Product Description

Another instalment of the widely successful 'found footage' horror franchise. This time, we follow a young Latin American, Jessie (Andrew Jacobs), who begins experiencing a number of disturbing and unexplainable things after the death of his neighbour. Quick to investigate, it isn't long before Jessie finds he's been marked for possession by a malevolent demonic entity, and it's only a matter of time before he is completely under its control...

'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones' is a supernatural horror film that released in 2014. It is the fifth installment in the Paranormal Activity film series. The film was met with a mixed response, however succeeded at the box-office and became a hit.

The plot revolves around two friends, Jesse Arista (Andrew Jacobs) and Hector Estrella (Jorge Diaz). They discover, after the death of a neighbor that Jesse has been marked by demonic witches for possession.

I have seen the previous four installments in the series and enjoyed all of them, a guilty pleasure they are. On this occasion, different tactics are employed, with success I must add. More emphasis is placed on the build up of suspense and tension as opposed to the normal false scares. There is a different fresh setting with a dash of humor that works. Last but not least, the performances of the lead actors come across as real adding an edge to the horror.

The sustained suspense and tension works wonders as the frights, which there aren't many compared to previous outings, become more effective. I found this feature to be more creepy than scary and still enjoyable. The film ends with a good twist.

The acting by the lead actors is the best I've seen in all outings. The characters seem real making the horror solid and spooky.

The direction by Christopher B. Landon makes the movie a cinematic offering than the normal strict found footage format. There is considerably less annoying amateur style camera work that always gives me a headache. His different approach has for me re-energized the franchise.

'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones' is a horror event in the series that leaves a serious mark!

I guess it's kind of obvious but if you like the Paranormal Activity sequels so far (I do) then it's likely you'll enjoy this.

It takes a new set of characters, a younger Latin American crowd, and does something slightly different with the Paranormal Activity folklore, which ties into the previous films nicely. The style is a little different also, instead of the familiar static camera shots this is mainly a guys carrying a camera and filming EVERYTHING they do sort of style. It worked for me, bringing a bit of freshness to the storyline.

There's the usual creepiness and enough jumpy moments to satisfy. Decent stuff and worth 80 minutes of your time.

I enjoyed watching it but that said the sequels as time goes on aren't fitting together as well as the first three did and there are a lot of unanswered questions like how did Katy and Kristie survive after PA3 and how was the death or their mother and stepdad never mentioned in any of the films especially as it was at the hands of their grandmother, in PA4 we still don't yet know how Hunter ended up being adopted as Katie had run away with him in PA2 and in this 5th installment it gets a bit weird at the end also although at least it solves to mystery of what happened to Micah in PA1.

Aside from the plot being a little all over the place, it was still very watchable apart from a bug bear I have with all these PA films - the voice of the person holding the camera is always loud and clear but despite much turning up of my TV's volume it is hard work to hear the other voices in the room. My other bug bear and a lot of horror films do this now is edit the most gripping scenes to be almost pitch black and unwatchable! That really irritates me as that is what viewers are waiting to see and a black screen just isn't scary!

Jesse is a young teenager from a South American neighbourhood who starts to hear things coming from next door. Investigating with some friends and filming the whole thing on camera, they discover that something evil is after Jesse. This really should have been called Paranormal Activity 5 and strictly speaking it really is but it is instead marked as a spin off of the popular Paranormal Activity franchise. Following the same formula of what has happened before, a decent no name low budget cast and filmed on camera as a found footage movie this has some good scares and there are references to previous films in the series but by now this is a strictly for fans only film and only worth watching if you have seen and are fans of the previous films in this series.

This latest installment I found to be the least in the series. Kids graduate and start filming everything, attempting to show us Hispanics know nothing about filming either. After Oscar kills Anna, and everyone seems to know this but the cops, our group of film makers break into her place so they can get their fingerprints at the crime scene and steal her book of demonic doorways. Later Jesse, talks to a Simon game, because Ouija boards are so passe. It seems the same possessed Chihuahua has bitten Jesse as Oscar. At some point in time they opt to tie the series all together by filming poorly lit scenes with people screaming and a camera going through a jerking motion, enough to cause inner ear sickness.

Oh yes, the acting sucked too. Sick a fork in it. It's done.

Parental Guide: F-words. Nudity?

I found this instalment even more enjoyable than the 3rd and 4th ones in terms of its storyline. However, The 'Horror' element in it is really poor and by now you just know when a jump scare is going to happen (baring in mind their hardly is any). I also found the cast in this film annoying and stupid as well as their terrible acting.

Overall, Even though this may have the best storyline out of the whole series, It still lacks in jump scares, horror and suspense.
