Product description
Manufacturer's Description
Colourful designs with a playful, fashionable look. Cameras that are easy to carry, easy to use, and easy to enjoy. Just press the iA button, aim and shoot. The camera does all the rest, automatically adjusting to the shooting conditions and helping to correct blurring, focus, and brightness problems. iA Mode includes MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) to compensate for hand-shake, Intelligent ISO Control to detect subject movement, Face Detection AF/AE to focus on faces in the frame and remove unwanted red-eye, and Intelligent Scene Selector to select the optimal scene mode automatically for you.
The DMC-FS7 features a 33-132mm f/2.8 bright LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens. This bright, low-distortion lens results in a compact, easy-to-carry camera that delivers beautiful pictures. Equipped with a 4x optical zoom lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 33-132mm) that captures beautiful shots of people or landscapes with 10.1-megapixel full resolution.
With the long battery life of DMC-FS7, you no longer need to worry about your camera running dry during shooting. The DMC-FS7 can deliver 360 images per battery charge, easily fulfilling your needs for a full day of shooting.
The DMC-FS7 hosts a 2.7-inch 230,000 dot high resolution LCD. It features the Intelligent LCD function, which increases the backlight brightness in 11 steps according to the ambient light intensity. At the highest of these 11 steps, the LCD backlight becomes approx. 1.4 times brighter than normal. This makes both shooting and viewing photos easier and more convenient.

In use the camera is very user friendly and very intuitive so the manual is very rarely needed. While in Germany I took around 100 pics and I was stunned by the results. The pictures are clear, highly defined, and evenly exposed. I was only in Germany for 3 days on business so had to grab spare moments of sightseeing. This camera sat very comfortably in my pocket ready for action.
The reason for only 4 stars is the viewfinder (or lack of one). This camera only has a screen to frame the picture (no viewfinder) and i struggled slightly to see the image in bright sunlight so had to guess if I was pointing it in the right direction. But when it was pointing in the right direction, the results were more than worth the struggle! Also mine was supposed to come with a free case but this never materialised.
If you can put up with the dim-in-sunlight screen then buy it. You won't be disappointed with the resultant pictures.
UPDATE: Afetr informing Amazon of the failure of the free camera case to arrive they took care of it and, low and behold, I have my free case. Well done Amazon!
Of course, you can't take super professional pictures with it and I don't think the camera was made for that either. All in all, I think that for someone with my level of expertise (I take pictures when I go out or travel) this is a great camera.
This has nothing to do with the camera, but I was promised a case to go with the camera when I bought it and I never received the case.
within a few minute's she was up and running and now is useing it like a pro. the reason i picked the lumix range is because of it's pedigree, i own the lumix dmc fz18 and i love it, it do'es everything i need to do in a camera.
Among the features I really like:
- the user interface is a beauty, so simple and logical to navigate
- a fully automated mode that really works. Every test picture so far came out "right", night and day exposure
- the flash is very complementary, it never seems to to wash out subjects, just producing enough light or fill-in to get a good exposure
- manual setting modes that allow a decent range of adjustments for such a small camera; it ain't an SLR but for trickier conditions it gives enough control. Higher ISO modes don't seem too noisy so far
- the movie quality is superb, and the screen on the back is large enough and of high enough quality to really watch them playback without the rush to transfer to another display
- focussing seems pretty quick and precise
- the 10Mpix is enough to allow on camera cropping, producing high res images still which are very useable for the case I tried. Onboard cropping logic was really straight-forward
- The size of thing; it's tiny and so light, and a wonderful design
- Battery life seems good, I charged it up then took 100+ pics (with lots of flash) and some movies later the charge level only just stepped down from 3/3 bars to 2/3 bars.
- Use of SDHC is nice, fitted with a 8Gb card it indicates I can get almost 1600 pics in the highest-res mode! The standard goes up to 32Gb apparently.
Nice job Panasonic!
For me this Lumix just isn't intuitive enough. I find if fiddly and awkward to use and the menus hard to navigate - I guess I could overcome this by spending more time with the camera, but that's just not me.
I also find the zoom difficult to use - much preferring the manual method of cameras of old, giving the lens a quick twist.
There is also a slight delay between pressing the button and the camera taking the shot, so most of the time I miss what I had wanted to snap. very frustrating.
On the plus side pictures are crisp and clear - although I haven't been able to work out how to capture objects (or rather animals) in motion without the picture blurring, even in sports mode.
It records film well, the auto focus is excellent and if feels solid and well made too, but all in all - meh - I could take or leave this camera... but then again I can take or leave photography and photos as a whole.
