About the Author
Sarah Ballantyne, Ph.D., earned her doctorate degree in medical biophysics at the age of 26. She spent the next four years doing research on innate immunity and inflammation before becoming a stay-at-home mom. After her second daughter was born, she began to experiment with the Paleo lifestyle. It had an amazing effect on her health. Over time, she healed herself of a long laundry list of physical complaints including irritable bowel syndrome, allergies, and the autoimmune disorder, Lichen Planus, an inflammatory skin condition. Inspired by her success, Dr. Ballantyne created the popular health blog www.ThePaleoMom.com and became co-host of a top-rated podcast, The Paleo View. Her passion for providing straightforward explanations of the science behind her diet and lifestyle recommendations for managing autoimmune disease, plus her love of food and cooking, form the foundations of The Paleo Approach.

It's expensive, but it really is worth it.
I've been following the Autoimmune Protocol for 8 weeks and am feeling the benefit already. This book helps with understanding how the AIP helps Autoimmune issues. Fab !
The list goes on and on.
A malfunctioning immune system could be what you need to fix.
I've just got my life back at 68! And do you know what was the main cause of all my problems? Eggs!
Who would have believed that? I thought it might be chicken.
I've lived on eggs all my life. Love 'em. Scrambled, boiled and in omelettes. If in doubt, go to work on an egg!
Thanks to Sarah's groundbreaking work I'm on the mend after many years of pain.
I'd done the rest. Taken out wheat(not the gluten for me but the proteins in the new strains - no longer the same as when I was a kid), nightshades - potatoes, tomatoes and peppers, hadn't drunk milk for thirty odd years. It caused my nose to run.(BCM7 protein in A1 milk is responsible).
And although my symptoms had improved I was still having to takes Naproxen regularly and Co codamol at night quite often to lessen pain.
Took out eggs from my diet and within a week my general fatigue had dissipated and pain and stiffness almost gone. It was like a miracle!
Two weeks on from that I feel thirty years younger. Fan-bloody-tastic.
Also, I've leant to balance the Omega 3 to 6 in my intake. So eating fresh Tuna and Salmon every week. Avoiding too many omega 6 sources.
I think chicken has a lot to answer for on many levels. And, as when I was a child, should be a treat, perhaps once a month, no more.
A BIG tnx to Sarah. x
My one and only negative is that my fogged up brain (autoimmue related) couldn't take in so much all at once, but then this is a reference book to go back to when you need to. I brought it on Kindle as I couldn't wait any longer for the paperback. Kindle is not keen to allow me to flip back and forth remembering where my last page was - so a paperback book would be much easier.
As time has gone on, i've been applying the relevant principles and found that my health has improved. Its surprising to find what regular every day foods gave me trouble and difference in my pain levels with them omitted from my diet.
If you wanted a cookery style book this isn't it, but Sarah's website is full of those already and her next book is due out which relates to this one. I have also discovered by this not being a cookery book, how to simply up my meat and veg and omit the troublesome grains, nightshades and eggs; I don't need new receipes I just needed to rebalance what was fine.
Already living gluten free lifestyle, this book for once and its rare, is truely gluten free! There is a mindfield of science around leaky gut and this was the most helpful aspect for me - a must read for any UK coeliac as its not promoted as a problem here.
Prepare yourself for zero food dates out, zero coffee dates and zero treats out...but hopefully lots of healing! What's scary is after you've read this you go out and walk around and see all the crap everyone's eating and realise that there is nothing at all on the street that any of us SHOULD be eating! I used to love eating out but I must say that I'm now paranoid about the quality of even expensive or seemingly 'healthy' restaurants...hopefully the more popular this movement becomes and the more we go back to basics and see food as medicine the options will HAVE TO CHANGE to meet the demand and the world will become a much healthier place to eat in for it! ...Fingers crossed! Will try to remember to review again once I've managed a month ;)
