Set the Pace takes the friends to lovers trope to a whole new level while serving up a tense thriller within the narrative.

Jasper and Charlotte were best friends as children, a deep connection that would have transformed to more as they grew unfortunately, they were ripped apart by a devastating event surrounding Charlotte's fathers business. Forced to flee town and leave everything behind (including Jasper) under a black cloud, Charlotte never forgot about her best friend but didn't feel as if she were able to reach out to him over the years due to the scandal surrounding her family.

Jasper never recovered from losing his best friend, irrevocably altered in his attitude and guarded in his emotions, lead to a well deserved player reputation. I've got to be honest and say I absolutely despised Jasper's actions and attitude to his previous interlude, while I could appreciate his honesty it did nothing to endear him to me and I guess it had me projection my own insecurities of not being enough onto Charlotte. Although Jasper's connection to Charlotte did not diminish over space or time making you think Jasper realised Charlotte was his soul-mate all those years ago and nothing else would ever do.

When Charlotte embarks on a quest to clear her father's name and uncover the truth about the incident in her childhood, destiny ensures to cross her path with Jasper once again. The connection is still there even after all the time they have been apart but more than that is the sizzling chemistry between Jasper and Charlotte. Determined to keep Charlotte close this time and terrified of anything coming between them, Jasper undertakes his own investigation to aid Charlotte.

As soon as I read the first page of Set the Pace, I thought yep I'm gonna like this book.

It's starts off explaining what the book is based on. It's a nursery rhyme but you have to read the book to see ;-) I couldn't wait to get stuck in. Then (in true reader style haha) I turned to the second page and loved the little touch the author, Kim Karr has put in here-adds a personal touch to the book!

So the story is based around Jasper and Charlotte who are old buddies. Both characters are a little troubled in different ways. Charlotte isn't your usual fiery leading lady that you find in a lot of the romance/erotica novels you read nowadays, and I kinda liked it, it was refreshing and different! Jasper seems like your usual playboy type in the beginning but that soon changes the further you delve into the book.

I liked the way Kim inserted a flashback every now and then, giving you more substance to the characters’ background stories. This is a true love story, but it has a lot of other things going on in it making Jasper and Charlotte’s journey much more interesting!

I am a big fan of Kim’s style of writing having read several of her books. Set the Pace is easy to follow and flows really nicely allowing you to get lost in the characters and their story! There are a few steamy scenes along the way too ;-)

This is an intense book for sure! I know I'm one to go on about my emotions in my reviews, but honestly this book is jam packed full of them! At first you were sort of back and forth, not sure what was gonna happen, then in the end it all just blows up in your face and in true fantastical writer style we were left with a flipping big cliff hanger! Argh how I love and loathe a good cliff hanger!

All in all, I really enjoyed Set the Pace, good book and storyline with great characters! I am definitely looking forward to the release of Turn it Up!!

I should have learnt. I should have heeded the warning. I should have, but I didn't!

Kim Karr likes to give you shock and awe. She likes to add mystery. She throws you off the scent. Throws you a bone that turns out to be a chicken bone, fragile and easy to snap.

Shock and awe is the explosion and fire that marked the end of Laneworth motors. It also marked the end of the sweet, sweet childhood friendship of Jasper Jackson Storm and Charlie Lane. Re-united, will they be friends again, enemies, or could they be Charlotte and Jasper, all grown up?

The mystery of the woman in the red shoes. The mystery of bank statements. Motor parts. Failing brakes. Mud on shoes. Blue. Forget me nots.

Set The Pace is the kind of book that has you guessing at who dunnit, swooning at parts, blushing at others. I feel the need, the need for more speed.

"Truth and lies. Past, present, and future. I'd laid it out under the sun and the sky, and it turned out just the way I knew it would."

"There's a light inside me that I've never felt before - it's as if she's the brightness that's been sent to help me ease out of the darkness I've been in for far too long."

"All grown up, the broken city of Detroit hails him their shining star. And the man behind a new cutting-edge automobile is ready to turn this bankrupt town around."

Our 2 main characters Jasper and Charlotte have known each other for years, they were once best friends until one night she left when he most needed her. Jasper hasn't had an easy life, suffering poverty in a broken city (apart from Eminem and 8 Mile I knew nothing about Detroit, I know more now), loss and tragedy, he used all that tried to break him and turned it on it's butt to make him a better person, strong, ambitious, driven, he wants to be the best in everything and that looks like it's about to happen until... Charlotte.... Charlie has been away from Detroit for 20 years, now she's back and is looking for answers.

Set the Pace, was a perfect read, it had everything you want in a book, hot characters, lies, plot twist & turns, it had me racing through the pages. Kim yet again writes a great gripping read. How long until Turn it Up?
