Panasonic Camcorder HC-V250EB – Compact Body yet Powerful 90x Intelligent Zoom
Introducing the V250, a small yet powerful Wi-Fi enabled camcorder. Helping you to get closer to the action than is possible with conventional zooms, even when shooting from far away, this palm-sized device is equipped with an already impressive 50x optical zoom that can be extended to the equivalent of 90x in intelligent zoom mode.
Intelligent 90x Zoom / 50X Optical Zoom
Capture everything from close up portraits to landscapes and drag the faraway closer with a comprehensive zoom range that offers the maximum equivalent of 90x at the telephoto end.
High Sensitivity Lens, Beautiful Images in All Conditions
In the case of the Full HD 1920x1080 pixels V250, the combination of High Sensitivity Sensor (a back side illuminated CMOS chip) and Crystal Engine Pro image processor results in the delivery of bright, high quality and low noise images, whether recording in light or dark conditions, and both indoors and outdoors. Better performance is low light is further guaranteed thanks to a lens with a bright/fast maximum f/1.8 aperture.
One-Touch Connectivity with Smartphone or Tablet via NFC
With this latest generation model, convenience comes built in. Connect your smartphone or tablet computer to the V250 simply with one touch, thereby avoiding any irksome set up options. If your smartphone or tablet doesn’t have a NFC capability, there is the ability to still enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity with the use of a QR code.
Wi-Fi Enabled Baby Monitor Function
As well as providing beautiful High Definition video and memories you will forever treasure, the V250’s Wi-Fi connectivity means that it can be used as a remote baby monitor. A clever Push Notification function on the camcorder alerts a connected smartphone or tablet if a voice sensor detects the baby waking up or making a sound. Parents can even speak to the baby over the monitor. The camcorder can also be used in conjunction with a Panasonic VW-CRT1 pan and tilt cradle (sold separately). This also allows for filming remotely via smartphone and tablet, or filming ‘hands free’ at parties thanks to its auto tracking and Auto Focus (AF) mode/s.
28mm Wide-angle Recording
Squeeze those panoramic landscapes and group portraits into your frame with ease thanks to the V250’s 28mm widest lens setting, providing an extensive range of possibilities whether you’re shooting Full HD video or taking 10 megapixel still images (for images recorded with a 16:9 aspect ratio). Lens reach runs up the equivalent of 1740mm (in 35mm terms) at the telephoto end (maximum zoom).
Remote Shooting / Remote View
As with other models in the range, as well as the ability to use the device as a baby monitor, a free Panasonic Image App allows a smartphone or tablet to be used as a live view remote controller and for the camcorder to be operated from a distance via smartphone or tablet. Video and photos stored inside the camcorder can naturally also be viewed on phone or tablet, and uploaded to the social media site of your choice.Another use for the V250 is as a home monitor when you are out, for both monitoring and recording what is going on and even communicating with any pet left at home via your smartphone or tablet.
2.7-inch Wide Touch LCD
A wide touch screen LCD with 230,400-dot resolution both makes compositions easy to view and the V250 easy to operate. There is also the advantage of not having to take your eyes off the screen as you change the featured settings. Naturally the screen can be tilted to provide further framing options from a wide variety of compositional angles.
Power Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS)
The V250 comes equipped as standard with a POWER OIS function that minimises the effect of any blur arising from camera shake when shooting video handheld without the aid of a tripod. Whether you’re recording at maximum wideangle setting or with the camcorder set to maximum zoom, the results are consistently clear.

First off, it's light. Really really light. The build quality is OK but perhaps a little flimsy in places - probably due to the wish to keep it light. This is a budget camcorder so I'm not totally surprised to be honest.
Once you get past the first impressions you notice that it has very few buttons - this is good, it means this has a touchscreen and means no need to have to remember a tonne of controls - again in my view a good thing.
The interface itself is actually quite good, it takes a little getting used to and can be a bit fiddly on the relatively low-res screen but it should be enough for most.
The thing is, if you're buying this kind of camcorder you aren't expecting the best screen, or the best interface, what you want is good video at a budget. In my mind this camera does exactly what it's supposed to.
With 60x optical zoom and a further 30x digital zoom the camera is actually pretty capable. I tested this by taking some video at the British summertime concerts in Hyde Park. I was quite far back and had to zoom in a lot and the camera coped quite well. The only part I found it was totally lacking was image stabilization when zoomed it. It leaves a lot to be desired and isn't ideal
The thing is though, if you get a good stable shot, the quality at 1080p is very, very good. Really nothing to complain about and the audio is nice and crisp too. I found if we got too close to a speaker the audio would totally distort but I don't feel like this could necessarily be avoided.Read more ›
I was initially a sceptic on several fronts. I still have a camcorder ten times the size that I have difficulty in accepting is behind the times and I should let go of. I am only half in denial because I have in any case been using a camera for moving footage and was convincing myself that the one unit would do both jobs. Finally, I just didn't think something of this size and cost would achieve good results
The camera is supplied with one battery, which is charged in situ via a mains lead. It takes a couple of hours to achieve a full charge and this should allow between one and two hours of use depending on the length of each clip taken (lots of short pieces of film will drain more than a couple of longer pieces). I had considered getting a spare battery but decided there was no need because I found that a single charge each day was sufficient without limiting usage. One extra that you'll need to buy is an SD card. I used a 64GB class 10 card to maximise performance.
* Setting up:
The battery takes a couple of hours to charge and you can then set the camcorder up ready for use. A flap on the underside protects the SD card and remains accessible even when the camcorder is mounted on a tripod (well done Panasonic).
A short manual is supplied that'll take you through the basics and an included disc provides more fulsome directions (more than 200 pages to keep you busy).Read more ›
The Camcorder itself is light and compact. It sits well in the hand and you have easy access via the screen, I took it out in the garden and took some shots of flowers and scenery. The image quality is very good, it has nice clarity and depth in the surroundings. The still shots were decent, but don't expect it to replace your trusty DSLR. In dark areas (night shots) it does suffer and I do believe this camcorder is not suited well for very low light situations, even though it claims to be good under low light conditions. I guess I should not complain it sits under the budget category and therefore you cannot expect it to do everything well.
In good lighting this camera excels and the videos are excellent, look well on any screen. The wifi connectivity is a breeze and the NFC works with my Samsung tablet. The touch screen is responsive and the menus and adjustments are all well laid out. You can install the Panasonic image app and you can control it through your phone and view it remotely, I guess there are some benefits to this, however I do believe it is a bit of a gimmick. Most people tend to use there phone nowadays and to use your phone as a device to view/control another device just doesn't appeal to me.
The main factor is the recording of material and this camcorder does that very well.Read more ›
