After leaving me teetering on a cliff top at the end of book one, it was nice to get my hands on this book and get stuck in.

This is not the sort of book you can walk away from halfway through because if you do, it’s very difficult to pick it up again. Not because there’s anything wrong with the book, but because at times it is so heart-wrenchingly sad that if you were to walk away to breathe, it would be hard to go back to such sadness.

My heart broke for Isla but it also broke for Joshua. To see the one you love beaten to an unrecognisable pulp with horrendous injuries, barely breathing, would be like slicing a chunk out of your own heart.

If it was anyone else, they would have died and in fact Isla did pray for death to take her but her resolve is stronger than that. She survived. She is a survivor. She has someone who loves her unconditionally and will go to the ends of the earth to get her the justice she needs and the retribution she deserves.

Jack and John were the evilest of men. They are the scum of the earth for what they did. They need to pay the piper now.

I like the way Ms May writes so that you feel totally engulfed by the situation. I cared about Isla and Joshua. I wanted them to fight adversity and get their happy ever after. I wanted Isla to find peace and allow her to be loved by Joshua. I wanted Joshua to make everything ok for Isla. I like that Ms May doesn’t pad out her books with a load of descriptive fluff. She describes a scene well, leaving room for my imagination to enhance the pictures. If 10 words need to be said then this author will use 10 words and that is important to me as I think every word matters and I will read every word.

HASH(0x973a68a0) out of 5 stars Very Emotional Read 7 May 2015
By Carrie Renteria - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Pain and Truth was so emotional for me because it hit really close to home, Isla's struggle with cancer, her recovery from the attack, her emotional recovery, but throughout everything Joshua's unwavering support and love was always there he never left her side he stuck with her through everything no matter what. I really found this book hard to stick with at times not because it was hard to read or badly written but simply because it was so incredibly emotional. Please keep in mind the subject matter in this book is serious and some of it incredibly dark we are talking sexual assault, abuse, cancer, among other things. This is a great book to read just be sure to have a box of tissue with you because you will be crying as it will bring out all kinds of emotions! I love that Elaine May writes in such a way that you feel the connection to the characters in her books and you feel as if you are there with them going through their trials and tribulations with them. I also love the ending for this book I am so glad that Joshua and Isla got their Happily Ever After they both deserved that and so much more!

HASH(0x9737a3fc) out of 5 stars Elaine May is very talented 16 Jan. 2015

Pain and Truth is the second book in the “Truth Series”
I was so excited when the this book was released…The follow up to the first book “Lies and Truth”
In the first book you are walked thought a lot of very dark things that had happened to Isla, while you saw parts of the easy life Joshua was living. Now that they have each other is it going to work??
As you read Pain and Truth you see just how much things that happen in life have a way of affecting not only you but those around you. The Author Elaine May did such a wonderful job of putting so much emotion in to her books that just make you lose time as you read.
I really did enjoy how the grandparents were brought into this book; it helped with some of the heave things that were going on though out the story.
Real big upside is that “Pain and Truth” is the last book of the Series and it does not have a cliff hanger and I felt comfortable with how it ended.

HASH(0x977d7d2c) out of 5 stars Good emotional read 21 Jan. 2015
By CNGBookLover - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Let me start by saying this author is one who write with alot of emotion. Her books are real, and they require a certain taste. While this book is written very well and is a good story line, it is too much emotion per my personal preference. This is the main reason I chose 3/5 stars.

Now with that being said. It is a beautiful love story . What Joshie and Isla have to go through is no normal ride, and love conquers all. This author leaves no detail untold, and you will truly feel their love and pain.

This is a read I would recommend to those of you looking for a very dramatic/emotional read. It is one of a kind.

HASH(0x97a19eb8) out of 5 stars What a great sequel to Elaine May's Lies and Truth 24 Mar. 2015
By Tracy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
What a great sequel to Elaine May's Lies and Truth! With the cliff hanger ending of book #1 I'd found myself emotional invested in the characters, and was immediately reaching for book #2... Ms May did not disappoint with the sequel, yes an emotional roller coaster at time and it's a book that has made me good cry and ugly cry.

I would recommend this book to fans out there that believe Anything is Possible.

If 10 words need to be said then this author will use 10 words and that is important to me as I think every word matters and I will read every word. When there’s too much padding in a story, it slows down the story and you tend to start skim reading. There is no way on earth you will want to skim a single word of this book.

Absolutely brilliant story….at times it aint pretty…it’s gritty, it felt real, it felt plausible, it overwhelmed me with sadness but I’m glad I travelled on this journey with Isla and Joshua.
