Best Motion picture Reproduction - 100Hz TechnologyWatching TV is about moving images rather than still images. A still image in high resolution looks brilliant on almost any HD TV, but when the images are moving, you can see a clear quality difference as many TVs have difficulties to display fast moving contents without motion blur.
All Panasonic plasma TVs are equipped with 100Hz technology. This superb technology doubles the output frame rate, meaning the gaps of time between image frames are lessened. The more frames inserted, the smoother the overall imaging will be for the human eye. The 100Hz technology is a major benefit to you as it aids in creating flicker-less moving images.
Next Generation Contrast
VIERA incorporates an improved panel production process and the new Real Black Drive system. A pre-discharge control system, the Real Black Drive system achieves next-generation black reproduction. When you're watching movies, VIERA renders images just the way the director intended, even in scenes where it's difficult to achieve a proper balance of light and dark.
View Photos from your SD Card
It's easy to view full-HD images with the SD card slot. Watch and show your photos and motion images right after you take them. Simply insert an SD Memory Card into VIERA to display photos and full-HD videos on the large screen. An easy-to-see, easy-to-use thumbnail display has also been added. You can also enjoy special background music, slideshow frames and transition effects.
In Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too.
VIERA Eco Link
VIERA Link uses the control signals that are transmitted through an HDMI cable for automated functions. Just press the VIERA Link button on the VIERA TV remote to control your entire Panasonic components including Home Cinema Systems, HD camcorder and Lumix digital cameras.
In 2009 the VIERA Link concept has been further developed, providing you even more functions. For example, Eco Link which helps you to save energy by putting all connected Panasonic devices into sleep mode when they are not used.
Saving Energy with Eco Mode
As people become more aware about environmental concerns, the power consumption of their electronic products presents itself. To improve on the environmental impact of power consumption, Panasonic has introduced an Eco Mode as standard in most of its VIERA TVs. By activating the Eco Mode, a photo sensor measures the ambient light conditions of the room and the picture settings adjust automatically. As a result, the TV uses less power in darkly-lit conditions without any compromise of the picture quality.
Build to Resist – VIERA Tough Panel
Panasonic VIERA Plasma TVs are protected by a front sheet of glass resistant to impacts of up to four joules. This is particularly reassuring for families with small children who may otherwise inadvertently damage the screen when playing.
Also, the growing success of games consoles using motion controllers has led to an increase in TVs being accidentally struck and damaged by controllers which have slipped out of player’s hands. Thanks to VIERA plasma TVs’ Tough Panel you don’t need to worry. And what’s more, the protective panel makes cleaning easier too, simply wipe with a soft cloth when necessary.
Long-Life Design - up to 100,000 Hours of Viewing Enjoyment
Because a TV should have as little negative impact on the environment as possible, it must function for many years. That is why Panasonic Plasma TVs have been engineered to deliver an excellent viewing experience for up to an amazingly long 100,000 hours. So if you were to watch TV eight hours a day – that would be 30 years!
Panasonic lead-free Plasma TVsFlat screen TVs that employ conventional technologies may contain a spot of harmful chemicals such as lead or mercury. These chemicals are then set free when the TV is taken to recycling at the end of its lifecycle. Already in 2006 and as the first manufacturer worldwide, Panasonic has completely eliminated the use of lead and mercury in their flat screen TVs.

I have noticed that some older TV programmes do occasionally show poorer picture quality, you get a bit of a jiggered edge round faces and colours look a bit patchy etc but believe me this is very infrequent, and I have only noticed it around 2/3 times on ITV4. If your worried about old films etc suffering don't. I watched The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - stunning. Please do not let this stop you purchasing this TV, it is a very small thing which will not stop you enjoying your favourite programs, I think it's only noticably as the quality is so good on everything else.
Further to the above, I also have a sky HD box which I have used with the TV on occasions, picture was even more stunning.
I would highly recommend buying.
My previous TV was a 720p LCD and this is a 720p Plasma, both were connected to the same V+ box and dvd player,so it is a fair comparison. From the moment all the cables were plugged back in and the Plasma screen powered up, the difference is apparent.
I had read, but did not appreciate how much the impact better definition of black would give. I thought it would only really be noticeable when watching some shadowy movie like Batman Begins. I was wrong. It brings so much more to everyday viewing.
As mentioned this is not a 1080p telly but unless you own a BlueRay Player or a Hi Def Camcorder etc, you'll never need more than 720p as that is the current highest resolution of broadcasts . A fact which I felt got lost on some instore sales men!
I have given this product 4 out of 5, although I'm completely happy with it at the moment, I expect this to still be the case in 3 or 4 years time. Maybe this is a little harsh, but my previous LCD developed dark cloud like patches after a couple of years and I'm hoping that similar problems will not ruin my current love of this Telly.
In a nut shell, if you are limited to 37" and below and just planning to watch broadcasted programs then this is the Screen for you.
***** EDIT: ONE YEAR LATER *****
Plasma is still going strong and has not developed any faults and with two pre-school kids in the house, it is used pretty much all day everyday. The glass screen has also proven to be very easy to clean, a baby wipe seems to do the trick nicely. Therefore it's only to upgrade its rating to 5 out 5.
The Auto contrast function works well, we can watch the TV now with
without closing the window blinds on bright and sunny days.
The only thing I'm having difficulty with is the sound. I can't seem
to get a good set up on the equalizer. The TV has a speech and music
pre set function and we don't like the sound quality from either.
Don't miss under stand, the sound is Ok I just need it to be better
so I'm going to invest in a surround system. They say you can enjoy
listening to the TV through one, hear the speaking parts and the loud
special effect parts with out the hole neighbourhood having to hear it too.
