What's gone wrong? Apart from the occasional flat battery (our own responsibility, after all) I have had one (1) crash/lockup occur in 4 years. That was after downloading and installing a freeware app that emulated a Star Trek Communicator. Since removing that toy there has not been a problem. Wish Windows worked half as well.<sigh>
Flat batteries can sneak up on you, since my Tungsten runs 10 days between re-charges in regular daily use, a fortnight with light use, and a week when I'm on a mission to solve things with MathPad. That's truly amazing.
OK, it's not a desktop PC, and it won't do much heavy lifting, but I use mine for pretty serious tasks - written over 140 different MathPad scripts covering electronics, engine, aircraft, boat and rotorcraft design. Complex ones can take nearly a minute to complete, but they do complete! Plus a superb freeware Astro-Navigation package, some neat games for the airport lounge, waiting room or train journey and much more. The media player and SD card slot let me keep a few gigs of MP3 files handy - so we have enough for a week away from home - with audio books as well as music, natch.
Usual calendar, address book, reminders etc that work so seamlessly with Linux (and Windows) that I hardly notice them. But I'd notice them if they went missing, oh yes!
Am I a fan? Yes, of course.
We also have a netbook, laptop, and a Tosh AC100 smartbook with Android 2.2. They work well. But the Palm is the one that fits in the pocket/bag and only needs recharging two or three times a month. Usually it recharges whilst doing a 'Synch' to the PC, since a full charge only takes around an hour. Seriously effective power management.
It is a reflection of the perceived value in these that they are now sold for 50% more than we paid for them in 2007. Might get us a spare one, just in case. Be lost without it.
Highly recommended for people who need this size and style of organiser/pocket pad/mp3 player/whatever.
Firstly I can sync data, such as Word Documents and my Calendar. When putting down appointments on calendar it's very effient and nicely displayed, so you can view your appointments easily. And you can view photos and videos. Connect to a phone by Bluetooth to send files or buy a Wifi SD card to connect to your router, for internet access to view emails on your PDA.
Navigation is superb and well thought out, nice to navigate not frustrating or annoying to get on and do the most simplest things. Touch screen is very sensitive and sturdy, very impressive. Very sturdy PDA not fragile as people have said in there reviews. I think they exspect every electronic products to survive being dropped by 30 feet high and then when it smashes, blame the manufacturers that it's fragile and breakable. Well look after it, treat it with respect like most things, and you get no problems.
The battery is very good but very important to charge the PDA properly to gain best performance. So charge for the first time, when it indicated been charged. Then charge it over night. Samething as charging your mobile, don't charge it over night for the first time you have problems with the batteries needing constant recharging and poor battery performance.
For a PDA that is 2 years old. It's curtainly got my vote and pretty advanced considering the PDA came out in 2005. Money well spent, well done China!
I did try to get assistant from Palm regarding this but unfortunately all they were interested in doing was passing the buck to mobipocket, one of the book readers on the E2. Saying this was the problem. If you can find your way around the tortuous Palm knowledge customer support, there is a small paragraph (I have only managed to find it once) that mutters something about a limit to the amount of files you can actually hold on the E2.
Up to this point I have found the E2 reliable, easy to work and just what was wanted. Unfortunately, the memory errors (despite having plenty of memory left) and the lack of assistance from Palm customer support pushes my 4 star rating down to 3 stars.
