Unfortunately, up to now the music has not lived up to his ambition levels. Don't get me wrong Urban Legend & King (even T.I. vs T.I.P.) were great albums musically but you knew that T.I. was aiming even higher. He wanted his albums to be at the same level as 2pac, Eminem, B.I.G. at their respective primes.
He came close with King but I think he might have done it this one. If this was 1999 I wouldn't bet against this album going diamond. But thanks to the internet double platinum will be a stretch.
Comparisons to the greats are relevant because like them, T.I. has some monster hits on this album, "whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life" are already #1 hits. "No Matter What" was an undeniable street anthem and "What up, What's happenin'" has the streets & the mixtape circuit buzzing. And the great thing is that there is more hits to come.
This is not to say that the album is perfect (despite the 5 star rating) but neither were the greats. But like the Carter III, this album is one you'll remember when 10 yrs from now you think of the year 2008.
The key to the success of the album is T.I.'s hunger which is at pre-Urban Legend levels. But at the same time he maintains the swagger that he's become famous for. This is most evident on the monster track "Swagger Like Us" where T.I. flexes his swag and mic skills at the same time.
He balances the fun tracks like the Swizz beats party starter "Swing Ya Rag" well with the more serious stuff like "You Ain't missing Nothing". The production is alot more consistent than his prior efforts making the album quite cohesive despite the varying subject matters.
He cleverly uses his guest features to make the tracks even bigger. Case in point is "Live Your Life" which suits Rihanna to a tee, same Justin Timberlake & John Legend on "Dead & Gone" and "Slide Show" respectively.
All that makes this his biggest and most well contructed album. And while there is room for improvement (see "Every Chance I Get"), in the whole it is excellent entertainment.
Lil Wayne sounds awful on 'Swagga Like Us' and if you heard that before Tha Carter 3 then I don't think he would've sold a quarter than what he has.
A solid album from TI with enough Raw tracks and a couple of Radio Friendly songs thrown in for him to make his $$$.
Whatever You Like: This is an excellent song which is really radio friendly. Again T.I. sounds relaxed and effortless on this track.
Live Ya Life ft. Rihanna: Rihanna was a great choice for this song not just because she is everywhere at the moment. Just Blaze does great production and T.I. delivers great lyrics which are positive and shows that he has matured in his genre. Great party track too and for blaring out of your car like I have all weekend.
No Matter What: produced by Danja (think Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Britney, anything Timbaland has done for about 3 years now). This is my favourite song on the album and it is probably the most personal for T.I. as well.
Swagga Like Us ft. Kanye West, Jay Z and Lil Wayne: this is a really good track, booming production by Kanye West. Nevermind all these veterans and A-star rapper, T.I. still sounds the strongest (then Jay Z, K West and Lil W). Considering that these guys are all probably going to go head-to-head for Best Hip Hop Album of the year at the Grammys in 2009, this song is apt for them to be on.
On Top Of the World ft. Ludacris / Slide Show ft. John Legend: both these songs deserve a mention. T.I. and Ludacris have joined together to make an excellent song as Kings of the South while John Legend sounds so smooth like liquid on this track.
This is a stand-out album and should be on your must buy list very soon. I cannot recommend it more highly. 4.5 stars.

The other is T.I., whose chart topping hits are impossible to ignore. His ability to corraborate with so many well known artists and put out such an outstanding album displays his skill, influence, and style in his latest album "Paper Trail".
Especially moving is the fact that he dedicates one of his songs to Soldiers in Iraq, of which I am one of them. We have this album playing constantly while driving around in our NTVs (non-tactical vehicles). I am not the only one who feels particularly moved by the fact that he throws a shout out to us.
I don't love every song on this album, however, the songs on here I do love carry this album's weight. I give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5, specifically for "Live Your Life", "Whatever You Like", and "My Life Your Entertainment".
There's some ok tracks that have a lot of bragging tough/rich/cool guy lyrics like "On Top of the World", "My Life Your Entertainment w/ Usher", "What Up, What's Haapnin"
But then he pulls out some awesome tracks like with great beats & lyrics on "Live Your Life w/ Rihanna", "Whatever You Like", "No Matter What", & "Dead & Gone w/ Justin Timberlake"
However I have to skip "Swagga Like Us" feat. Jay Z., Kanye West, & Lil Wayne every time it comes. I like all these guys & they could've made a much better track, but the Sample they took of the girl sayin "Swagga Like Us" & played it over & over until the annoying repetition drives you nuts!!
Other than that song, excellent cd!!
