Stanton Moor, a finger of gritstone amid limestone country, rises to 1,060 feet (323m) and is an open, breezy, heather-cld moorland giving glorious views across the valley of the Derwent. Its two chief characteristics, which form the main features of this short walk, are the curious rock formations and the vast number of prehistoric remains - burial chambers, standing stones, circles and fortifications - that litter the moor.

Birchover is a small village strung out along the hill that climbs to Stanton Moor. At its lower end, behind The Druid Inn, a path leads to the Rowtor Rocks, a gritstone outcrop worth exploring after the walk, both for its extensive views and its maze of caves and passages, where carved steps lead to staggered terraces. Many of these were the work of Thomas Eyre, an eccentric 18th-century clergyman, who also built, just beneath the rocks, the tiny village church.

I've had my copy of the Ordnance Survey Pathfinder Guide Peak District Walks (left) for donkey's years. So when I found Ordnance Survey's More Peak District Walks on Amazon, I thought: Great, more Peak District walks. Like you do. Only when it arrived in the post, all was not as it should be...

I (rightly) assumed that More Peak District Walks would be a stack of new walks to complement the original Peak District Walks book.

However what Ordnance Survey have done is to basically split the original Peak District Walks book (mine) in half and include some of them in a newer version of Peak District Walks and some in More Peak District Walks. Plus some new walks in both.

So, because I have the older version of Peak District Walks and don't see why the heck I should purchase a new version when the old version is perfectly OK, I have a load of duplicate walks that feature in both my books.

A bit naughty, really, because they could have kept the original Peak District Walks as it was and compiled a set of new walks for More Peak District Walks.

Which is what most people would assume is the case when they buy More Peak District Walks to complement an existing copy of Peak District Walks.

And it seems from the reviews on Amazon that I'm not the only person to be disappointed.

Shame on you, Ornance Survey.

I bought this book because it is titled 'MORE Peak District walks' so I presumed it would contain new walks not printed before, how wrong I was. If you have already purchased 'Dark Peak' Walks and 'White Peak' Walks don't purchase 'More Peak' walks as all the walks in this 'new' book are duplicates of walks printed in these 2 books, there are no new walks at all. very disappointed.

I was looking forward to a selection of new walks in the Peak District, having already enjoyed most of the walks in 'Peak District Walks' in the same series. I wish I had read other reviews here before purchasing. 'More Peak District' walks duly arrived and I am very disappointed to discover that of the 28 walks, about 18 seem to be virtually identical to those in the earlier book in the same series: I had expected 28 new walks, not just 10... This book needs to feature a warning about this. As a stand alone book, they are a nice and varied selection, well described and mapped, but for me there certainly aren't enough new walks to justify buying the 2nd book.

I have a Lake District version of this series and was venturing into the Peak District so got this book which is also brilliant. Full of great walks and graded for ease, so you can take your pick of easy or difficult walks, great to know in advance whether you'll have a light stroll rather or a hike on the dales!

Although the walks are good and well presented, they are mostly the SAME walks that appear in "Peak District Walks" with the text rewritten. Like other reviewers, this disappointed me and it almost looks like a case for the Trades Description Act!
