Dual USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 Interface
If you're worried that your portable drive won't be able to keep up with the transfer rates of the future, then look no further than the My Passport. With the dual interface you'll have a single drive with both universal compatibility for today, and the next-generation speed you need for tomorrow. Use it with USB 2.0 now and step up to USB 3.0 speed when you're ready.
Up to 3x Faster Transfer Rates
When connected to a USB 3.0 port this drive lets you access and save files up to 3 times faster than USB 2.0. Imagine being able to transfer a 2-hour HD movie in just 5 minutes instead of 13 minutes.* Not only will this save you time and allow you to do other tasks, but it also makes your media that much more portable, available to take with you or be transferred within minutes.
*Performance may vary based on user's hardware and system configuration.

Automatic, Continuous Backup
A backup system that works as you do, running quietly in the background to protect your data using minimal PC resources. Whenever you add or change a file it's instantly backed up, so you can be safe in the knowledge that if the worst happens, your stored data will let you carry on from only moments before.
Password Protection for Privacy
Data privacy is a big concern for many people, and with a portable drive there is always the possibility that it could be misplaced during a journey. Gain peace of mind knowing that your data is protected from unauthorised access with password protection and encryption.

I have a new 1tb laptop, and bought the 500gb model before this one. Diabolical, it kept telling me it was full and I only had 176gb on my laptop at the time! Needless to say, that went straight into the bin! I have now disconnected this 1tb thing and that could quite easily go the same way.
I have contacted WD and their customer service is also diabolical
. They seem to answer emails every 2 months, after several reminders. In short, they have said they will refund what I have paid, but don't hold out much hope as they requested I emailed over all my bank and account details, iban, swift, account No. Bank address, my address. All they didn't want was my shoe size! I mailed them back telling them in no uncertain terms that I would not send this info, so pay me a cheque, by PayPal or similar. I await their outcome.
This is the first really critical review I have made to Amazon about any of my purchases. Before buying I read the reviews on external drives and noted a number which mentioned that this drive failed after a few weeks. I wish that I had heeded their warnings. Mine failed after the 30 day period had just expired. In any case, be aware that after a drive failure there is no way to delete your information. Hence returning the drive may not be a possibility. In my case with commercially sensitive scientific information I now have a rather nice-looking but useless lump of plastic. Ouch!
Don't ignore the one-star reviews as I did.
needless to say its now NO LONGER attached
looked on WD forums and this problem is listed by many users.............but no solutions !
tried registering with WD to get support, but registration keeps saying 'unsuccesful' despite all fields correctly input, and it doesn't highlight what the problem is !!
