Notes: Panasonic ALL Series Speakers with Qualcomm? AllPlay?. Panasonic ALL series speakers with AllPlay lets you easily configure music to enjoy in multiple rooms around the house from multiple digital music sources, all over an existing Wi-Fi network. You can also use your smartphone to enjoy subscription services and internet radio* wirelessly in any room of the house. In addition, the same songs can be simultaneously played over multiple speakers.
Because control is possible directly from the GUI (graphical user interface) of a music subscription service app or internet radio, AllPlay can be enjoyed with constantly updated screens and functions. Also, after listening to music on your smartphone while away, you can easily pick up a song where you left off when you return without changing the App.
The 4-speaker system comprises two speaker units: a tweeter and a woofer. It produces clear, dynamic sounds from bass to treble.LincsD-Amp (2nd generation). The clock jitter that occurs during digital amp processing is compensated to reproduce an acoustic waveform that is faithful to the original sound. By also compensating for distortion, including that of peripheral circuits, this provides purer sounds with greater depth. Two LSI circuits control the audio signal to each speaker to produce more jitter-free sound.
The use of a robust yet lightweight material creates a more responsive sound, giving clearer vocals more dynamic sound, and crisper dialogue. *The availability of subscription services and Internet radio may vary depending on the country.

I guess the speakers are pretty good but as so many people have already said, the software is terrible, my phone only supports the Panasonic app and this is useless, it basically picks and chooses what it wants to connect to, sometimes it will find my PC, sometimes it wont, it will never find my NAS drive and frequently crashes when trying to connect. The allplay jukebox (on my tablet) is slightly better but still wont find my NAS (and is not compatible with my phone).
I wanted a straightforward system to stream my music in 2 rooms (2 speakers) but after over a month of messing around, buying new networking gear, new NAS server etc, I still can't get it to reliably perform it's basic function.
- Understand the difference between wireless (connects to your home WiFi) and Bluetooth (connects to your mobile phone) speakers
- Check that your favourite music application or service is compatible
The same goes for similar products, such as those from Sonos. I knew what I was buying when I bought this, therefore knew what to expect. Hence my positive review.
The ALL3 is a wireless ("WiFi") speaker. It is not a Bluetooth speaker (like a Bose SoundLink). Panasonic do offer one that does both - the ALL2 - this one, however, does not. When I use the term 'wireless', I'm not simply referring to the fact that you don't need to connect a physical cable (which would be an accurate description of Bluetooth or wireless), I mean "WiFi".
That's crucial to note, because whilst Bluetooth acts just like a cabled connection; wireless does not. Think of Bluetooth as direct, a one-to-one connection between source (e.g. your phone) and the speaker. Whatever sound the source makes will be heard through a Bluetooth speaker. If you receive a notification on your phone or start watching a video on YouTube, you'll hear those noises through said speaker. The same cannot be said for a wireless one such as this ALL3, so don't be disappointed. That's not Panasonic's fault, that's just how it works.
A wireless speaker needs to be able to download (stream) the actual music file data over the network and/or internet. For example, I use Spotify, so when I launch the Spotify app on my phone and choose to chuck the music out through the wireless speaker, the speaker directly streams that song from Spotify via the internet. The sound isn't coming from my phone. The speaker isn't even connected to my phone as such, it's connected to the wireless router along with my phone. My phone doesn't even need to be switched on to continue listening - it effectively just becomes a remote control. I can choose to stream MP3s from the SD card on my phone - this requires the use of the AllPlay or other AllPlay/DNLA-compatible app. In this scenario, the speaker is streaming the music file data from my phone, via my wireless network, so both the speaker and the phone need a reliable WiFi connection whilst I'm listening. The ALL3 does have an auxiliary input for a 3.5mm jack, but that somewhat defeats the object of a wireless speaker.
The advantage of a wireless speaker is that you can have more than one and group them all together. I have two ALL3s, an ALL2 and an ALL1 throughout the house and it's brilliant. You could have a speaker in every room, all perfectly synchronised. You can also stream internet radio directly to them without needing to reach for your phone at all. Range is also considerably better than Bluetooth. A couple of the speakers in the Panasonic range (e.g. the ALL2) can 're-stream' analogue or Bluetooth sources over WiFi to another AllPlay speaker, if you so desire.
As other reviewers have said; Panasonic's 'Music Stream' app is naff. As a Spotify user, I only ever need to use the Panasonic app to group my speakers together and then I just use Spotify Connect or AllPlay Radio from Qualcomm.
The setup process is simple but, again as others have said, a level of tech-savvy-ness is handy. When you first plug one of these in and switch it on, the speaker itself acts like a WiFi hotspot. You must connect to that WiFi hotspot with your phone or laptop at which point you should automatically be prompted to 'sign in'. Upon signing in, you'll be asked to enter a name for your speaker and provide the details of your home wireless network. When you've done that, the speaker's own hotspot is disabled and your phone (or laptop) should automatically reconnect to the next available access point (which should be your home wireless, but do check!).
