Lumix DMC-LX100 - Designed to Inspire Creativity
The LX100 combines a Micro 4/3" sensor with a fast 24mm Leica DC Vario-Summilux lens and manual operation. It offers a level of creative control usually only found on more complex camera systems.
Improved dynamic range, improved image clarity
At the heart of the Lumix LX100 is a 12.8-megapixel Micro 4/3"MOS sensor - the same type found in more complex camera systems. With a surface area that's greater than many conventional compact cameras, the LX100 has improved low light performance, saturation and defocussed bokeh capture. The larger sensor and dedicated ratio switch let you quickly select different aspect ratios - including 16:9 for wide-angle composition.
Fast, Wide Leica Lens
With one of the widest lens in a large sensor camera, the LX100's 24-75mm Leica DC Vario-Summilux offers improved creative flexibility. The F1.7-2.8 range allows for improved low light capture and blur reduction. The unique optical design offers the same performance as a system camera lens, but with half the focal length. Nine diaphragm blades ensure smoother background defocus gradation.
Manual controls inspired by classic camera design
With an analogue control environment routed in established camera design, the LX100 has a dedicated aperture ring, focus ring, shutter speed and exposure compensation dial. There's a comfortable, instinctive and tactile familiarity to the feel of these controls. With the LX100, you're given greater freedom to make quick, flexible, creative decisions with even greater accuracy.
High definition LVF for precise details
The LX100 features a 2.764K high-resolution viewfinder. This allows you a greater degree of control when framing shots and integrates manual focus aids and autofocus feedback in an instinctive and responsive fashion. The viewfinder offers a 35mm equivalent magnification.
Instinctive focus controls
For shooting in different environments, the LX100 is equipped with a number of tools to help you capture high quality, rich imagery. Using micro contrast detection, focus peaking provides a real-time and intuitive graphic display of focal areas. MF Assist offers up to 10 times magnification for assured crispness, while Pinpoint AF lets you easily designate specific focal points in low light conditions.
Enjoy rich detail with 4K video
The LX100 shoots video at 4K. With this resolution, greater clarity, depth of detail and colour is captured at source, and allows for improved flexibility when editing. Techniques such as stabilisation and pans can be applied to footage without loss of quality when exporting to full HD. Videos shot at 30fps in 4K allows each individual frame to be extracted as an 8MP image, so you'll never miss a moment.
RAW: as rich as a negative
The LX100 can capture images in RAW format, preserving them with the minimum of processing. Colour and light information, as well as metadata, is taken directly from the Micro 4/3"MOS sensor, to allow for greater flexibility when reproducing and editing your images.
Experimenting with depth of field can add character an expression to your imagery. The LX100 offers a number of different settings - including analogue program mode (both shutter and aperture set to A), aperture and shutter priority, as well as full manual control.
Manual focus ring
Use focus to add emphasis to images. The manual focus ring is placed to allow you to easily make creative decisions. Manual assist lets you quickly gauge focal crispness by enlarging a section of your composition by up to 10x.
Shutter Speed dial
Add a dynamic quality to your images by experimenting with the shutter speed. The LX100 offers automatic mode (both shutter and aperture set to A), shutter priority as well as full manual control.
Exposure compensation dial
By using exposure control, you can make fine adjustments to accommodate unusual lighting conditions, lens filters and even to over or underexpose images intentionally for effect.
Live View Finder
The LX100 has a high definition Live View Finder with a resolution of 2.764k. This allows for precise composition in strong sunlight with 100% field of view. The refresh rate is 60fps, making it ideal for action photography.

Now where things get even worse is the warranty. Panasonic don't repair your broken camera, they make you send it to a company near Gatwick who have horrendous reviews on TrustPilot and mine took 5 days from them receiving it to even acknowledge they had it for them then to report to me that it arrived with marks on it. Well, it was immaculate when I sent it so that in itself is a major worry. When I queried this and told them I had evidence it was mint when it left me they then said, oh yes, you're quite right it is. They clearly do this so that when they damage your camera repairing it (the reviews claim this happens regularly) they can say it was damaged when they got it.
Once the repair company examined it (well over a week later) they confirm it has dust on sensor and that I have to pay £58.80 to have it cleaned and returned. So, what is the warranty for? If this was a DSLR then I understand that sensor cleaning is a normal process but this is a fixed lens camera that I have no access to the sensor. Having tried to resolve this with both Panasonic and Amazon I still have no camera unless I'm prepared to pay the money for it's return. The reviews for this company make dozens of claims of worse problems with the camera than when they sent it so essentially I'm just going to have to right off a £500 purchase.
NEVER would I touch a Panasonic camera again. Fortunately I've never had any issues with my Sony's, Fuji's or Canon's but when I got a sensor clean on a Sony A7 series camera recently it cost me nothing (even postage) and it was turned around in 2 working days. TERRIBLE service from Panasonic.
I know people will comment here that they have had no issues and the love the camera and I'm very pleased for you. But the fact remains, this is a wide spread problem and when (not if) it happens you'll go through the same pain.
Pictures: I didn't expect much because of the small sensor compared to any DSLR yet it does a good job compared to other small cameras.
Video: That's a strong point for this camera. I bought it for my youtube channel Cairogarden. It worked really well. Very good quality and also 4K. It's shame it doesn't have a mic output though. If it had one it would have been the perfect YouTube camera.
All in all, buy it if you want a little camera that takes good video but you'll have to record sound separately.
although it can be set to Fully Auto as a Point & Shoot Camera, there is so much more to this Camera.
Night shot auto works very well etc.
It is a shame that it does not come with an automatic lens cover (the cover that comes with the camera is removable) and the screen is fixed (not flip-flop) ...
Even so it's a great camera in a small body!
