After spending a couple of months travelling in Oz I was rushing around Sydney looking for a few keep sakes to take home when I remembered the long flight I had to endure to Los Angeles. I asked the girl in the bookshop to pick a witty, romantic, but not too soppy book for the plane journey. She couldn't recommend this book highly enough so I bought it without even reading what it was about, as she seemed to know the type of thing I was looking for. By the time I got off the plane at the other end I felt like hopping back on just to go and thank the girl in the bookshop. I haven't laughed so much at a book in ages. You really feel for the lead character who has had a hard break-up and has ran off to Sydney to start a fresh. The twists in the story are so funny that they keep you wanting to read more and more. Some of the men are just plain weird but the good ones more than make up for the weirdo's. The first page gives such a true reflection of how a lot of us look at these hunky Ozzie blokes who live on a 'ranch', but the lives of the characters are so extreme and bizarre. You feel like screaming at her wanting to let her know about the Perfect man who is right in front of her, but she just doesn't see him. This book not only took me right back to Sydney, but made me quiver with the thought of those hunky Ozzie men!! : )

Georgia is a 29 year old English girl, who has a successful job in London on a women's glossy magazine entitled,"Kitty" and who also has an equally successful relationship to match. That is, until one December evening just home from work, she settles down in front of the video, hits play and what she thinks is going to be "Roman Holiday", is treated to a home video of Rick, her fiancee, strutting around naked, flexing a cane, while a prostitute is lolling around on the sofa. Georgia, decides to up and leave......not just Rick, but the country as well and flees to Australia to work on another magazine, "Glow". From here the story tells of her first year in Australia - an English girl 12,000 miles from home, in a strange city where our summer is their winter, Christmas Day is spent on the beach, the equivelent of Andrex is called Sorbent! and where water goes down the plug hole the opposite way - it really does, Georgia checks before leaving England. It's about the bitchy A-list Sydney party circuit, the amazing mix of people....and drugs that she is introduced to, the superficial yet tragic characters she works with on "Glow", and the men she meets...and shags on the way. This is also, in part, a love story, as Georgia sets out on a protracted and well documented path, thanks to her colleagues at "Glow", to find a replacement for Rick.
This is a very wittily written novel. It's extremely funny on the surface, yet dig a little deeper into the characters and you unearth skeletons hiding some dark and sordid secrets. You won't be able to put it down. This is a grown up Bridget Jones's Diary. It has brilliantly observed characters a wonderful backdrop - Sydney, Mardi Gras, Bondi Beach, cattle ranches the size of Wales and the Sydney way of life which is,vibrant and buzzing. If you thought "Bridget" was huge "Pants", is going to be even bigger. Trust me.

From the very first words in this book I was hooked. The main character of the book, Georgia Abbott is easy to relate to as she is everyone or everyones best friend. All the charaters along the way are bright and comical and Georgia quest to find the ideal man/husband among the bagage carrying, slightly unhinged men of Sydney is vey amusing. The book is awash with laughter, booze, laughter, sex and more laughter. A first class read.

I have just finished this book and i have to say READ it - it is the perfect summer read, i couldn't put it down. Georgia is a cool heroine and it is so good to read a book which has not been set in London, but has a fresh twist of being set in Sydney. It's got parties, gorgeous men and clothes and what more could you want? Highly recommeneded ...

This book is fantastic, much better than all the usual 20-something romance/dramas which are normally based in London. Having it based in Sydney is a new twist and makes you want to go there and experience it all yourself! A must read!

I have to say that I really did enjoy this book. I thought it was very amusing and i'm sure that every girl who reads this book will be able to relate to Georgia in some way. I found it to be very gripping and in parts it was hard to put down. I didn't find the ending disappointing at all, infact it turned out how I wanted it to. I would however like to know what happened after that and it would be good if she did another book following on from the story. Overall I would say it was a really good book and well worth a read!

despite my declarations af man-hatred and my love for the classics of literature, i can't help but fall in love with these feel-good books - ok, so they have ups and downs, but so does real life, it's just nice to get a happy ending - if only to keep you believing that you will too!

I couldn't put this book down! Would really recommend it to anyone and an extra bonus if you have been to Sydney as it's full of references to familiar places. It's witty, modern and utterly addictive!
