There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Delivery (from SSE) was fast. Assembly (basically, attaching the handle with one screw and pushing the hose onto the suction inlet) was kids' stuff.
The leaflet that came with the cleaner says that the MC-UG342 (and MC-UG344) have "automatic height adjustment ... (for) any carpet pile" (it doesn't mention hard flooring). During the first two uses of my MC-UG 342, I found that it "gripped" rather too tightly to my carpets (I anticipated building some pretty big "push and pull" arm muscles!) and it tended to lift cushion vinyl flooring and rugs (I don't have wood flooring). However, in subsequent use (3-4 more uses) this has ceased to be a problem (possibly, something has freed up with use or it has simply lost a little suction power now that the bag is partly filled). At present, it glides pretty well across carpets and vinyl, with apparently plenty of cleaning power.
The big (6.1 litre) dust bag is ample; mains lead is 6.7 metres (same as the old model; just about enough for me).
Overall, I'm pleased that I didn't spend 2 or 3 times as much on a different brand (you know who I mean!). It seems pretty much as good as my old Panasonic and if it lasts as long, I'll be 90 when I next have to review a vacuum cleaner (work it out!). I've given 4 stars rather than 5 in case the "gripping carpets and lifting vinyl" effect comes back, but I'm guessing it won't be an issue.
Chose to buy Panasonic as I previously had one which was the best vacuum I've ever had. It was powerful, quiet and reliable.
Package arrived in good order and on time. I was still impressed with the good quality of Panasonic (this model is MC-UG342). When unpacked, you just have to assemble the handle. (it just required sliding on and attaching by means of a Phillips screw which was enclosed).
When the vacuum was turned on, it did in fact adhere to the carpet as the suction was so strong (as advised by previous reviewers). Could not be moved in 2 directions AT ALL, by me or my husband!. Turned it upside down to ensure there was no packaging obstructing the roller, and observed there were 4 sets of tufts completely missing from the roller rendering it unfit for it's purpose. Also the release catch was stuck making it impossible to tilt or lock without pushing up with your toe under the catch. Naturally, I am not able to give much more of a review as isn't properly working model which is a shame because it looks and feels really robust.
I wrote an email to the sellers (Molly at L.M. Electrical) who were excellent. They apologized for the inconvenience and advised they would refund my cost and P&P as replacing to Spain was not cost effective. I have already been refunded so have to praise their excellent customer service department.
I was very disappointed that the Panasonic had to go back, but if it wont move, it won't clean. When I was able to move it, it couldn't bring the pile up so sadly I had no choice.
UPDATE. The brush bar had got jammed and I hadn't realised until too late and it started to smell of smoke, when I inspected, the insertion points had melted away, so it needs a new brush bar which are REALLY expensive even on ebay, so not worth replacing. My advice, if you buy one, regularly check the brush bar is rotating and not stuck as it gives you no warning until too late.
