HASH(0x9316db10) out of 5 stars Small, but excellent travel bag 24 Jun. 2010

I purchased this bag for my wife to take with her on a trip to Europe. She's frequently concerned about theft, pickpockets, etc., so the security features of this bag are a great relief to her. (We also are using the PacSafe CarrySafe 100 camera strap, and she has a PacSafe purse.) She has back issues so small and light are very important to her.

We have a large camera bag at home for all the various cameras and parts we own. This is NOT the bag you want if you need to carry the kitchen sink with you to cover all possibilities.

That said, this bag does nicely to carry our Nikon D90 with both the 18-55mm lens and our 70-300 lens. It's a little tight on the side where the other lens is, and the pacsafe camera strap is a minor hassle since it does not lay as flat as a regular cloth one would, but that's a small price to pay for peace of mind. Instead of the extra lens, a small(ish) flash could probably fit in the same space, perhaps better than the larger lens (I don't think a big diffuser will fit, however). There is plenty of room in the case's front pouch for an extra battery, cleaning cloth, extra memory cards, IR remote and perhaps a couple of filters. You won't want to carry the AC charger in this case, however. No need to haul that around Paris while shooting, anyway... leave it in the hotel.

The bag looks a lot like a purse (I'll call it a small messenger bag when I carry it LOL). It doesn't scream NIKON or CANON or SONY in bright "steal me!" letters. It's subtle and low-key... perfect for it's intended use.

Construction is excellent. The wire "lock" that locks the zippers seems effective, but don't count on it, and it's a pain to set up. Any thief who is really after it will get it anyway. And any bag that closes with a plastic zipper is completely vulnerable to any ballpoint pen anyway, and this is no exception. PacSafe should consider other options, frankly.

As a camera bag, this is simply a nice, simple, small camera bag. It has the added offer of good protection against pickpockets and casual opportunistic theft... but nothing will stop a determined thief. If you'd like the extra peace of mind, however, and a nice camera bag to boot, this bag is well worth the price.

HASH(0x9554efcc) out of 5 stars Great quality, but snug for my camera 8 Mar. 2012
By Johnson Y Ho - Published on
Like all Pacsafe products, this bag is built to last and of great quality. You can pull at the joints of the bag and there is no give. There are a lot of secret compartments in the bag and its very difficult to open from a pick pocket.

I have a Canon Rebel T3i with a 18-55 lens and this bag is very snug for the camera and lens. Since I bought the bag with the intention to carry my DSLR and point/shoot camera, the bag was just too small and I had to return it. If I had to carry the DSLR camera by itself, the bag would probably be okay. If you're looking to carry a larger DSLR and a few more accessories, look into the Pacsafe Camsafe 200. It's the exact same bag, but ~25% bigger.

Overall, this is a very good quality bag and looks like it will last a life time. However, it was just too small for what I needed.

I bought this bag for a 5 week trip to Italy and Greece; it performed well, the security features were well planned and worked well; naturally, if someone really wants your bag, they'll get it, but this bag worked well for me as a camera bag during the trip; adequate internal space, and pockets and dividers.

HASH(0x92ea1e10) out of 5 stars Didn't Use It As Planned 1 Jun. 2012
    By PierrefromBayRidge - Published on
So my wife and daughter thought I was nuts to be taking this heavy bag to Europe but I'd read so much about pickpockets and the like in Spain and Portugal because of their bad economy that I ignored them and bought the bag. On the one hand they were right. The bag is just too heavy. I ended up taking my small light shoulder bag and leaving the added lens (that I never really needed as most streets are tiny so who needs to zoom in on anything)and the bag at our lodgings. So am I sorry I bought this bag? A little but we were in several different cities (including renting an apt for a week) and in only one place was there a safe. Since I didn't want to lug around my 2 Kindles, extra lens, American cash and passports (I kept copies in my pocket) I locked all this gear up in the bag and secured it to a radiator pipe or whatever. I'm sure a real thief with tools and time could have gotten to my stuff but the maid or anyone else who just casually was checking things out would have had to give up. So even though the bag never left my room, it did give me peace of mind so I'm not sorry I bought it. And it does serve as a good bag back in the states to throw all my electronic stuff into when going somewhere in the car. But if you think you're going to feel comfortable carrying this thing around while walking through European cities, think again.

HASH(0x93e76234) out of 5 stars Broke in 5 days and poor customer service from Pacsafe 22 Jun. 2012
    By Philly - Published on
My bag arrived on May 2 and I took it and the camera strap I ordered at the same time on my trip to Italy, leaving on May 13. Five days later the connection between the strap and the bag broke. I had to use twist ties in order to carry my bag around for the remaining 7 days of my trip. This was inconvenient and aggravating and certainly did not provide the security that I expected from this bag.

Upon my return, I called Pacsafe Customer service and was told 2 disturbing things:

They have been having complaints about this same problem
They would not be able to send a replacement until 10-14 days after they received my return.

As I was leaving on another trip I was without a bag for that trip as well.

Today, June 22, I contacted Pacsafe again as I had not yet received any communication from them, even though my return was received on June 5. They informed me that the bags will not be available until Aug or Sept and that I could not get a refund as I did not buy the bag directly from them but through Amazon.

I am really frustrated by the lack of good customer support within Pacsafe. This bag should have been pulled and made unavailable as soon as multiple complaints were filed. In addition, I should have been notified as soon as my defective bag arrived, informing me that a replacement would not be available until end of summer and suggesting other bag options.

Further the company should reimburse me for the $13.39 cost of returning a bag that should not have been sold in the first place. Failure after 5 days of use is not something I should pay for.

I cannot understand how a company expects to stay in business when it does not follow sensible business practices and strong customer service. The internet has made it possible for customers to quickly spread the word about product quality and company policy. I would think that in this business climate, Pacsafe would be doing more to keep their reputation strong.

For the 5 days I used the bag I loved it. It was the perfect size for my equipment, was comfortable, had nice accessory storage and was attractive.

Bags are not available now until late summer as they are coming out with a new model to replace the defective one so DO NOT BUY THE OLD MODEL. IT IS DEFECTIVE. Also, Pacsafe's return policy may not apply unless you buy from them. Look into this before the purchasing.
