Cassie like most American's has mixed parentage which on it's own isn't a problem but it is when both of her witch parents have different magical abilities. Cassie as struggled to find herself as a witch with the different powers at odds with each other. Her partners Julia and Quan have been very patient and supportive but her training can't last forever so it's now or never!
A series of death's leads the trio of Verita's investigators to Flordia where their investigation is centered around the Carter brothers and their shady business partner. Drew, the youngest of the Carter's has a pull like no other which immediately raises Cassie's hackles.
With the investigation speeding up and danger coming from every corner Cassie is on her own with her charge Drew and a whole host of complications.
Great new series from HK Savage. Characters are all well written and like-able with depth to them. You can't help but find something in common with Cassie through your empathy with her personal short comings or her endearing personality.
Drew to me seems the ideal man. On the surface he's tough and sure but underneath has the vulnerabilities of everyone else.
Alot of action and mystery which peaks continuously throughout keeping the storyline fresh and intriguing.
Can't wait to read the next
Nothing to do with the author, but Kindle/Amazon, you really MUST sort out lines that muddle up. At times half a sentence ends up half way down the page!

Cassie is on what just may be her last assignment for the agency if she doesn’t learn how to use her magic without it getting out of control. So with this job she will go beyond the call of duty if that is what it takes to come out on top. But things are not a simple as she really wanted them to be. This guy Terry Pritchard is a witch also may have turned out to be a lot stronger than they anticipated. He takes and uses powers from other witches to make him stronger. He has plans to take over the whole world.
Cassie and her partners get a clue that he hangs out at this night club on occasion. This night club is owned and operated by two brothers who lost their parents when they were young. The oldest brother has for whatever reason gotten himself involved with this Pritchard dude. Most of the time his brother Drew has no idea where he is, what he is doing or when he will or if he will ever see him again. Drew will do anything for his brother Brandon even if It cost him his own life.
When Cassie goes to the club undercover looking for Pritchard or trying to find a clue as to his whereabouts. She meets up with Drew and boy do the sparks start flying. Only Cassie is not sure if what she is feeling is her or Drew after she finds out what Drew’s magical powers are. Beside all that sometimes they have to cross the line to find the bad witches before they kill or ruin more people’s lives.
Cassie is determined to save both of her partners Julia and Quad’s life as well as Drew’s life and Drew is determined to save his brother and Cassie both. So who will save who? Will they all make it out alive or will someone die while trying to save someone else? Who will live and who will die? Well I could tell you I guess but as I say “that is not my story to tell”. That is H.K. Savage’s story to tell. And if you pick up a copy of The Path today you will not be disappointed that is if you like witches and magic. Which are two of the things that I can’t get enough of.
I hope this is not the last book in this series. I would very much love the opportunity to read more about Cassie, Drew, Brandon, Julia and Quad. I just know they have a lot more that they would just love to tell us about. I can’t wait to read more of H.K. Savage’s stories. I think I have found another favorite author to add to the top of my list.
This is definitely an interesting read full of magic and intrigue. I loved the characters and thought the storyline was amazing! There was enough mystery to keep me on target for the whole book.

The book begins by introducing two young men, Brandon and Drew. Their parents have been killed; they are sent to live with an aunt until Brandon is 18 and can take care of Drew on his own. I felt great sympathy for Drew; his world changed in an instant. I'ts obvious that Brandon knows more but will not share it. And this all takes place in the prologue.
Next we meet Cassie. Cassie comes from two lines of witches making her a "mixed" witch. The only problem, she cannot tap into her powers.
Do you recall, as a child, having an adult tell you they expect great things from you? It's flattering but it can be turned inward, into perfectionism or being too hard on yourself. Cassie is way too hard on herself; she has boxed herself in.
Cassie is an investigator for Tutela ab Veritas, a group that polices magick users. She has been told if she doesn't tap into her gifts she may lose her job. That's a lot of pressure, no wonder she's plugged up and cannot access the witch part of herself. It was refreshing to see that Cassie had to struggle a bit to find herself. It's not fun when a main character accidentally pops up able to handle anything thrown their way. It's not believable. Cassie had to work at it and I REALLY like that about the book.
Cassie is given one last chance to show what she can bring to the table. There's a case involving Drew who currently co-owns a night club with his brother Brandon. She and her partners, Julia and Quan, set out to investigate.
Cassie ends up thrown into the situation, forcing her to figure out her powers. The investigators find that Drew and Brandon are witches as well. Drew and Cassie end up discovering their power together. Their attraction is electric although I wish there had been more romance involved.
I enjoyed the different types of witches and the displays of their powers; it's creative. The action scenes were engrossing. There is an array of unique characters. I liked that the book dealt with religious issues and the reverse discrimination from religious zealots.
But, I have a couple of problems with the book:
1) It is too slow starting out. There's too much information about Cassie's background.
2) The ending dragged on too long. I think at least 50 pages could have been cut from the book without affecting quality.
That said, the writing, editing, plot, character development are just fine. It may just be me.
If you're looking for a good witch series, check this one out. You may really like it.

Meet Cassie. She's a mixed blood witch that hasn't yet come to her own. She has pressures to perform her magick before getting kicked out of the witch police force known as Veritas. At the start of the book we find a not so confident young woman who doesn't want to fail anyone in her life. Everything seems hopeless for her magick abilities no matter what she tries...until she meets Drew while on a case with her partners Julia and Quan. Once she figures out how to harness her magick abilities we get to watch Cassie grow into her confidence! I sure do love a confident heroine! :)
Drew is a witch that doesn't understand why his whole life he's been able to get people to really like his presence and his attentions. When he meets Cassie he's reluctant to hear what she has to say...after all she may be the downfall to the mysterious dealings of his brother Brandon. Drew has had a feeling for some time now that his brother may be into some illegal activities. No matter what though he wants to keep his brother from the authorities. He will try and keep them on the path of who he thinks is the real villain Terry Pritchard. Terry the guy that has changed his brother since the day they met him. We get such a distaste for Terry and our hatred grows for him as we continue our journey throughout this book. That's how awesome a writer Ms. Savage is! An author that can evoke feelings is a great writer in my book! Drew, however, wasn't ready to be drawn in by the charming young witch. With his feelings getting all mixed up and a new world getting uncovered, will he survive the race to save his brother?
Getting Cassie and Drew together is like an awesome tag team that works well together, if only they could figure out their feelings for each other. Are they being pulled together through the force of their magicks or is it real? While trying to hunt for the mysterious Terry and the fugitive Brandon they will clash with some scorching kisses and feelings of turmoil that will have you turning the pages to see what happens next! I'm rooting for those two! They are both beginning to find their ways and I can just feel the story there! It's a world that I would love to continue reading about! I think she has just scratched the surface and there are great things to come with this series! I want to see Cassie and Drew possibly working together, I want more of Julia and Quan (Cassie's partners)! I want more HOT scenes between Cassie and Drew, and okay I just want more Savage!! I give this book my thumbs up!!
