Pandemonium is book #1 in the MC Sinners Next Generation and the first book I have read by this author. I was gifted a copy of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.
Not sure where to start with this book, I honestly really struggled to get into this story and it took me nearly three days to read this book.
This is a standalone, BUT again I think you need to read the previous MC books to understand the motivation behind some of the things that happen in this story.
There’s a massive part of the plot that must be something to do with Ava’s dad and I’m assuming it must be mentioned in his book. Because if it’s not a part of Jackson’s story then I don’t understand the motivation at all and it’s never mentioned!
The story jumps back and forth between past and present, but as the reader we aren’t made aware of the time gap between the now and then. At times the flashbacks were disorienting and confusing.
I didn’t engage with this book which is a massive surprise because I love MC books.
The bad guy was a proper psycho but it all ended a bit too easily and I’m not sure if that is in fact the last we will see of him.
I liked Lucas but how old was he??? Ava was early twenties but Lucas certainly came across as much older.
This story doesn’t really work for me, I can’t quite put my finger on what it is that I don’t like, I just didn’t really enjoy it.
Pandemonium gets 2.5 stars from me.
Ava is the daughter of the Hell’s Knights President, and has lived under their protection all her life. Until one fateful night, when she was left unprotected. Now her protection comes in the form of Lucas Black, BUT, he wasn't expecting her to be the daughter of the man he's investigating.
Detective Lucas Black is a great character, he’s had a tragic sad past, and you read this book needing someone to love him. Bella has done a fantastic job putting pen to paper with Lucas, he is strong, and he overcomes the hurdles and past with such emotion and passion. Ava maybe a daddy’s girl, but she’s not weak by any means, yes she’s always had the MC looking out for her but she’s just a normal girls finding her way is the world with the limited independence her family give her.
I really enjoyed Pandemonium, it’s told in a dual POV but Lucas’s POV is mainly in the past, and builds up to the future, so it can be a little jumpy in parts, and was a slow burner of a book but stick with it as it well worth it. This is a standalone, but if you’re familiar with the MC Sinner series then you get to meet the other MC kid's, all grown up, (spin offs).
