat person than a dog person, so I had a natural swing to enjoy those stories more. But I still loved the dog stories, particularly the extract from “The Incredible Journey.” It was really moving.

One concern I had about this novel was that reading only short snippets from stories would feel so incomplete that no satisfaction could be gained. Luckily, I was mostly wrong with this feeling, as I knew most of the books they came from: One Hundred and One Dalmations, Just William, Dick King Smith... I haven't read Jean Ure's novel Ice Lolly and this particular extract was unsatisfying for me. It left you with too many questions; questions can be very good, but this was too much. I was delighted to see The Cat That Walked by Itself; it has inspired me to reread Just So Stories.

The first story, Jacqueline's own, was lovely, and her oh-so-familiar and comforting authorial voice shone through. I liked Leonie, and it was a very complete short story – I wasn't left feeling cheated. Amongst the old favourites were some unexpected surprises: I never knew that Ian McEwan wrote for children! (Note to self: must find out more!
