Product description

Product Description

Zaz, the internationally acclaimed, multi-million selling chanteuse takes on the most iconic songs about Paris with a little help from legendary producer Quincy Jones. This new studio album includes duets with Charles Aznavour, Nikki Yanofsky and Thomas Dutronc. Over the last four years, she has been one of France's top-selling artists worldwide. Fans in over 50 countries have snapped up over 3 million copies of her first two albums. She has enjoyed international success marked by many achievements, including a Felix (ADISQ) in Canada, a Victoire de la Musique Award in France and a European Border Breaker Award. "Paris Sera Toujours Paris", the first single from her forthcoming third album, emphasizes the link between the Paris of yesteryear and the same city of today.

Why is this girl unknown in the UK? This superb CD takes a number of songs that have been around for some time and gives them a modern feel. The backing is mainly small group with prominence given to piano, guitar, clarinet and (yes) accordion. Despite what you may think this does not give a corny sound to the tracks. Zaz's energy and jazz styling mixed with splendid arrangements gives a real feel-good factor to the album. If you think the track "Paris sera toujours Paris" sounds familiar you are older than you let on, because Maurice Chevalier sang this song which was written in 1939 and is about Paris at the start of the War. The tempo of Zaz's version is about twice that of Chevalier's.

Album purchased on Amazon.fr (almost half priced). I cannot praise enough this wonderful and uplifting album. I can only agree with previous comments. I have known and watched this artist develop for a few years now, she gets better and better, she has already gained recognition in other European countries (notably Germany) and this album will open gates to more international fame. Her personality is as authentic, genuine and cheerful as her art. I see her as a cross between Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzegerald and Amy Winehouse. She has what it takes. The DVD is superb and subtitled in English and German. A real breath of freshness and beacon of light in the present gloomy world.

It is clear that this young lady can sing and can turn her hand to a number of musical styles with equal facility, whether that be the torch song, acapella, big band, jazz, blues and can even hold her own against that old war horse Charles Aznavour. For me though, as someone with only enough French to just about get by on holiday one of Zaz's great strengths is her crystal clear diction which means that many of the lyrics actually make sense and indeed I would recommend this album to anyone wishing to listen to French sung in exceedingly pleasant surroundings. It won't be to everyone's taste but if you love France, you will surely love this album.

Came across this superb singer from a BBC 4 documentary about French song. What a great album this is. She attacks each song with such verve and enthusiasm. The arrangements are excellent, French jazz with violin, accordion and guitar - not to say a terrific big band on "I love Paris". The UK ignores anything "foreign" while the rest of the world appreciates a true talent. Sometimes I feel ashamed to be British - this girl is exciting, she obviously loves Ella Fitzgerald and her scat talent is excellent. I have bought her other CDs too and they are excellent. Some great live extracts on you tube from her earlier work. I can't think of a new UK artist to match ZAZ.

I was watching a BBC4 documentary about French music and Zaz seemed to be just another talking head that I've never heard of. But then they played some of her music, and I had to have it. It's cool, jazzy, upbeat...The opening track is utterly thrilling. The whole album is truly magnificent.

I found this young lady whilst listening to Juliet Greco on youtube and I must say I was very impress from the start. I had never heard of her before but I soon bought a couple of her albums, Paris being one Recto Verso the other. I found Paris to be a delightful album full of charm and energy. These covers are enhanced by her touch not diminished in any way, she is not Piaf or Greco by why would you want her to be! I just wish there were more songs like these about my home, London.

Haven't a scooby what she is singing about but so refreshing to listen to someone singing with a smile rather than the usual turgid I'm about to cry, where's the rope style that is all too popular these days.
